Summer COCO Writing Contest!

In the city of Gladius, there are dozens of exciting events happening daily, so why not play the bard and eulogize about
the best character in the world... Your own!

Rules:
-Write a creative/cool/intriguing tale about a COCO character. The theme is open (mystery, adventure, action, horror) so have fun!
-The story can be about anything (keep it appropriate please!).
-If your story is about, or includes, another COCO character that is not your own, then make sure you have the permission of the owner to use their creative property.
-Extra consideration will be awarded to those who write within "real-world" locales across the world of Gladius (see World Map).
-There is no maximum or minimum length, but surely your incredible tale is longer than a single paragraph. If your tale is longer than one post, please link your story pieces to each other in the submission thread (see below).

Prizes:
The winner nets a number of credits based on the number of entries (details forthcoming). Winning submissions will be saved in the Tales of Gladius

Judging:
There will be a poll set up for the entire COCO to vote for their favorite tales. The poll is public, but in order for your vote to count, you must have an active character in the COCO, and you must write a short review on the stories, more-or-less explaining why you choose as you did (not just "I liked it"). Remember, constructive criticism is the aim, and will only help our applicants in the future!

Submission:
Submit right here! Reserve a post if need be.

Deadline:
The end of the day on June 31 is the final date to submit material. We know you all have lives, but were hoping that 6 weeks will be enough time.

The former adventurer Crowtongue had decided to retire on his old age to the city of cliffwatch at the express invitation of the king Edmund BronceShield with whom he had shared many adventures in their younger days.

Numerous times he had been called into the defense of the city which infuriated the church of light the second largest military force in the city.

In the year of the waning moon the army of StormPeak a neighboring country advanced on the city wishing to have the rich lands on it; the defenders fought bravely but started to lose ground with time the royal advisor went to the wizard demanding effective solutions.

"Aren't you a necromancer why don’t you make undead to fight for us!" the advisor demanded; Crowtongue complied and taking gems from the royal treasury began to foster the army with an undead regiment of skeletons made of the bodies of
The fallen attackers.

This helped create a stalemate as the advancing army halted; many of his fighters feared becoming one of the undead who now fought against them.

The church of light under the command of the Dawnson convinced that their leader was corrupted due to using undead went in disguise to parlay with the enemy
At his return they switched sides and in the middle of the night tried to seize the necromancer in a terrible battle as their guards opened the gates of the city to allow the invaders to overrun the sleeping defenders.

Most of the royal bloodline was put to the sword that same night, Crowtongue had managed to escape with a royal heir into the night.

The following Morning the church of light swore fealty to their new king in a public ceremony promising an end to the war which the weary population accepted tired of fighting they would renounce many things to be able to live at peace
again

Crowtongue would not have it and even if the city prospered under their new rule he would see the former rulers restored.

A danger to the church of light and the new peace of the land Crowtongue was hunted by the church of light that grew more and more powerful thanks to their new allies.

Time and time again his plots to restore the royal heir to power were thwarted by the church of light that never ceased to hunt him employing mercenaries with promises of gold and favor; most of these unfortunate souls sometimes returned as undead striking the government and church of light buildings

Time was running out for Crowtongue and he could not die before restoring the rightful bloodline to the throne.
And so he performed the ritual that granted him eternal life as a lich.

The transformation affected him more than he thought and his methods to try to restore the heir became more and crueler; from torturing his prisoners from information to abducting the young daughters of those
In power.
