Long story short, I need individual backgrounds for 10 20-25th level sor/wiz's.

Grimdolf is a 20 Cleric/15 Ranger/20 Rogue/20 Sorcerer who lives in a Citadel in Nessus, the 9th level of Baator (Same as Asmodeus, for those who don't know). He's completely insane, and is almost constantly working on some new death machine (The Citadel is guarded by cannons that deal 10d6 bludgeoning & 10d6 sonic on successful hits) or new deadly creatures (Currently, the escaped Morganth can deal 2d6+68 in damage from a single attack). He even keeps the Tarrasque in the basement of the Citadel near a normally-closed portal to the Material Plane (You guessed it, this is it's lair), and he created the Tarrasque from his own daughter (Mother missing). In the start, he was a brilliant inventor, but was cast out of his village when he created an interplanar gate. He spent the next few years raiding magic schools and libraries, and then started killing anyone who opposed him (Grimdolf the Inconquerable Horror). He finally built his interplanar gate again, but was sucked in and spent the time up to about 70 years ago running from Pit Fiends etc., then he found an area that they never seemed to go, and built his Citadel there, which has to this day never been breached by any force.

A myriad of Grimdolf questions answered here (http://www.dndresources.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1464)

1st - Meredith was everything that a pixie could hope to be. Smart, pretty, and helpful. One day she came across an injured man in her grove. This man wore full plate armor and had a greatsword, so Meredith felt uneasy. But, he had a symbol of Heironeous around his neck, so she proceeded to bring him healing herbs and potions, and brought the rest of the grove to help. When the man was finally at full strength he said that he wished to thank her for her show of goodness, and proceeded slaughter all of the fey in the grove. By some miracle she had survived.
She swore that she would never again be helpful, and that if that was a champion of a great human god of good, then she knew that there was much wrong with the humans. From that day forward she directed her studies towards the decimation of humankind. It took her years to develop her definitive style. She lures humans into her grove, promising them the rejuvenating water that springs from her pool. This is when the trap is set, and while they are standing in the middle of the pool, waist deep in water and relatively helpless, she causes her hidden weapons to attack.
Years went by, and rumour spread of an evil being in the woods that killed anyone who entered. And eventually it came to be known that there was a powerful artifact that was being protected by said creature. None of this was true, and Meredith killed anyone who came seeking the artifact…till one day.
One day when Grimdolf came seeking the object. By the time that the legend had gotten to him, it was said that it was an artifact of true evil and corruption, that could kill any mortal and would corrupt any immortal. So he came to seek the item for his own. She tried the same trick on Grimdolf. Only this time things didn’t go as planned. The protective spells that he weaves around himself deflected almost all of the blades, leaving him with only minor injuries. He laughed, and thought that it was a great joke.
He then set his magic upon her, nailing her helpless to a tree, and preceded to have a conversation with her. Upon finding her hatred for humanity he freed her, hugged her, and offered her a position as a Maester, so that she would help him destroy the material plane. She reluctantly agreed, seeing as how she really only wants to kill humans, but has not had a problem with killing anyone that now enters her forest.
Grimdolf now has given Meredith access to his personal library, and taught her about dark and evil magic, which she is now an expert on. She has even learned to show that in her weaponry, making all of her swords drain life out of those that it strikes. Also, she still likes to use her innocence as a pixie to get people to enter a pool that she keeps in any place that she resides. She likes to see how much the people will take off before they go through her "ritual.” And she will say that the previous person left through the second door in the room, which is a hallucinatory hallway that is actually a pit that leads down to a boiler room where she strips then burns the bodies.

2nd - Muuso Haltine is a leShay. He is one of the oldest leShay in existence. Most leShay will tell you that some great catastrophe befell reality before this reality came into existence. The catastrophe wiped out much of the leShay race, and basically restarted time. Muuso Haltine was there when that catastrophe happened, and though he won’t tell anyone what happened, he does know. He knows because he was one of the ones that set it into motion. He and his brothers felt that their society had become too soft, and that they lacked the will to assert themselves into their proper place. He has watched for several millennia to see what has happened with the new reality. And he believes that it is time to start again, for the races that exist now are far weaker than the leShay were, and their arrogance and weakness go far beyond that of the leShay.

He spent time travelling the outer planes, to pass the time, and look for a fitting way to reset reality; this is when he met Grimdolf. He came upon Grimdolf’s tower, and marvelled at its grotesque absurdity, a mere mortal to have the arrogance to build a tower in Hell. Grimdolf struck him as the perfect medium through which to exact his catastrophe. He knows himself to be more powerful that Grimdolf, and does not fear any reprisal from him. He had made Grimdolf believe that his power is not as great as Grimdolf’s, but that he could easily be an asset. And since has worked to aid in Grimdolf’s place, knowing that when the time is right, his own plans will come to fruition as well.

3rd - Gith is a very well known creature. Her history is something that most know, well, up to a point. Once Gith was contracted to serve Tiamat, she nearly disappeared from existence. She has been serving Tiamat as a personal protector and general since that time. She is the only non-dragon the Tiamat is willing to give any praise, or responsibility to.
Tiamat is a God, and as a God has very little to fear. So she has to find ways to pass the time. Currently she is engaged in a bet with Bahamut. Seeing as money is of no consequence (and she is not willing to give any up), they decided to bet influence. There is a sect of dragons that do not fall under the category of good or evil dragons, and so there has been a dispute over who should have influence over them. The bet was set that the strength of their current influence would determine who would get to expand their influence.
Whoever could have their sect of mortal followers topple the opposing sect of mortal followers would prove their influence. And no dragons may interfere.
With that stipulation, Tiamat formed a plan to have Gith interfere…but how? It was not long before she met Grimdolf. He was looking for a place to set up shop, and wanted passage to the lower levels of Hell. He also boasted of his strength, and the strength of his Maesters. She decided that they should challenge, and if she was to win that then he would have to swear fealty to her, and if he won, then he could pass and take one of her followers.
She purposely lost the challenge, and when Gith moved to her side to punish Grimdolf for his treachery (she believed him to have cheated) he chose her as his secondary prize. Gith was outraged, and would not, but Tiamat enforced the decision. Later, Tiamat let Gith know what was happening, and that should she destroy the material plane, than she, being a non-dragon disciple of Tiamat, would have won the bet for Tiamat. Tiamat also said that should she win the bet this way, that Gith could return to her previous life amongst her people, as long as she still swore loyalty to Tiamat.

4th - Hildur was a girl who grew up not being praised for anything. She was originally raised in a church of Heironeous, but was thrown out because of the cruelty that she showed to those weaker than herself. She spent the next few years living on the streets. She found that she was quite adept at finding out who had money and who didn't. One day when she was tring to pick a mark a wandering bard seized her and laughed at her for being so foolish. He offered to be her master if the girl was willing to be a faithful apprentice. His name was Delnir, an elf. She traveled with Delnir for three years. Learning a little about how to make a living as a care free bard, though Delnir was never too kind, and shared little of what they got. "You are the stupid apprentice, and am the master."
One day while Hildur and Delnir wre traveling, they recieved a message from Delnir's sister, Kyeel. She was in a bad situation and it said that she was "calling in his debt." So they returned to Delnir's hometown and proceeded to help his sister smooth over the investigations of a local law enforcement. Upon meeting Kyeel she falls madly in love. When she spends a few days with her, hearing about her clerical studies and her God, Nerull, she can't contain himself. She asks Delnir if she can be released from his apprenticeship contract, and Delnir refuses. "Over my dead body" were his exact words. That night Hildur cuts Delnir's throat while he slept. And then forged a note from Delnir that stated that he had to leave, but he couldn't take his apprentice, Hildur, along. He asked if Kyeel would watch over his apprentice, as she has taken a shine to her.
Hildur was now in the service of Kyeel, and enjoying her training as a cleric of Nerull. She learned quick, and showed unmatched cruelty. She did his all to show Kyeel how devout she was, and to win her heart. But she refused to show her any love, though she was much kinder than Delnir had been. During her 6th year of her apprenticeship with her, though she was starting to become as strong as she was, she was given a mission to retrieve a powerful artifact for Nerull. As they neared the end of this mission and were about to procure the artifact, Grimdolf appeared. He wanted to claim the object as a "trinket" to use in his studies. He disinitegrated Kyeel, and locked her soul into the artifact. Then in the fight he left Hildur bloodied and left her for dead. Hildur made it out of the skirmish alive, though she will always bear the scars on her right arm.
After she was healthy enough she started training again. Redoubling her efforts, and putting more focus on the street smarts that kept her alive as a child. She began to focus her efforts on stealth and trickery. She then made her way to the 9th layer of hell, where she worked her way into Grimdolf's tower, and tried her best to kill Grimdolf. She failed miserably, but Grimdolf was amused. He liked the nerve that he showed, and offered her a position as a Maester. Hildur agreed on the grounds that should she ever defeat Grimdolf, she would be able to regain Kyeel's soul. Grimdolf laughed and then happily accepted.
Now she likes to toy with his prey, showing more cruelty than ever. Her favorite trick is to use her great power of intuition (sense motive) to predict what a person is thinking and feeling, and then recite this to them in order to cause fear. She tries to kill Grimdolf whenever she is near enough to, and many times will kill of some of Grimdolf's guards to lure him out into the open.

Secretly she admires Grimdolf, though she will say openly that she detests Grimdolf. Many of the other Maesters dislike her, because they mostly side with Grimdolf, and woudn't dare say that they oppose him.
5th - Gorb was born to the leader of his tribe. He was groomed to lead from the very beginning. At that time none knew that one day he would have great prowess with arcane powers. So he was trained to be a fierce warrior, and thus when his powers matured with him, they matured in a way that increased his combat abilities.
When Gorb came of age, he took the leadership from his father bay slaying him. It was a day that changed the fate of his tribe forever. Gorb’s lust for power was insatiable. He is very intelligent, and knew that he would have to gain footholds, before he could make great leaps. So he started with enslaving small groups of Orcs and goblinoids, and then he took over entire Orc, goblin, and kobold nations. He then moved to take on tribes of other giants, using his new subjects to their utmost potential. He conquered many other tribes, forming a nation of monsters. And during it all, he led in the forefront. Taking out more enemies on his own than entire battalions.
His nation continued to grow until he filled a continent on the material plane…but he could go no further. He was never able to set up a way to stage a competent invasion on the other continents.
One day, he went to fight back a small band of human adventurers that were trying to make a name for themselves. On his return trip he ran across a strange sight, a man that was destroying his minions as if he were pushing his way through grass. He was astounded. Never before had he seen such battle prowess. He wanted to know how to obtain such power. Grimdolf said that his power is easily obtainable; first he would have to kill those around him, which Gorb did mercilessly. Grimdolf taught Gorb a few secrets, nothing spectacular, but never the less Gorb was entranced. He knew that this was how he would be able to take over the world, by obtaining Grimdolf’s power.
6th - Kali Saeka is the wife of Grimdolf. Not long after he was forced to leave his hometown, he was travelling through the underdark. He mistakenly destroyed a group of drow. The only survivor was a young child. This was before his budding insanity had consumed him, so he had mind enough to want to take care of the young creature. She grew up in his tutelage, and became as evil as he was, in some ways even more so. But she always had a strong tie to nature. As he wished more and more to take over the material plane, she felt that it was going to be her job to help him re-create the material plane in his design. Eventually she felt that not only would she re create the landscape, but it would be their children that would re-populate the plane.
She got him to consent to their marriage, though he never really had the presence of mind to only keep to their marriage, believing that marriage was not a bond in monogamy, but instead it was a bond that would hold two people together forever. So he took another wife. This angered Kali. She pushed him to eventually use his experiments on his new wife, and the daughter that they had conceived. So that again, she alone was the only one that was his suitor. After this, she became much sterner in nature. Any time that she felt that some woman was getting to close to Grimdolf, she would deal with them, brutally, and painfully.
She is completely obsessed with him completing his goal, and will do anything for him.

Her main equipment is her armor. She has two sets of full plate that she wears depending on the occasion. One is made from the scales of an old worm prismatic dragon. It was a gift from Grimdolf, to calm her after a dispute. The other is a set of full plate made from scales from the Tarrasque. This one is a trophy from her conquering her competitors of her love.

7th - Nelmnar was enthralled by the stories of the Elder Brains growing up. He knew that one day he would have the strength to have his personality take over one of the elder brains, or better yet, would become one in his own right. When he was old enough he was selected as a guard for an Elder Brain. Not long after working there, he found out the horrifying truth about there not being any immortality in joining with an Elder Brain. This infuriated him. He felt betrayed, and so turned to betray those that betrayed him. He took up the study of the arcane arts in secret. One day when he felt he was strong enough, he unleashed a spell in the chamber of the Elder Brain, and destroyed it.
Knowing that he was now an outcast, he left and studied how he would make himself into an immortal. This is when he came across a tomb describing lichdom. Necromancy had always held a high place in his mind. He had revered the power that necromancy had to offer, and how easily it could destroy. He loved the irony that the same power that destroyed the immortal Elder Brain would make him immortal. Ever since becoming an Alhoon he has studied the arcane arts of necromancy, and dreamed of the day that he could destroy all the Elder Brains and Brain-Gods. He even locked himself away in a tomb beneath the earth, so that his studies could go uninterrupted.
After around 1500 years, his tomb was opened from the outside. At first he was infuriated by the intrusion, but then he decided that this might be a chance to find out what has been going on. The man that he met that day seemed like he was out of his mind, and was looking for this tomb to find the arcane secrets that it held. Nelmnar invited him in to speak about these secrets, figuring that if he could not get enough information from this man, and then he would just eat his brain, reseal the tomb, and continue his studies.
After a straight week of talking, he was amazed by this stranger, whose name he had learned to be Grimdolf. He even came to respect him as a master of arcane arts. From that day he desired to work with Grimdolf to advance his studies, and both of their plans. He views Grimdolf as his equal, even though he has taken up the title of a Maester of Grimdolf, he would just as easily say that Grimdolf has taken up the title of Maester of Nelmnar.

8th - Morkidum believes himself to be the most powerful sorcerer in the multiverse. Having Heard of Grimdolf's prowess with spells, he sought Grimdolf out and challenged him to a mage's duel. He challenged Grimdolf to come to his home (which is a personal demiplane, attached to Dis [the second layer of Hell], and it looks like it's a part of Dis, only magic is effectively maximized, empowered, and widened) to take part in the challenge. Grimdolf not being one to turn down to prove himself to be superior accepted.
During the challenge, Morkidum continued to counter every spell that was thrown at him. And then purposely allowed some to hit him so that they would sizzle on his spell resistance. He began to laugh and taunt Grimdolf, for he knew that Grimdolf could not hurt him, and he had not even started an offense. Finally he turned his back to Grimdolf, and said that if Grimdolf could not hurt him as such, then Grimdolf did not deserve to be called a Sorcerer. Grimdolf not being a complete fool knew what to do. He pulled two-dozen holy arrows from a sack and used telekinesis to pepper the Rakshasa's back. Morkidum was furious, and it was Grimdolf that was laughing now.
Morkidum barely had the strength to stay conscious, so a reprisal was out of the question. He cursed Grimdolf for cheating, and not playing by the rules. He said that the win did not belong to Grimdolf, and that if they were to duel again then Grimdolf would certainly kneel before him. Grimdolf refused and taunted him.
Now he works as a Maester so that he can take the initiative when the time comes and lay waste to the material plane before Grimdolf. So that he can hold that above his head, and challenge him to another duel. This will likely never happen, as he suffers constantly from a magic bound to Grimdolf, which brings him great pain if he ever disobeys him. Grimdolf is sometimes generous, but he’s never a buffoon.

9th - Grimdolf has had only one daughter in his lifetime and due to his wife Kali continues to have distaste for siring children. One way that he has dealt with this is the use of polymorph to turn himself into someone else. in this case he is not having an extramarital sexual encounter, it's someone else (the logic of a crazy man).
Thus were the beginnings of Cora Tealeaf. A halfling born from a night of passion between her mother and the polymorphed Grimdolf. She was a bright young halfling, and proved to be a very promising sorceress. Having no history of sorceror's blood running in her mother's side of the family she decided that it must have come from her father. And so she decides to seek him out.
After searching for a while she came into dire straights and got involved with a local organized crime family, the Castrados. She figured that they would have the means to find out information on him based on the little that her mother knew. She quickly took to the work, and showed great aptitude, become almost invaluable to the family. The family was one of the few groups in the world that specialized in shadow manipulations, and they trained her as such, to make her an even deadlier opponent to deal with.
After about 3 years the family came upon some information about a crazy sorcerer that would polymorph himself and seduce women, and that he had been seen in the area around 23 years before (Cora was 22 at the time). They decided not to tell Cora because they did not want to lose such a valuable agent. Well, while at the bar one of the family's personal guards got very drunk, and accidentally told this information to Cora. She wasn't happy, killing the guard with barely a motion.
She approached the head of the family while he was at dinner with the rest of his immediate family. She confronted him about this, and he told her that if she knew then she would want to leave. And nobody leaves the family. And furthermore that it would be over his dead body that she would leave, because of how valuable she is. At that the Family Head's youngest daughter (15) disintegrated, and Cora uttered the words "That can be arranged."
So after leaving the family, she spent 3 years finding the whereabouts of her long lost father, leaving many bodies in her wake. When she finally caught up with him, she also met his wife Kali, and quickly understood that she shouldn't mention anything about being his daughter. She told him that she was a great believer in his cause and wished to serve him. She is now one of his most loyal Maesters (second only to Kali).

10th - Ulfgar was raised in a typical dwarven family, and at a young age, he was accepted to study as a cleric of Moradin. As a child he took to this life happily, since it was the stories of the great battles of the past, and the great deeds of the god Moradin that enthralled him as a young boy. Ulfgar was never the brightest boy though, he was constantly harassed about not doing well in his schooling, and he was not incredibly coordinated either. He started to make up a friend that lived in the small places in his house. Once he became a little older, his parents felt that the clergy may not be his calling, as he was starting to blame accidents around the house on his little friend, which was a friend that the Moradin had sent him. So, they sent him off to be trained with the Dwarven Defenders, another honourable dwarven tradition that he could join. His training was rigorous, and he progressed quickly.
But, he always came back to his love of the clergy, and their grand stories. And then he went to adventure into the world. He came across arcane magic, and its grand powers. His imaginary friend told him that he should study this magic, so that he could grow even stronger, and have more friends. He found, strangely enough, that he had a knack for sorcery. But, as he explored his sorcery, he began to lose his connection to Moradin. His imaginary friend eventually showed himself one day. It was an Imp, though Ulfgar had never seen a creature like it, or heard of such a creature. His name was Kavlax, and he said that if Ulfgar wished, he would become Ulfgar’s familiar and help guide him to have more fun and make more friends.
From then Kavlax regaled Ulfgar with stories of Asmodeus and the great powers of the archfiends. He liked these stories even more than the ones that he grew up with about Moradin. Kavlax told Ulfgar that if he were to lay his praise to Asmodeus rather than Moradin that his old powers would return to him, along with new better powers, and that he could make a whole new set of friends of the devils. So he now set upon this path, learning Thaumaturgy, to call upon new devils in the name of Asmodeus. He even found a cohort that was willing to follow him, a Kyton fighter by the name of Cronos. When he first met Cronos, Cronos told him a story about another powerful man who lived in hell, Grimdolf. Hearing that there was someone who had stories that rivalled the ones of the gods and archdevils, Ulfgar set out to meet this man. He found a way to commune with him, since he had a direct connection to hell, and surprised Grimdolf with the communication. Grimdolf, after being forced to listen to Ulfgar’s life story (he couldn’t figure out how to dispel it, and Ulfgar just continued talking) realized that Ulfgar was quite powerful, and worth “employing.”
Grimdolf shared a few of his tales, and then told Ulfgar that he too may have great tales told about him one day if he were to work with Grimdolf. With his, his spirits rose, he got to contact the source of great stories, got offered to help him, and then got the opportunity to have great stories told about him.

Alabaster Bronislav - Alabaster was the son of a noble family. His father was a Paladin of great renown. When he was old enough, his father put him through monastic training. It was his destiny to become a paladin like his father. His mother was also well known, she was a well established wizard, who had adventured with his father. She instructed him on the basics of Wizardry. It was not long till he was well enough versed in the skills of the monastic order and his father took him in as a squire and taught him the skills of a paladin. He soon went off and joined an adventuring party, looking to make his own name. It was at this time that he met a man by the name of Morgan Shallin. Morgan was a sorcerer, and a quite powerful one at that. They travelled together for many years, and each passing year Morgan revealed more and more of his darker side, including his interest in necromancy. At first Alabaster shunned this, feeling that it was unnatural, but he eventually lost out when he saw its effectiveness. He even started to dabble in it himself. Not long after he realized that as he studied and used Necromancy, his other powers were becoming limited. It was not until he aided Morgan in the use of necromancy to destroy an innocent village, he thought that they were just going to smoke out some bandits, that he realized that his God had forsaken him, and that he had forsaken his God. Morgan laughed, knowing that this would happen sooner or later, and revelling in the experience of breaking a noble paladin. In a fit of rage he killed Morgan, and that was when he knew that he could never go back. He knew that necromancy had become a part of who he was, and he liked that part. From then on he wanted chaos to follow in his footsteps.

Uncle Chortle - #Not yet written#

Krystian - Once a valiant young hunter of the undead, Krystian set out from his temple home to eradicate the evil of undeath from the world. In his great travels, he heard numerous tales of a powerful Lich living in a guarded tomb set in the rock under some extremely old castle ruins that pre-date the historical records. Intrigued, he set out to find this Lich and destroy him, gaining access to the tomb with remarkable luck and determination. Upon entering, he was almost immediately confronted by Nelmnar, a mind flayer Lich, who almost immediately eradicated him instead. Seeing possible use as an assistant in the young boy, Nelmnar revived him as a mummified version of his former self. He is a tragic holy warrior, now bound to serve evil. However, when Nelmnar decided to join the ranks of Grimdolf Fanelia in the bowels of Hell, he discarded Krystian and left him to guard the mostly empty rooms of the tomb, where he waits for aeons, waiting for the day he might be released from service, the day the world ends.

That d00d sounds... well he sounds insane.

If he is that powerfull he could probably take out a minor god or two... who knows what he could do then, he would be almost unstoppable.

A few questions though.

If he is that epic, why hasnt he created his own plane of existance yet? Im sure if he is that powerfull (and old) and he kept working on it, it would be pretty damn big, not just one of those small 180ft ones.

This guy has the big fella in his basement, why isnt he letting it run amuck on the lower planes of hell and let the beast crush somebody who deserves it for once.

Whats his plans for this tower? Is he going to take over all of hell or what?

In his narrow-minded devotion to his dream of conquering the Material Plane, he has no particular need for a demiplane of his own. Any forseeable use would be as another place for him to conquer, but he'd have to fill it first himself

A sidenote, he is over 900 years old, but is still as youthful as when he was 23. He has an entire layer of the Citadel extremely heavily armored and defended full of clones, and every decade or so he commits seppukku by having the interior mounted cannons aim at him, then returning in one of the clones, so he can live almost perpetually without aging. In his mind at least, he's achieved 'immortality by design'

This guy has the big fella in his basement, why isnt he letting it run amuck on the lower planes of hell and let the beast crush somebody who deserves it for once.
He knows he can't mass produce her yet, and he knows that there are most definitely those in Nessus and the other 8 Hells that could put her to rest for good (Don't even have to use wish, imprisonment is a good choice). For that reason, he prefers to use his Actaeons for attacks on neighbours

Whats his plans for this tower? Is he going to take over all of hell or what?
He first plans on destroying his home village, then systematically wiping out every sign of civilisation of Humankind on the Material plane. After that he will conquer the Outlands, and then start with everything connected to it. Bringing the entire multiverse to a state such that they will beg for his intellect to save them from their misery, something he never once received as a child growing up.

The 10 High Maesters?

Okay, here's what I've got so far for 3 of the 10:

Meredith Nussulheim - 1st High Maester of Grimdolf. Pixie 20 Wiz Something a little non-standard, an evil spellcaster Pixie. Pixies are 'always neutral good', so perhaps this one was driven out of her homeland by jealousy, she probably won't be able to use otto's irresistable dance for this reason
Muuso Haltine - 2nd High Maester of Grimdolf. Le Shay 21 Sor I made his name a pun on 'Mousou', which means 'Paranoia', so Sorcerer seems like a good choice for someone always looking over their shoulder for eternity
Gith - 3rd High Maester of Grimdolf. Githyanki/zerai 20 Sor/18 Ftr Yes, that Gith, the original leader of the Gith-yanki/zerai. The Citadel is in Baator, where she is purputed to have gone to serve Tiamat, who happens to have a big bet that Grimdolf will cause armageddon, and she's a mean gambler  Anyways, since Gith is noted as being a Forerunner, I will likely end up combining the racial modifiers of both races to create her
Gorb - 5th High Maester of Grimdolf. Ogre Mage 21 Sor/4 Bbn The not-so-strong-and-silent-type, this spellcaster should be able to kick some butt
Nelmnar - 7th High Maester of Grimdolf. Illithid+Lich 23rd WizThe Mind Flayers have their black sheep, and they are often shunned, this Alhoon should be fun to write
Morkiduum - 8th High Maester of Grimdolf. Rakshasa 22 Sor/3 Archmage A creature that will likely focus on Evocation magic, using the Archmage levels to improve it

Okay, builds of the other Maesters!
- 4th High Maester of Grimdolf. Human 6 Brd/16 Clr/9 Rog/9 Epic InfiltratorI felt at least one of the High Maesters should have an Epic Prestige Class, and the Infiltrator seemed the most appropriate. A man with extreme issues with being recognised seems like a good start

- 6th Maester of Grimdolf. Drow 21 Drd/10 BlackguardI'm really stuck for a name on this one, but I wanted at least 1 Blackguard amongst them, and I thought I'd take a natural approach

Cora Tealeaf - 9th High Maester of Grimdolf. Halfling 24 Sor/3 Shadowdancer/3 ArchmagePerhaps suffering from racial prejudice, this halfling is far from your standard spellcaster

Ulfgar Holderhek - 10th High Maester of Grimdolf. Dwarf 21 Sor/4 Dwarven Defender/5 ThaumaturgistI liked Dwarven Defender, and I liked Thaumaturgist, so I came up with a combination capable of making a very sturdy wall of defense whilst still contributing to rituals

- Talia M'rgath, Xth High Maester of Grimdolf. Tiefling wizard 10/Rogue 3/Arcane Trickster 10/ Epic Arcane Trickster
Talia was born in a huge magocracy on a material plane. Her father is unknown, her mother is a hooker. At birth, there was little clue of her heritage, save a 6th toe at each foot. As she grew up, she was remarked for her ivory skin that never tanned under the sun. She joined a thieves guild to avoid her mother's profession. She became jealous of the wizard's power in her country. She seduced a young wizard to teach her a few tricks, stole his spellbook and left him. The more she learned, the more she realized her ancestors should be powerful beings of the Lower Planes. She searched any means possible to explore those lower plane and find her ancestors. She eventually joined Grimdolf's organisation as a special assassin, and climbed in the hierarchy. She care few of his goals and do not discard the possibility of leaving him if he doesn't satisfy her own goals: finding her ancestor, and ruling her own kingdom on the lower planes.

- Broekä, Xth High Maester of Grimdolf. Green Hag Sorceress 9/ Elemental Savant (Water) 10
Broekä was much more curious than the average hag. She studied the elemental magic, and tortured adventuring wizard to learn more about this specific magic. She eventually became an Elemental Savant and travelled to the Elemental Plane of Water to make contact with the denizen. She met Grimdolf and offered her help in his plans if he would let her rule the oceans of any world he would conquer. She is far more powerful when helped by her two cohorts, an Annis Hag Barbarian 4/Sorceress 4/Rage Mage 5, and a Sea Hag Rogue 13, but those cohorts aren't allowed in the 10 High Maesters meetings

- Sir Matthias Coverton, Xth High Maester of Grimdolf. Ghost Human Ex-Paladin 3/Sorcerer 6/Eldritch Knigth 10/ Blackguard 3, currently possessing a Frost Giant.
Sir Matthias Coverton was an honorable knight of right and magic. He took part of one of the few attempts made to stop Grimdolf the Inconquerable Horror. Grimdolf was greatly impressed by the knight's skills on both arcane and martial arts, and his devotion was a challenge for Grimdolf. Coverton was captured and his allies were all tortured and killed before his eyes. Using divination magic, Grimdolf learned that Coverton waived his rights on his father's dukedom to pursue higher objectives. Grimdolf convinced him that he should be the one leading the dukedom. He taught he had failed when the knight killed himself in a suicide attack, but he greatly rejoice when the man's sould returned as an evil ghost, doomed to attempt to rule the Coverton Dukedom. The Frost Giant he currently uses as vessel was one of Broekä's minion.

Another idea could be to use a Worm-that-walks (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/epicNonAbominations.html#worm-that-walks). Since there is an epic spell to create it, it could be Grimdolf himself who created it.

Oups! I should have seen the one asking for NPCs was the same who posted 10 NPCs... But are those builds sealed in cement? Perhaps my 3 builds could replace a few of yours?

I have a question regarding Grimdolf himself. He seems to be a total of 75 levels, and his goal is to destroy his home village? Damn, a BBEG of that level could be able to destroy an entire material plane!

Also, from the other forum, I saw Grimdolf didn't worship any god, but where is he taking his clerical spells?

Here's a few raw ideas for your High Maesters of Grimdolf.
Meredith Nussulheim - 1st High Maester of Grimdolf. Pixie 20 Wiz
I doubt jealousy alone is enough to switch an alignment that is always neutral good to neutral evil. It could work for an alignment that is usually or often NG, but not always. It would need something deeper, like an Helm of Opposite Alignment. But since the Helm require a Will save DC 15, I guess Meredith should have used it in her early career. It could be Grimdolf (or Muuso?) himself who forced her to put the Helm a few centuries ago, and she ends up being a powerful ally. Today, her goal could be to become the new queen of the Unseelie Court, and she believe Grimdolf can help her to achieve this objective.

Muuso Haltine - 2nd High Maester of Grimdolf. Le Shay 21 Sor
I'm not sure what is a LeShay, from the information I gathered on internet, they seems to be an ancient race of feys. Perhaps Muuso was once a proud warrior-sorcerer who was kept prisonner for 5000 years. During this period, Muuso grew bitter and ruminated a complicated vengeance. He was freed by some gnomes digging some mine, and Muuso killed them all. He travelled to the Baator, searching some artefact needed for his vengeance, and he met Grimdolf. Now he's sure the artefact he need is somewhere in the Citadel.

Gith - 3rd High Maester of Grimdolf. Githyanki/zerai 20 Sor/18 Ftr
That's one who doesn't need a background. Just note she would be very suspicious of Nelmnar...

4th High Maester of Grimdolf. Human 6 Brd/16 Clr/9 Rog/9 Epic Infiltrator
This one should be Cleric of Shar, using the Shadow Weave. She was sent by Shar herself to gather the more information possible on Grimdolf. However, she double-crossed Shar, and joined Grimdolf. She's working on a way to get out of the Citadel via the Shadow plane.

Gorb - 5th High Maester of Grimdolf. Ogre Mage 21 Sor/4 Bbn
???

- 6th Maester of Grimdolf. Drow 21 Drd/10 Blackguard
This one worship Grumbar, the Elemental God of Earth, and plan to destroy elven kingdoms with powerful earthquakes. But the elven magic is too strong, and he's looking for something stronger for his own vengeance. He could also be looking for a way to destroy the cult of Lolth, since he's not worshipping a drow god.

Nelmnar - 7th High Maester of Grimdolf. Illithid+Lich 23rd Wiz
After sucking up a Brain-in-a-jar, Nelmnar became an undead Illithid. This process cutted him from the Elder Brain. The rest of the Illithid society detected him as a threat, and they tryed to kill him. However, being undead, he was immune to their Mind Blast, and he was able to escape. He began some researches to create an Undead Elder Brain, and joined Grimdolf to benefit from his help in this insane project. However, he haven't realized yet that the 3rd high master is his racial enemy.

Morkiduum - 8th High Maester of Grimdolf. Rakshasa 22 Sor/3 Archmage
???

Cora Tealeaf - 9th High Maester of Grimdolf. Halfling 24 Sor/3 Shadowdancer/3 Archmage
Cora is beautiful, charming and vain. She loves to be the focus of attention, and she uses her natural magical talents to achieve that. She knew Meredith many years ago and was always jealous of her natural beauty. She joined Grimdolf in the hope of killing her.

Ulfgar Holderhek - 10th High Maester of Grimdolf. Dwarf 21 Sor/4 Dwarven Defender/5 Thaumaturgist
This built doesn't work, Thaumaturgist only works for Divine Spellcasters. You could make him a cleric instead of sorcerer?

Oups! I should have seen the one asking for NPCs was the same who posted 10 NPCs... But are those builds sealed in cement? Perhaps my 3 builds could replace a few of yours?
I have recently elected to change Meredith to a Monk2/Wizard5/Loremaster12/Archmage5 focused around using Telekinesis with 50 small Longswords of Wounding (See sig for the inspiration)
I have a question regarding Grimdolf himself. He seems to be a total of 75 levels, and his goal is to destroy his home village? Damn, a BBEG of that level could be able to destroy an entire material plane!
The hatred of his home village from kicking him out and destroy what was then his most brilliant invention was what fueled his entire adolescent life, he's out for revenge...with compound interest
Also, from the other forum, I saw Grimdolf didn't worship any god, but where is he taking his clerical spells?
As noted in the thread, his Cleric levels are tied to Chaos & Destruction
Ulfgar Holderhek - 10th High Maester of Grimdolf. Dwarf 21 Sor/4 Dwarven Defender/5 Thaumaturgist
This built doesn't work, Thaumaturgist only works for Divine Spellcasters. You could make him a cleric instead of sorcerer?
Good point, only just realised lesser planar ally is a Cleric only spell :P Hmm...how about Clr 17/Sor 18/Dwarven Defender 4/Thaumaturgist 5

Hey, I like the idea and would like to help come up with some backstory stuff. I have a few questions. Are any of them finished (i.e. any that I shouldn't bother working on)? Is 1 the highest and 10 the lowest, or vice versa? You say you don't want Cliche, can you give an example of what not to do? Let me know, And my mind is yours for the picking :)

Are any of them finished (i.e. any that I shouldn't bother working on)?I've finished building Meredith Nussusulheim [1st], Muuso Haltine [2nd], Gorb [5th], and Nelmnar [7th], and I've almost finished building Ulfgar Holderhek [10th]. Pretty much all their backgrounds are subject to alteration however, so feel free.

However, the group have already encountered Meredith, and have found that she fits into a rather large mouthful of an archetype: She's a Sadistic Childish Dominatrix. She loves to inflict pain and was seen drinking the blood of one of her kills as it dripped from a levitated longsword. She also keeps using pretty simple sentences, and keeps referring to 'playing' (Such as "Do you want to play too?"). She has an entire ballroom-full (literally) of victims-turned-ghosts haunting her in an endless waltz, but they don't seem to bother her at all, in fact she has actually used them to scare one of the characters (The same one she's interested in). And, she's not particularly abject to rape too....
Is 1 the highest and 10 the lowest, or vice versa? There is no particular standing between the High Maesters, 1-10 is just a numbering system, they are all the same authority, though they may be very different in levels.
You say you don't want Cliche, can you give an example of what not to do? Let me know, And my mind is yours for the picking :)Nothing like 'my father/mother/daughter/son/sister/brother was murdered at the cruel hands of an Archon and now I seek revenge!' essentially. If you can think of more than 3 instances of it occuring in any media (Books, games, movies etc.) then consider it cliche.
Additionally, I'm sure Nelmnar loves that mental image...

ok #4, cleric 16/bard 6/rogue 9/epic inflitrator 9

______ denotes name, since you don't ahve one posted

___ was a boy who grew up not being praised for anything. He was originally raised in a church of Heironeous, but was thrown out because of the cruelty that he showed to those weaker than him. He spent the next few years living on the streets. He found that he was quite adept at finding out who had money and who didn't. One day when he was tring to pick a mark a wandering bard seized him and laughed at him for being so foolinsh. He offered to be his master if the boy was willing to be a faithful apprentice. His name was Delnir, an elf. He traveled with Delnir for three years. Learning a little about hot to make a living as a care free bard, though Delnir was never too kind, and shared little of what they got. "You are the stupid apprentice, and am the master.
One day while _______ and Delnir wre traveling, they recieved a message from Delnir's sister, Kyeel. She was in a bad situation and it said that she was "calling in his debt." So they returned to Delni's hometown and proceeded to help his sister smooth over the investigations of a local law enforcement. Upon meeting Kyeel he falls madly in love. When he spends a few days with her, hearing about her clerical studies and her God, Nerull, he can't contain himself. He asks Delnir if he can be released from his apprenticeship contract, and Delnir refuses. "Over my dead body" were his exact words. That night _____ cuts Delnir's throat while he slept. And then forged a note from Delnir that stated that he had to leave, but he couldn't take his apprentice, _____, along. He asked if Kyeel would watch over his apprentice, as he has taken a shine to her.
_____ was now in the service of Kyeel, and enjoying his training as a cleric of Nerull. He learned quick, and showed unmatched cruelty. He did his all to show Kyeel how devout he was, and to win her heart. But she refused to show him any love, though she was much kinder than Delnir had been. During his 6th year of his apprenticeship with her, though he was strting to become as strong as she was, she was given a mission to retrieve a powerful artifact for Nerull. As they neared the end of this mission and were about to procure the artifact, Grimdolf appeared. He wanted to claim the object as "trinket" to use in his studies. He discinitgrated Kyeel, and locked he soul into the artifact. Then in the fight he left _____ bloodied and left him for dead. ______ made it out of the skirmish alive, though he will always bear the scars on his right arm (or may have gotten the ar completely replaced).
After he was healthy enough he started training again. Redoubling his efforts, and putting more focus on the street smarts that kept him alive as a child. He began to focus his efforts on stealth and trickery. He then made his way to the 9th layer of hell, where he worked his way into Grimdolf's tower, and tried his best to kill Grimdolf. He failed miserably, but Grimdolf was amused. He liked the nerve that he showed, and offered him a position as a Measter. _____ agreed on the grounds that should he ever defeat Grimdolf, he would be able to regain Kyeel's soul. Grimdolf laughed and then happily accepted.
Now he likes to toy with his prey, showing more cruelty than ever. His favorite trick is to use his great power of intuition (sense motive) to predict what a person is thinking and feeling, and then recite this to them in order to cause fear. He tries to kill Grimdolf whenever he is near enough to, and many times will kill of some of Grimdolf's guards to lure him out into the open.

Secretly he admires Grimdolf, though he will say openly that he detests Grimdolf. Many of the other Maesters dislike him, because they mostly side with Grimdolf, and woudn't dare say that they oppose him.

He has the domains Death and Trickery. And he uses an oversized Scythe.

let me know what you think

The spoiler blocks use the [sblock][*/sblock] function, just remove the *.

Well, Grimdolf's wife, Patricia Fanelia, was turned into what is essentially a breeding creature for his creations. He still treats her like his wife, but he doesn't care about her nearly as much.

Of note, the Gith listed is that actual Gith, who was sent to the Nine Hells as part of the pact between the Githyanki and the Red Dragons

Oh, and the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 9th High Maesters are female

Ok, so I'm guessing that what I have for the 4th can still work, just change all the genders of the main people.

I'll have to work that new info into the 6th, I think that I can still make it work, and trust me, it's worth hearing even if you don't want to use it.

I know nothing about that Gith. My knowledge of DnD mythological lore is limited to the rise and fall of the archdevils (my first DM was a huge fan of Hell).

I'll try to post them this evening, I should have the time to type them out then.

#6 Drow Driud/Blackguard

"drow" is the wife of Grimfold. Not long ofter he was forced to leave his hometown, he was travelling through the underdark. As he wished more an more to take over the material plane, she felt that it was going to be her job to help him re-create hte material plane in his design. Eventually she felt that not only would she re create the landscape, but it would be their children that would re-populate the plane.
She got him to consent to their marrage, though he never really had the presence of mind to only keep to their marrage, believing that marrage was not a bond in manogomy, but instead it was a bond that would hold two people together forever. So he took another wife. This angered "drow". She pushed him to eventually use his experiments on his new wife, and the daughter that they had concieved. So that again, she alone was the only one that was his suitor. After this, she became much sterner in nature. Any time that she felt that some woman was getting to close to Grimfold, she would deal with them, brutally, and painfully.
She is completely obsessed with him completeing his goal, and will do anything for him.

Her main equipment is her armor. She has two sets of full plate that she wears depending on the occation. One is made from the scales of an old worm prismatic dragon. It was a gift from Grimfold, to calm her after a dispute. The other is a set of full plade made from scales from the Tarrasque. this one is a trophy from her conquering her compeditors of her love.

Morkidum Rakshas Sorc 22/Archmage 3
Morkidum believes himself to be the most powerful sorcerer in the multiverse. Having Heard of Grimfold's prowess with spells, he saught Grimfold out and challenged him to a mage's duel. He challenged Grimfold to come to his home (which is a personal demiplane, attaached to Dis [the second layer of Hell], and it looks like it's a part of Dis, only magic is effectivly maximized, empowered, and widened) to take part in the challange. Grimfold not being one to turn down to prove himself to be superior, accepted.
During the challange, Morkidum continued to counter every spell that was thrown at him. And then purposly allowed some to hit him so that they would sizzle on his spell resistance. He began to laugh and taunt Grimfold, for he knew that Grimfold could not hurt him, and he had not even started an offense. Finally he turned his back to Grimfold, and said that if Grimfold could not hurt him as such, the Grimfold did not deserve to be called a Sorcerer. Grimfold not being a complete fool, knew what to do. he pulled two dozen holy arrows from a sack and used Telekinesis to pepper the Rakshasa's back. Morkidum was furious, and it was Grimfold that was laughing now.
Morkidum barely had the strength to stay conscious, so a reprisal was out of hte question. He cursed Grimfold for cheating, and not playing by the rules. he said that the win did not belong to grimfold, and that if they were to duel again then Grimfold would certainly kneel before him. Grimfold refused and taunted him.
Now we works a a Measter so that he can take the initiative when the time comes and lay waste to the material plane before Grimfold. So that he can hold thatabove his head, and challenge him to another duel

#9 Cora Tealeaf Halfling Sorc 24/Shadow Dancer 3/ Archmage 3
Grimfold has had only one daughter in his lifetime and due to his wife "drow" continues to have a distaste for sireing children. One way that he has dealt with this is the use of polymorph to turn himself into someone else. in this case he is not having an extramarital sexual encounter, it's someone else (the logic of a crazy man).
Thus was the beginnings of Cora Tealeaf. A halfling born from a night of passion between her mother and a polymorphed Grimfold. She was a bright young halfling, and proved to be a very promising sorceress. Having no history of sorceror's blood running in her mother's side of the family she decied taht it must have come from her father. And so she decide to seek him out.
After searhing for a while she came into dire staights and got involved with a local organized crime family. {if a name for them is needed, either the Tenors or the Castrados} She figured that they would have the means to find out information on him based on the little that her mother knew. She quickly took to the work, and showed great aptitude, become almost invaluable to the family. The family was one of the few groups in the world that specialized in shadow manipulations, and they trained her as such, to make her an even deadlier opponent to deal with.
After about 3 years the family came upon some information about a crazy sorceror that would polymorph himslef and secude women, and that he had been seen in the area around 23 years before (Cora was 22 at the time). They decided not to tell Cora because they did not want to lose such a valuable agent. Well, while at the bar one of the family's personal guards got very drunk, and accidentally told this information to Cora. She wasn't happy, killing the guard with barely a motion.
She approached the head of the family while he was at dinner with hte rest of his immediate family. She confronted him about this, and he told her that if she knew then she would want to leave. And NOBODY leaves the family. And futthermore that it would be over his dead body that she would leave, because of how valuable she is. At that the Family Head's youngest daughter (15) discintegrated, and Cora uttered the words "That can be arranged."
So after leaving the family, she spent 3 years finding the whereabouts of her long lost father, leaving many bodies in her wake. When she finally caught up with him, she also met his wife "drow," and quickly understood that she shouldn't mention anyting abobut being his daughter. She told him that she was a great believer in his cause and wished to serve him. She is now one of his most loyal Maesters (second only to "Drow").

I was thinking that it might be a good idea to give her Draconic Heritage at first level so that she could take hide as a class skill, and possibly open up some of the other draconic feats.)
She prefers to use hit and run tactics, her favorite is to use her ring of clairaudince/clairvoyance to see somone coming, wait on the otherside of the door, after they have bypassed an easy trap, and then hit them with a powerful area affect spell, and then disappear.

My idea of Gith doesn't look likeit will work, mainly because I have no idea who your Gith is. Let me know if there is anything else you want me to work on. it's bneen fun writing these backstories

For your convenience, Gith (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gith) and Illithid Society (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illithid#Illithid_Society).

In short, Gith was the Forerunner that freed the Githyanki and Githzerai from the subjugation of the Mind Flayers. Conveniently, she was said to have gone to Baator to serve Tiamat, who has a good bet on Grimdolf causing armageddon. She did this as part of a pact with the Red Dragons to help them.

Well let's see now:
1st - Perfectly simplistic and brilliant all in one. Not a shred of machiavellian script and it still manages to produce a very complex character!
2nd -
3rd -
4th - Perfect, I'm using it already, though I'm keeping Kyeel female and Delnir male ;)
5th -
6th - A very nice little tale I must say. The idea of Grimdolf actually showing compassion works very nicely, and her allegiance to him is wonderful.
7th -
8th - It's an interesting background, but I'm not sure about the 'sticking around to thwart you' thing, it's already in use for the 4th. Perhaps he's knowledgeably underneath an enchantment spell, as a trophy for Grimdolf
9th - Cora is absolutely fantastic, I love her involvement in organised crime. Her combat maneuver is pretty nice too :)
10th -

Overall, I'd say you're doing a stand up job with these, way better than I probably could do, writer's block and all :P 10/10
But try and remember that it's Grimdolf, not Grimfold, and please work on spelling. It makes it easier to format into my background files ;)

HEEEEERRREEEEES Meredith

Meredith Nuss Pixie Monk 2/ Wizard 5/ Loremaster 12/ Archmage 5

Meredith was everything that a pixie could hope to be. Smart, pretty, and helpful. One day she came across an injured man in her grove. This man wore full plate armor and had a greatsword, so Meredith felt uneasy. But, he had a symbol of Heironeous (sp) around his neck, so she proceeded to bring him healing herbs and potions, and brought the rest of the grove to help.
Years went by, and rumor spread of an evil being in the woods that killed anyone who entered. And eventually it came to be known that there was a powerful artifact that was being protected by said creature. None of this was true, and anyone who came seeking the artifact was killed by Meredith…till one day.
He then set his magic upon her, nailing her helpless to a tree, and proceeded to have a conversation with her. Upon finding her hatred for humanity he freed her, hugged her, and offered her a position as a Measter, so that she would help him destroy the material plane.

*Note: Just so that you know, The paladin from before is a Fallen paladin of Heironious, and a Blackguard, smiting the good pixies for fun.

Also, She still likes to use herinnocense as a pixie to get people to enter a pool that she keeps in any place that she resides. She likes ot see how much the people will take off before they go through her "ritual." And if you wanted to be truely evil, you could say taht players have to go one at a time. And she will say that the previous personleft through the second door in the room, which is a hallucinary hallway that is actually a pit that leads down to a boiler room where she strips then burns the bodies.

I don't have accerss to any of the books right now, I have thought of a few things that go with your characters.

Master of the Unseen Hand, for Meredith, allows more versatility with her telekinesis, and can replace some of the archmage class...I don't know how you are planning to use the archmage class, as I have never seen too many helpful things in it.

Rage Mage for Gorb, I can't remember exactly how this class works, i just remember that it exists

Spellsword for Gith, allow hit to use some armor (some mithral or quarts blend (arms and equipment)). So that that there are a few Maesters that are using armor, to make it look like it might not be a purely magical fight.

Another thing that i thought of is that the tactic that Grimdolf used against Morkidum is the same as the one that Meredith uses, not that helpful, just kinda cool that you could say that he learned taht tactic from her, and may use it as well...only with larger, more deadly weapons.

I've heard lots of using MotUH for her, but I can't acquire rules at all for it. Having researched it, however, I can say that it doesn't do well to improve Meredith. Archmage allows her to improve her other spells (2x Arcane Reach, Mastery of Shaping, Mastery of Elements, and Spell Power) like Sonic fireball or 60 ft. range imprisonment

I'll have to check that out, but Gorb is an excellent example that the Maesters don't rely on magic. Ulfgar is another, he just uses magic to improve his already powerful defenses.

Gorb, I'm not fully satisfied, but he needs the least back story as far as I can tell.

Gorb Ogre Mage Sorcerer 21/ Barb 4

When you think of a transmuter, you think of someone that changes the area around them, or that increases the person next to them. Not Gorb, Gorb is the kind of Transmuter that sees the power that lies in magic is meant to make the wielder of that magic more powerful, not others. With this in mind, he has subjugated all of the ogre tribes in the southern continent.
Gorb is one of the few Maesters that Grimdolf has actually sought and recruited. He is in charge of creating an army on the material plane, and preparing that army for the slaughter of all living things on the material plane. Grimdolf has promised Gorb that any army that he raises will be spared from his onslaught, under that condition that they leave the material plane.
Gorb is usually the first to get to try out the new death machines that Grimdolf makes. Gorb prefers to squish his enemies.
Gorb is probably the most tactically minded of all the Maesters, though a lot of his tactics hinge around throwing a large force against a smaller force, and then cleaning up whatever is left with his powers or his newest machine.
In a battle where hew is the only combatant, he will use his ability to fly to keep out of his opponent’s reach. Turn invisible, then move to keep them guessing, create dark patches so thatr anyone without true seeing (or some way of seeing in magical darkness) can’t see. Will not always hide in the darkness, many times will target from up high, hide behind the darkness, lob an area affect spell, then returns to invisibility.

Favorite spells:
Enlarge Person
Bull’s Strength
True Strike (in conjunction with power Attack)
Tenser’s Transformation

Weapon:
Adamantine Mercurial Great Maul – Great for sundering

Well, there are always Keen, Flaming Burst, Lightning Burst, Icy Burst rapiers of wounding. Not even an epic weapon (only +9), that does 4d6, plus con damage, and has a 25% chance of doing an additional 1d6+3d10, and you can do even more if you can figure a way to increase the critical on the rapier...like making them mercurial. But that's just getting rediculous. :D

I am going to go back and re-work Gorb. I like the idea of making him the standing general on the material plane, and being a group tactician.

Updated Gorb

Gorb was born to the leader of his tribe.

He is very intelligent, and knew that he would have to gain foot holds, before he could make great leaps.

One day, he went to fight back a small band if human adventurers that were trying to make a name for themselves. On his return trip he ran across a strange sight, a man that was destroying his minions as if he were pushing his way through grass. He was astounded. Never before had he seen such battle prowess. He wanted to know how to obtain such power. Grimdolf said that his power is easily obtainable, first he would have to kill those around him, which Gorb did mercilessly. Grimdolf taught Gorb a few secrets, nothing spectacular, but never the less Gorb was entranced. He knew that this was how he would be able to take over the world, by obtaining Grimdolf’s power.

Nelmarr

Nelmarr Wiz 24

Nelmarr was enthralled by the stories of the Elder Brains growing up.
At first he was infuriated by the intrusion, but then he decided that this may be a chance to find out what has been going on. The man that he met that day seemed like he was out of his mind, and was looking for this tomb to find the arcane secrets that it held. Nelmarr invited him in to speak about, figuring that if he could not get enough information from this man, then he would just eat his brain, reseal the tomb, and continue his studies.
After a straight week of talking he was amazed by his stranger, who he had learned his name was Grimdolf. He even came to respect him as a master of arcane arts. Fromt hat day he desired to work with Grimdolf to advance his studies, and both of their plans. He views Grimdolf as his equal, even though he has taken up the title of a Measter of Grimdolf, he would just as easily say the Grimdolf has taken up the title of Measter of Nelmarr.

Alabaster: Lich Mnk4/BlG11/Wiz13/Arc2.

Alabaster was born in a war torn area of the earth (or whatever your world is called). When he was born, his parents couldn’t support the child so they left him for the nearest monastery, hoping that they would take him in. He had a darkness in his heart, knowing that he was abandoned by those that were supposed to love him. He saw all of the other children that were left there being visited by the family that left him behind. He grew hateful. When he was seventeen he saw a few of the children that he had been raised with go wandering to experience the world and learn more, and other were adopted into the Paladin orders. He hated them all, the goody two-shoes. He set out, but not to learn about the world, but to learn how to bring people into his despair. He eventually found that you can throw people into despair easier by making them like you, then hate you. He worked on butting up a false front. Looking hurt so that people would take him in, and then he would turn on them…or better yet, get them to turn on each other. After slaying a paladin of Heironeous, he took the poor soul’s armor, and started posing as a paladin, or a forsaken paladin. He owes allegiance to no one, and works as a tool of corruption, desecration, and destruction.

Insipration hit, and I got two done. Let me know what you think.

Well, remember that in order to get Alabaster's Blackguard levels, he would need to be a Paladin to qualify, given that his Monk levels don't meet the criteria. A juicy little segment I put in intentionally :schemes:

Nelmnar looks good
TianWuTank

02-03-06, 07:15 PM
I don't see why he would have to be a paladin...it isn't necessary.

To qualify to become a blackguard, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.

Alignment: Any evil.

Base Attack Bonus: +6.

Skills: Hide 5 ranks, Knowledge (religion) 2 ranks.

Feats: Cleave, Improved Sunder, Power Attack.

Special: The character must have made peaceful contact with an evil outsider who was summoned by him or someone else.

nothing states that he has to be a paladin at some point. Plus you didn't give him any paladin levels. If you want him to have paladin levels, just give me the adjustment, or if you want him to have had 10 levels in paladin and then trade them all for blackguard?

Gotcha, monk paladin that falls and becomes a blackguard, and learns wizardry as a nasty tactic against his foes. Is he an all around magic user, or just offensive spells?
Lyinginbedmon

02-04-06, 04:46 AM
Offensive tactical, and he keeps his body in perfect condition with his Ring of Unearthly Life, which gives the effect of gentle repose, a body temperature illusion, and a bonus on Fortitude saves. So, he's extremely calculating, primordially evil, and a touch vain. That much we can determine.

And I take it that he is wearing armor and taking the spell failure...or does he have a high enough wisdom that he doesn't want to wear armor? And does he have a Monk's Belt? I love those items.

Monk's Belt and a 22 Wisdom. He does wear a Cloak of Illusory Grandeur though, that makes it look like he's wearing pitch-black full plate, without providing any of the effects.

So, is he pretending to be a paladin in pitch black full plate? Or is he just being a fighter? Anything else I should know to incorporate into his backstory?
He's acting as an entrepreneur Paladin with a few levels in Monk, effectively as a 6th level character. He has a loyal Undead Minion and a Raven, as well as a loyal servant Gray Jester called Uncle Chortle (12 HD), who he uses to create slaves via Bleak Ones. On a psychological level, you could argue that he wears the black armor as a contrast to his name: Alabaster Bronislav effectively is geared towards white and purity. He may be trying to say the everything is 'black and white'

He's looking to fool the local adventurers guild into doing his bidding to remove opposition, then starting a War Forge to create a small army to remove the remnants and create situations for the adventurers to keep busy with (Distract them basically, from what he's actually doing), then try and oppress the city the adventurers are in. But first, he needs to get rid of the darned Monk of the party, so he's hiring a team of 3 assassins to take him out ala JFK. Once he's dead, he will personally pay for part of the funeral, under the guise of mourning a good friend, then reanimate the body as a servant and use him to run the forge. He will then use Bleak Ones to infiltrate the local government, and gain lordship of the city by democratic vote. He wants the city, without anyone batting an eye :schemes:

At the moment, he's the most intelligent enemy the adventurers have ever faced.

Alabaster: Lich Mnk4/BlG11/Wiz13/Arc2. Take 2

Alabaster was the son of a noble family. They traveled together for many years, and each passing year Morgan revealed more and more of his darker side, including his interest in necromancy. Morgan laughed, knowing that this would happen sooner or later, and reveling in the experience of breaking a noble paladin. In a fit of rage he killed Morgan, and that was when he knew that he could never go back. He knew that necromancy had become a part of who he was, and he liked that part. From then on he wanted chaos to follow in his footsteps.

leShay Sorcerer

Qui’ll Ba’n’gall is a leShay. He is one of the oldest leShay in existence. Most leShay will tell you that some great catastrophe befell reality before this reality came into existence. The catastrophe wiped out much of the leShay race, and basically restarted time. Qui’ll Ba’n’gall was there when that catastrophe happened, and though he won’t tell anyone what happened, he does know.

He spent time traveling the outer planes, to pass the time, and look for a fitting way to reset reality, this is when he met Grimdolf. He came upon Grimdolf’s tower, and marveled at its grotesque absurdity, a mere mortal to have the arrogance to build a tower in Hell. Grimdolf struck him as the perfect medium through which to exact his catastrophe. He knows himself to be more powerful that Gromdolf, and does not fear any reprisal from him [look at the base stats for these guys, Give him glass levels and he’s scary beyond belief]. He had made Grimdolf believe that his power is not as great as Grimdolf’s, but that he could easily be an asset. And since has worked to aid in Grimdolf’s place, knowing that when the time is right, his own plans will come to fruition as well.

Ulfgar

10 Ulfgar Holderhek: Clr 17/Sor 18/Dwarven Defender 4/Thaumaturgist 5

Ulfgar was raised in a typical dwarven family, and at a young age, he was accepted to study as a cleric of Moradin. So, they sent him off to be trained with the Dwarven Defenders, another honorable dwarven tradition that he could join.
So he now set upon this path, learning Thurmaturgy, to call upon new devils in the name of Asmodeus. He even found a cohort that was willing to follow him, a Kyton fighter by the name of Cronos. When he first met Cronos, Cronos told him a story about another powerful man who lived in hell, Grimdolf. Hearing that there was someone who had stories that rivaled the ones of the gods and archdevils, Ulfgar set out to meet this man.

Notes: Ulfgar is quite clearly out of his mind. He believes that all devils are his friends, because Kavlax was his only friend growing up, and Kavlax introduced him to more devils. He has a very childish demeanor, and prefers to watch his friends toy with his “not-friends.”
Kavlax sensed the ability for Ulfgar to become a sorcerer when he was wandering through the dwarven hold looking to play pranks. He saw the way that Ulfgar was treated, and decided that the greatest prank of all would be to turn a dwarf into a Diabolist (prestige class from the BoVD)

With his, his spirits rose, he got to contact the source of great stories, got offered to help him, and then got the opportunity to have great stories told about him.

Very nice! Certainly a route I would never have thought of, you really are very talented Tank

Gith
Gith

Gith is a very well know creature. Her backstory is something that you know, well, up to a point.

Well, for a little gravedigging and to make this topic something other than it's 69 post count, I think I may have a little challenge for you:

Expanding on Alabaster's evil schemes in my present Horror campaign, he is being assisted by his two lackeys,
Uncle Chortle (Gray Jester (Page 151 of Heroes of Horror) Bard 16 [Lawful Evil]), who uses his Bard levels and Heighten spell to make extreme use of Tasha's Hideous Laughter to net a good deal of Bleak Ones to sneak Alabaster into office
Dark Shadow (Anagram, also known as Arsd Wadokh, Hark Sodawd, Howd Asardk, Raka Shwodd, Waro Shaddk etc.) (Naztharune Rakshasa (Page 136 of Monster Manual III) Assassin 10/Rogue 4 [Lawful Evil]), who is used to 'persuade' not-so-Bleak Ones to shall we say, 'fail their saving throws'? Later, he'll be a General in Alabaster's private army that he plans on using to subjugate the city.

Where are Grey Jesters and Bleak ones from? I don't recognize them. And how do you get a Lawful Evil Bard?

I'll see waht I can do. :D Looks like fun.
Lyinginbedmon

02-22-06, 02:24 PM
As noted, Gray Jesters and Bleak Ones are from Heroes of Horror. Gray Jesters basically feed on Charisma to the point that when someone is drained they either lose the ability to feel happiness and laugh (If they have more HD than the Jester) or turn into Bleak Ones, creatures who blindly obey everything the Jester says and have pretty much a complete lack of emotion (If they have less HD than the Jester).

In the example adventure in the beginning of HoH, a Green Hag & her Gray Jester accomplice turn a group of children into Bleak Ones, then the Hag eats one alive in small chunks the others cut out of her.

And naturally, Bards can be Lawful, they just can't progress further as Bards if they are Lawful. They still retain all their abilities though, so he's still as dangerous as when he was Chaotic/Neutral

Where do Grey Jesters come from? Or are they just another type of undead? Or are they just some strange creature?
Lyinginbedmon

02-23-06, 07:55 AM
The gray jester is a type of evil fey drawn to humanoids. It feeds on laughter and joy, strengthening itself while permanently draining these emotions from its unfortunate target. Gray jesters look like jesters/clowns/mines etc. in black, gray or white clothing. They are usually pretty thin, even sometimes almost anorexic (Usually in the case of mimes). Their eyes are cold and empty, their smiles wide & filled with perfectly white broken teeth. All of them have a scepter in some form or another, similar to those of actual jesters. They average about 5-6 feet tall and weight about 110 pounds. They speak Common, Elven, and SylvanAbove section paraphrased so as to (hopefully) avoid the wrath of Coast-bound gods...

Uncle Chortle – Grey Jester Bard 16

Uncle Chorlte is much like any other Grey Jester in his pursuit of happiness to drain. But, Chortle is smarter than most. He found that if you can pretend that you are going spread a little joy, then the joyful run to you, and are easy fodder. He traveled far and wide slowly feeding on people, never draining on them so far that he wouldn’t be able to feed on them again. It was a strange day, the day that he met Alabaster. He say a sleeping Paladin, wearing golden armor, and he thought that he would be able to take out a hero of all that he hoped to drain. He had tried to draw from him, but there was little happiness to draw, and he was quickly found out and defeated. Alabaster found him to be useful, and decided to take him on as a cohort. He then told him to hide and watch. As he pretended to be more gravely injured than he was, a grove of fairies came out and decided to help him. Then, when they least expected it, he turned and slaughtered the bunch of them, and told Chortle that he may feast on them. He drained them all dry, and then found that some of them changed, well at least for the little while before the last of their life force held out. From that day on he followed Alabaster, because of his ability to help him feed, and because he is in awe of his power.

*Note – This is one reason why Meredith may be as vengeful as she is, since she has had all the happiness sucked out of her by a Dark Jester that is of a lower level than her.
Also, this is how he became lawful, as he learned that there were better ways of getting things done.

Chortle looks pretty nice, good link in to Meredith through Alabaster, especially given the fact that Fey (usually) don't age.

I've just been fleshing out Nelmnar's tomb for an upcoming adventure, so I thought to inject some action into it I'd pop a Swarmshifter (Undead Sand) Mummy into the equation, by the name of Krystian:

Once a valiant young hunter of the undead, Krystian set out from his temple home to eradicate the evil of undeath from the world.

Obviously, I don't want to flesh him out too much, since he'll probably be destroyed in the same adventure (Or the PCs will just run away and the one who plans on living in the next-door castle will never go near the tomb again). I used an 11th level Human Cleric (Destruction, Good), then applied the Mummy and Swarmshifter templates from Libris Mortis to him, making him a loyal servant to Nelmnar, and the Sand-form from swarmshifter emphasises just how long he's actually been left in the tomb.

Looks good. I would maybe say that he is still in active service of Nelmar. And that this is Nelmar's primary base of operations. That way there is plenty of current info about Nelmar. Also, Take a look at the salt mummy, it's got some pretty fun differences (the dehydrating touch), and can be considred a test subject for Nelmar. Since he would probably be trying to figure out different types of undead. That way they can run into a few sand shifters, or a few salt mummies before hand, and then when they run into him, he is the culmination of several experiments.

I'll work on fleshing out your Rakshasa later, I've had a few ideas for him.

Dark Shadow (Anagram, also known as Arsd Wadokh, Hark Sodawd, Howd Asardk, Raka Shwodd, Waro Shaddk etc.) (Naztharune Rakshasa (Page 136 of Monster Manual III) Assassin 10/Rogue 4

Dark Shadow always wanted to make a name for himself. Like many Rakshasa, he craved more power. He was always jealous of the way that most Rakshasa could weild arcane magic. He never strived to gain it for himself, because he knew where his talent’s lay, and wasn’t about to make himself weaker just so that he could get a few spells, as enticing as they were.
He took pleasure in the abilities that he did have, especially his ability to become someone new. He loved to take on a new personality every time that he entered a town, and wondered how he would go about taking money from those less intelligent than himself. It wasn’t long until just taking their money didn’t appeal to him, it was too easy. He started to kill for fun. Many people who kill for fun like to hear their victims scream, and so they target women and children. Shadow did not care for this. To him it was an art form. He wanted to make the kill as quick and seamless as possible. He wanted to see the look on the face of a strong person, the look that showed that they were dead and didn’t even know it.
On one of his endeavors, he had killed an aristocrat that was said to have the toughest security. Though he did not have to much of a problem getting through. Shortly after the kill, another man, dressed in a black robe and mask, entered the room. He was stunned to see that someone beat him to the kill. He identified himself as Gibbon, an assassin. He told Shadow that he showed great promise in his ability to kill. He offered him a deal, that if he let Gibbon take the credit for the kill, since it was just for Shadow’s personal fun anyways, that he would train Shadow as an assassin. He needed to be the one that killed the aristocrat to get paid. Shadow agreed, feeling that there was something that he could gain out of this, more than just his moment of enjoyment. So Gibbon doctored up the body, to leave his mark, and they withdrew.
From then on they traveled together. Gibbon taught Shadow how to be a proper assassin. This included how to draw upon arcane magic to aid you. Shadow was a fast and eager student, especially to learn how to maximize his abilities and learn arcane magic at the same time. After a year of traveling, Shadow had become almost as adept at the trade as Gibbon, leaving few traits left to be passed on. Gibbon said that there was a matter to seen to, that he must undertake alone, and never returned. It was rumored that a man had broken into the Temple of the Inner Planes, killed many and then got sucked into a portal that was destroyed shortly after. Upon hearing this, and the varied descriptions of the man, Shadow figured that his mentor was gone for good, though he knew it was time for him to press out on his own anyways.
He traveled for years, perfecting his technique whenever he had the chance. After a few more years he came upon a nearly empty town. As he worked his way through he say two men leading a flock of people, who seemed to be rather dull and out of it. One man was wearing pure black armor that looked kind of odd, and the other looked like a circus jester clad in dull colors. He watched them go from building to building, laughing, fighting, and returning with a few more listless followers. He watched from the rooftops, enjoying the show, until he saw a large man sneaking about that was about to drop a huge axe on the armor clad man’s head. He dropped from a roof and killed the large man, astonishingly saving the armored man’s life. The armored man liked him, and invited him to join in on the merriment. He later identified himself as Alabaster, and told Shadow of his plans, offering Shadow a respectable position. The idea of how much fun he could have, and the power, was sufficient enough for him to pledge allegiance to Alabaster, and now take on the role of executioner to all that oppose him.

I hope that it was worth the wait. And Gibbon is an old character of mine, that happens to find his way into most of my campeigns as some sort of cameo. Probably my favorite character that I've made.

Entirely worth the wait, it's exquisite, and Gibbon certainly sounds very interesting.

I have my cameo-character too, Blue Jester, because every world needs a Blue Jester, be it for moral support, guidance, assistance, or just plain mystique :P

Well, it's 7 weeks until Alabaster concludes his initial plot to take over Beldor, so I guess I'll post the details of his Senary plot, to be used later on:

Step 1 – BroShaCho all assume new identities, Slav Asratable-Robin, Shaw Arkodd, and Echo Curlent, and apply for positions in the Dead-Nick Squad.
Step 2 – Acquire personal possessions of the subordinate Dead-Nicks and plant them in the rooms of the senior members:
Rebecca’s favourite doll is planted in Arthur Binkatsu’s room
Leonid Nikolai’s family bracelet is planted in Sieghard Le’Morde‘s room
Dench’s coin purse is planted in Shadow Kami’s room
Step 3 – Question the decisions of the senior members behind their backs “Now, why would Mr. Binkatsu always pick the biggest targets for himself? Doesn’t he think any of us are capable?” etc.
Step 4 – In the guise of other members, as well as unrelated people, begin to spread rumours about the senior members.
Arthur Binkatsu is secretly a child molester, so stole Rebecca’s doll as a memento
Sieghard Le’Morde is a charlatan and a thief, concerned only with how much loot he can get from a heist.
Shadow Kami is a degenerate gambler, so stole Dench’s coin purse when he needed to pay off debtors.
Step 5 – Start spreading rumour between the senior members
Arthur Binkatsu is secretly planning to off Shadow Kami to take control of his subordinates
Sieghard Le’Morde plans to steal all the wealth of the Dead-Nick Squad overnight, then sail off in his ship to evade capture
Shadow Kami plans to frame Sieghard Le’Morde for a robbery in the Beldor Main Bank, then rob it himself while everyone is looking over their shoulders at him
Step 6 – Stage robberies of items from the senior members to other senior members, to instil distrust between them, as with Step 2
Step 7 – Final Stage – Alter the memories of members during the night to replicate events such as rape, molestation, and theft, to cause the entire infrastructure of the Dead-Nick Squad to break down, under explanations of repressed memories. Once the chain of command collapses, activate the Lockdown sequence and use the Sphere of Annihilation to destroy every one of them in turn, altering memories with each one to make it seem that Morganth Stormcrow is killing everyone.
Step 8 – Shut off the Lockdown, stumble out of the headquarters and collapse on the street, covered in blood and apparently wounded. Tell the Guards that Morganth Stormcrow attacked you and that everyone inside is dead.
Step 9 – Walk away into the shadows, and prepare to take power once again, free of interference.

Result: Everyone in the Headquarters is dead, and Morganth Stormcrow is a heavily wanted man, whilst BroShaCho get off Scot free, ready to worm their way into power again.

And lastly, his final scheme, the Denary Plot, which will end all competition forever:

Denary Plot – Alabaster invisibly gains control of all countries on Einderseod
Step 1 - Alabaster travels to Elysium, and to an overgrown area of forest. He locates a specific gravesite, and revives the entombed as a Skeleton, which he then transforms to their former incarnation, mostly.
Step 2 - The entombed creature, Dimerhet Nussulheim, is implanted into both Wyliath and Kogudo, the homes of the Elf and Dwarf monarchy, and takes control of Queen Eleftheria and King Luovik into her power in order for her to make her way in. Over the next few months, she is repeatedly seen discussing philosophy and politics with the two, and generally getting on well with everyone.
Step 3 - After 2 months, Eleftheria and Luovik both announce that Dimerhet will succeed them on the throne, in place of their heirs, believing that she is a greater leader than anyone they have ever met, including themselves. A few weeks later, they both commit suicide.
Step 4 - Dimerhet is inserted into the Cairo Republic as an outside spectator. Her views on the necessity of a united commonwealth of countries, as well as the control of 12 of the 16 council members, has her quickly promoted to Lady Dimerhet of Cairo.
Step 5 - Dimerhet approaches the Republic of the Wind and asks them to join her new commonwealth. A blanket charm monster, mass ensures that they all vote to enter, and she is proclaimed the Lady of the Wind
Step 6 - Dimerhet arrives in Olympia, and her presence sparks off stories of the ‘fabled ruler’ amongst the religious groups of Athena and Nike (Secretly controlled as Bleak Ones), and representatives on the main council vote her to lead Olympia and join the commonwealth. A week later, two temples of Athena and Nike are destroyed in fire.
Step 7 - A small group of ships travels to the isolated Midgard Island, and Dimerhet successfully defeats Grundursk the Bloody, gaining control of Midgard by right of strength. Midgard is added to the commonwealth.
Step 8 - Dimerhet and the commonwealth approach the Ministers of Beldor and ask that they join. With a 6-8ths vote, Beldor joins the commonwealth.
Step 9 - Dimerhet calls forth the primary representative of each member country to decide on a matter of grave importance. She asks that they present her with full, total, and absolute control of all their countries via the commonwealth. After threats from Dark Shadow and control from Uncle Chortle, they finally decide the matter is passed. Alabaster now controls all the super power countries of Einderseod.

The greatest evil, is a grand scheme hidden under the guise of a noble cause

FINAL STEP – 10 – Implement the BR-1 Act. All Adventurers are to report to Trinity Island Northwest of Bermuda Isle. There they will be given supplies for 3 days each and a single weapon. If there is not just 1 person left alive on the Island by the end of the 3 days, all die. If any attempt to escape the Island, all die. This is ensured through the use of Adamantine bracelets containing bestow curse, greater set to reduce Constitution to 1, combined with delayed blast fireball, as well as comprehend languages. If the bracelets are tampered with, the effect activates immediately.

I've not had a chance to read through everything that you ahve put up. With the job that I got a couple months ago, and not having my computer the last 2 weeks and playing catch up. But from waht I've gleamed it seesm that you have an amazingly intricate plot. Which may be the undoing. You know what he's going to do, and how to get around the players to have it done. So they have no clue that anything is going on, and stuff is just goin to keep dropping on them. There is no room for them to derail his plots.

like I said,I haven't read it all, so I may be missing much of it.

alos as far as step 10 goes If there is a caster and a rouge in the group all they have to do is know antimagic field, cast that and have the rouge pick the locks and get out and then wait for the field to wear off.

Well, I've purposefully engineered it so that they play a strong role in his plot too. After all, what better way for a villain to operate than to use the party to do the work for him? Every single session is an opening for them to expose and ruin his plot, the problem comes in the fact that most of them are already planecidal...

And, unfortunately, that would count as tampering ;) For example, when Karsus temporarily destroyed the Weave and with it all magic, every single contingency spell on Aumvor the Undying went off, despite the absence of magic.
