Hello Everyone!

I started this thred to help in the construction of the town or city that the Core Coliseum is located in. I say help because I don't have authority over 'official' COCO stuff and because of what I learned from Caterane a little over a week ago.

There will be soon an entire town with many locations and filled with thousands of characters... LLMadCow is just working on the map to the city while I am working on the characters who inhabit it. Even Ony gets his room (and if you wish his whole family too)

I hope what we suggest and discuss in here will be adopted by those in charge.

What I would like to see this thread do:
- suggest things we would like to see in the COCO city
- compile what has been created already from fights and whatever else
- suggest and discuss names for various locations or characters
- discuss what the political, economic, social stituations of COCO city would be
- discuss city demographics
- discuss and suggest what the COCO world shoud be (Homebrew or placed in a standard setting like Greyhawke)
- Anything else that I did not think of that will add depth and flavor to the COCO.

Also, maybe Caterane and LLMadCow will be so kind to share their progress with us and adopt some of our ideas.

Well, one thing this world would certanly need is posters of Candy all over the place. After all, shes like the Britny Spears of the arena world.

Okay, self-glorification not exactly what I had in mind. Please, take this thread somewhat seriously.

I know I would like to see a temple or woodland shrine to Obad-hai for Ony to worship at.

Also, would like to see some bars named, find out if there are multiple bars and taverns or just one, if the gladiators have one tavern they favor over all the others, or maybe the gladiators have their bar? Any opinions or ideas about this?

This is just a quick point about character optimization.

CoCo started out as a thread on a Character optimization forum, where builds were posted for build optimization and strategic tactics. It has come a long way, while I love the RP aspects of this thread, there seems to be less emphasis lately with character optimization... that's all I'm going to say about that.

...

Cool idea, I feel that this city where the Coliseum is located has a diverse racial population. Many citizens (maybe even ones in governing positions) are of Monster races... In this city you can go down a strip of Tavern...

"Over here you have the many dwaven Taverns, favorite to most everyone, here is the only elf Tavern, good music but bad beer, oh and over there you have a half-feind tavern. Let me warn you first, they don't drink ale in there, if you know what I mean."

Conceptually, the city has many features, but is mostly vague in the descriptions. Caterane and I are logging the character information and going through prior posts and logging the world information that has been gathered. There are some specific Taverns that have been named. There are specific locations that have been referenced. Many people add various RP aspects of the world in their RP posts and the fights that are posted. The focus of any map I would draw is centered on the arena itself, as the town seems to have popped up around the Arena. There are some issues up for debate, and those will be discussed at a later time and date. Right now I continue logging the information that I have and I need to pick date to get together with Caterane online and go over some stuff. Right now I am defining things as: Part of the Arena, The City and Outside of the City. I personally envisioned the city as being divided into major sections and having different portions with different names; similar in nautre to how New York City has it's boroughs. Anyway, I am off for now, I guess I have been playing none, but still doing some here.

I will transfer my characters sooner or later, I just need some time all at once.

I always had the impression that the arena was inside a cave or somewhere underground. So the city would be located in the mountains.

PS: the arena is part of a hobby; an ideal place to be un-serious from time to time.;)

@LL - Thanks for sharing your vision of arenatown with us. If you want help determining various aspects or naming the city quarters we can bring brainstroming here. Maybe deciding how arenatown would divide itself? racial lines, economic standing, gladiators and non-gladiators, spellcasters and non-casters, or maybe all of these?

Name: Corpus Conundrum
Terrain: Mountains
Town Size: Large City or Metropolis, 12,001-25,001 or more
Power center: Magical, True Neutral
Mayor: Squarl Cobb, (Beholder)
Authority: Constable, Fayloarn Hucks Ftr20 (Human)
Guards: 250 town guards with 1200 malitia.
Racial Mix: Integrated, 30% or less Human including all other races even with monterous races.

The class of people that are most respected in all the city are the Gladiators since the entire city's economy is based on these "Sports Figures".

The "Strip" is a street where all the Taverns in the city are lined up down a large road. The largest and most popular Tavern is called, "The Tavern", where Gladiators drink for free (Dwarves drink for half price).

Not far from the Strip is the Coliseum where the fights take place. All around the coliseum are venders, shops, weaponsmiths, and artisans of all kinds. Outside of the circle of Vendors is a lower class of normal citizens, and outside of that circle is are the slums.

Farther away past the strip are the wealthy residential plots and the commerse buildings and the home of the Mayor.

This is just my idea about the CoCo city.

not to forget the several goblin camera crews who move their mighty balls of scrying around the city and always try to get a good view.
...houndreds of kilometers away, the goblin hordes with pay-tv sit on their couches and cheer/laugh their asses off to the bloody deaths of the gladiators, especially if they´re pixies. :D

I like the beholder mayor, a very cool idea.

The economy based on the gladiators and the arena is an important thing to keep in mind. So things like Blacksmiths, Bowmakers, Fletchers, Magic item crafters, temples, and taverns are in abundance. Endorsements and advertising would be rampant. But what would arenatown have less of then other things? I first thought of musicians and artists, but they could be employed for advertisements. The city might not have as many non-combat related craftsmen like carpenters depending on many houses or how much furniture is needed for the population.

Also, with the commerical focus of arenatown what would the government be like? I think it would be corrupt and easily influenced by the wealthy Arena owner(s) favoring those with property so the working class would largely be ignored. (For those famaliar with European History) Much like the Bourgeois Monarchy in France under Prime Minister Guizot

Sounds good.

There is a "Love/Hate" relationship between the commoners and the Gladiators. Some Gladiators hail from distant lands and so they would be considered foreigners to the city. Although they are not citizens, they receive a lot of respect and so the commoners are jealouse. At the same time, they are nearly worshiped by the commoners, as loyal fans are to thier favorite professional athletes.

Corruption is rampant. Besides having an increadably abundant supply of craftsmen and professionals of all types there is also a new profession the Wagersmith. Gambling is legal in this city and each bar or tavern has a resident Wagersmith just in case you want to make a bet at the last minute. There is even Wagersmith guild and city laws governing gambling.

Of course there is also an underground, figuratively and literally. Considering your beloved mayor is a Beholder, and eventhough there are plenty of evil races above ground, there is a whole covert culture below ground, that deal in the underground gambling and for every gambling law above ground there is a Bookie (Wagersmith above ground, no licence below ground) who will take bets wagered in children or curses or virgins or whatever.
