| kmfrank01-06-07, 06:13 PM | Quite a few years ago, I played an enjoyable game where my halfling character really enjoyed playing practical jokes on the other characters. I thought this could turn into a list of fun practical jokes to play on characters that would give some ideas to anyone who likes this idea. Anyway, here are some of the ones I did. 1. While in a tavern filled with mages, spread a rumor that my party's wizard's staff (just a wooden quarterstaff, since we were 3rd level) was actually a long-lost artifact of great power. It has the power to mask its natural abilities and hide the evil of its bearer. It holds many powers, and the mages might need to be clever to obtain the staff. 2. After obtaining a scroll of "Enlarge", I used Use Magic Device" to cast it on food being eaten by our druid. 3. The BBEG had an "Amulet of Protection from Good" that I had fun with before we sold it - I slipped it inside our fighter's backpack right before our meeting with the High Priest of Lathander (LG deity of FR) 4. After I took a few levels in wizard and got illusion spells, things got even better: Every time our cleric went to his deity's temple, I inscribed "Property of the Nine Hells" on his armor. He had never gotten Dispel Magic since our Wizard got it, and he soon regretted that omission. 5. My pride and joy was this last one, which did nearly end in my character's death (he actually did die soon after, in a nasty scuttle with a Great Wyrm black dragon whose name he mispronounced "Styx-breath"). I arranged to have a chap dress up as an imperial messenger in a city ruled by a Queen renowned for her beauty and arcane might, as well as her temper. The messenger delivered to our ranger (Aragorn-esque charm and all) the following letter: "Dear Brave Warrior, I have heard great tales of your exploits. When you entered town the other day, I disguised myself and went down to observe you. I find your reputation and appearance extremely exciting. The King is away on business and I would like to invite you to secretly spend the night with me at the keep. if you are interested, get past the main guards and come to the keep tomorrow night. To ensure that we are not detected, I have informed my personal guards of what is going on. They are bound to me and will not reveal anything. When you approach the keep, tell the guards, "I am Aramil, and I have come from across the lands to show the queen my charmed long staff. Where are her chambers?" They will resist you; it is part of the plan. You must resist forcefully - it is the only way they will know it is you, for no one can match your might. Be obscene and verbally degrading when you speak about me, it will tell them it is you, for no one has the courage to speak against me. No matter what they say or do, resist. They will then lead you to my room, where we may spend the evening together. I look forward to seeing you again, Queen Alahra" To the player's credit, he took the bait hook, line, and sinker, and with his Ranger's abilities easily snuck past the main guards (this Zelda-esque scene) and made it to the Queen's inner sanctum. Hilarity ensued, and a massive battle where the guards (10, I believe) flayed him to within an inch of his life. He was then tortured and set to be executed, and we had to rescue him. One of the most memorable of any campaign moments. |

Is there a substance that /begs/ to be used by pranksters more? What can't be sovereign glued? Sovereign Glue a teacup to the paladin's armor. Sovereign Glue all the blank pages of a wizard's spellbook together. Sovereign Glue the annoying party member's inn door closed. Sovereign Glue the fighter's sword into its sheath. Sovereign Glue a platinum coin to the floor in the rogue's room and watch him pry up a floorboard to get to it. etc. etc. |

| RorixBladewing01-09-07, 11:23 PM | This was one I was just able to play on the elf in our party. I, being a bigot half-orc and the only one who spoke draconic, told our elf to be a distraction. I told him to yell 'something' in draconic as he ran past the kobolds. The 'something' was: "Mommy! DOn't let the scary kobolds get me! Help!" Man, we're gonna have fun with him. |
| Amsacaia01-10-07, 01:58 PM | I haven’t gotten any D+D practical jokes to tell of, but in a d20 future game I managed to convince our tough hero (who finds a way to use explosives no matter what the setting is), that the best way to get into the vault in the space station would be to blow the door up. So he did along with half the corridor he was in. 3/4 of the party died to the hard vacuum (the other two members being the lucky ship guards), but it was worth it. He hasn’t used explosives in any of our games since then. |
| TrashCrap01-10-07, 02:42 PM | My main character is a near epic rogue-type. I sneak in and replace things as practical jokes. |
| Tjuk01-11-07, 03:29 AM | If your party has someone with a pet and you happen to be someone to do minor illusion tricks, it might be fun to do what i did..... So i had a halfling ranger in my party, he just happen to have a cat as a pet which he picked up somewhere during our campaign. So after awhile, we were sitting around a camp fire and i was just playing some small pranks around it, changing his dear little Spanksy into uhm a big pink lion, which growled like a dragon. It totally freaked my comrad out. I thought his pet was like possesed by demons, and spend the whole night just constantly checking what his oh so precious pet was doing :) |
| TheChilliGod01-11-07, 01:56 PM | Ah, now my own halfling rogue's best practical joke was a collaborative effort. I got some help from an IC thread on these boards, in exchange for a hunk of mastodon meats. Select your target, and select something of much importance to them (sword, spellbook, symbol, and so on). Get to a nice, outdoorsy area with plenty of cover. Forests are most preferable. Camp for the night. Steal the item during your night-watch. Give it to your acquaintance (who must be a druid capable of wild shaping and casting really flashy spells). The acquaintance will then move to a spot far enough away from where the party is, and prepare. When the target discovers his item's missing, offer to help them look for it. Don't let any other party members follow you. Lead target to spot where acquaintance is, and send them ahead to the acquaintance. If they ask you to come with, start off with them, but slink away The acquaintance will, by this time, be surrounded with really flashy spells (dancing lights & faerie fire do well for the low-level types; just think around those lines) and be wild-shaped into a respectable animal (wolf or bear or something like that). The acquaintance will return the item to the target as they approach, along with his blessings upon the target as if from a "great spirit of the forests." When the target returns, and tells their tale, laugh in their face, and then tell the rest of the party members that the target's been having a bit too much ale, weed, his own spell components, whatever seems best. Profit. For a very, very long time, if possible. Bring it up during dinners with the king, during business deals with guard-captains, even during overland travels. |
