Hi all

it`s about time to find a good name for the city where the arena is located. I would like to see everyone who cares about roleplaying participate. Please don`t suggest "Arena town" or something similar because that`s really boring.

Choose your name well because once decided we will stick to it for all eternity. You see, that`s a difficult decision. I`ll add my proposals some days later.

Ok, post on

If it didn't involve trademark infringement, I would suggest Ebou Dar.

Those that get the reference would probably agree it would be perfect.

You forgot one Mike.

"The Town that Spike Built."

LOL

I think we have some pretty decent names already. Maybe if we can do this in multiple votes.

Like put 10 names on a poll...the top 5 vote-getters carry on to the next poll, then the top 3, the top 1 of those three would then be the chosen name.

Just a suggestion.

Ebou Dar... the city where everyone dules at the drop of a hat.... Still, they don't get paid for it. In our city, you do...

Since the arena has now become home to the "pitlords", I guess that makes the arena "the pit." With that in mind, I suggest the arena be named

PITTSBURGH!!!!!!!!

So, what do ya think?

Ahh, fellow WOT fans. Great to meet ya! Anyway, suggestions... Yah...
Rome(hey, they did invent the arena)
Daiken(you may like this. Translation: Big Sword)
Darkcrest
(another WOT) Shadar Logroth(shadows waiting)
I thought Ebou Dar was good. Too bad this isn't the Wheel of Time RPG. Dnd is much more fun tho.
And the ultimate (not too serious) suggestions:
Colosimville
Arenatown
Anyway, thats all for now

As much as I love Wheel of Time, lets not steal from another fantasy series otherwise I might have to use ones from the Shannara or Dragon Nimbus series.

I applaud MotherBast's reasoning for this choice (Also its the home of the greatest American football team, ever.), but it just seems wrong to me.

Seriously, I liked my suggestions of Klatnik and Runeagon, but I still think there are some better suggestions out there that could be original and have meaning for the city (like the agon in Runeagon is the Greek word for struggle). Rome would just be cool to imagine our gladiators fighting in.

I like it, but would there to be more suggestions first. There still is a lot people we haven't heard from.

Well, after much consideration, here are my initial thoughts on the city and the names within.....

The name for the city as a whole: Gladius

Now, going with the theme of burroughs or sections of the city having thier own names, here is what I also have come up with...

The 'Bad' side of town: Vilis
The 'Good' side of town: Kailo
The Marketplace(s): Upper and Lower Merx
The Wharf/Docks: Duken (Marina?)
The Magical Community: Arcadivus
Housing for the general populace: Kelartus
Housing for the nobility: Arkhein (Heights)

Also, I think there should be a small number of notable locales...

Moher Square - A nice open square where festivities and such occur...
Cats Ally - A gathering place for bards and poets to share stories and such...
Jindl Park - Think 'Central Park'...

And perhaps there is room for...

LL Lane
Snark Street
Tellish Court
Mag ???
Etc, etc.

There may be more to follow, it depends on inspiration...

The Tellish House.

Where the arena's most successfull Assassin, Kelek, tries to twist and weave his dirty little plots to corrupt the heirarchy and trains new, wannabe rogues and assassins.

Well, I know we have just called it the "Tavern" in the past, but you know there is an actual resturant and bar that the gladiators hang out at. It's even run by one of the original gladiators. Yep, I'm talking about:

The Fugue Plane - This local tavern hosts many of the colloseum gladiators. The proprietor, Rito Maya, named the establishment after his favorite vacation spot and home away from home. Indeed, the place blends the famous monk's three true loves: eating, drinking, and the afterlife. Several arena combatants are known to frequent the Fugue Plane, including Laness DeVille, Donkey, Aiki Auk, and Irlina's entire stable of gladiators. The Harvester twins are known to reside in one of the spacious suites upstairs, though they rarely make appearances in the tavern itself. For those who wish to visit the Fugue Plane, just stop and ask any of Jindl's gladiators, and they'll be happy to, uh, give you directions ...

Yes, fun commentary, but I really want to know what you think of the names and MY thoughts on the idea. I do think that props can be given to many of the Gladiators.

If you want the The Fugue Plane to be an actual, bar, let me know. There is already the Diving Falcon and the Rusty Nail.

I like the name Gladius. It fits well being the traditional short sword of Roman gladiator.

The districts are cool. But where is the orderly and choatic and neutral parts of town?

The Fugue Plane tavern is a neat idea.

*mumble*
Ony Ampitheatre... Yes, I like that idea...
*mumble*
Worlen Wharf... another good suggestion.. yes...

I think it'd be wierd to name the biggest city in the world after a sword. (Gladius) I just don't like mixxing fantasy and real life.

Speaking of which, we should name the World also.
I want to name my character after it.

Legendary in it's own right...

A place where warriors live and die by the sword and spell....

The Elves call it XXXXX, or Endless Battle as it is known in their tongue....

The Dwarves call it XXXX, or Moradins Forge as it is known in their tongue....

[Follow up with various other racially themed names]

In the common tongue it is simply known as...

GLADIUS
