| Demonwolf02-04-06, 11:53 AM | 1. Halfling wolfrider: this halfling once heard the call of mother Yondalla herself, and it has compelled him to take up a spear with which to guard his clan and kin as their wagons move through the valleys where the spirits roam. While he seems exhausted from days of trekking, he jolts into energy and action when danger threatens his family, and strikes like deadly lightning from the back of his wolf companion. 2. White Shadow: this knight dangerously plays at the edge of the lawful alignment with his sneaking, trickery and mischief, but will never lose his holy strength, for his god knows that he and his underground rebels are some of the few who will still unwaiveringly hold up his code in the lands of cruel tyrants. A servant of Ilmater, the god of the poverty-stricken and suffering, he serves his faith with skill, slashing down those who stand in his way with a rapier blade from the back of his white horse. However, he oft questions his own life, wondering whether he should keep fighting a tyrant whose power never seems to fade and whether to keep serving those so downtrodden that they will not serve themselves. 3. Servant of Corellon: This elf is true to the woodlands and the will of his fey god, and is loved and respected by elves everywhere. While most paladins embody the knight in shining armor with sword and shield, he fights with endless skill in the arts of the bow and with light armor that allows him to glide lightly through the battlefield. Very few of these brave warriors live to the natural end of their days, but most that do have many sad guests at their funeral. 4. Drow Sword-dancer: A holy warrioress who fights for the freedom of those few dark elves who can walk the path of good, she is a whirlwind of death with a pair of elven-crafted longswords that whirr and whistle the song of the silver-haired goddess. 5. Sophisticated Savage: This warrior of usually half-orc but occasionally half-ogre blood surprises those around with his eloquence, grace, charm, and oddly often enough, good looks. He can afford to have them- he releases all the primal passion of his race in the heat of battle for the sake of good, battles that have earned him the wealth and prestige necessary to ascend to the position of noble lord. He is perhaps the finest of the fine and noblest of lords, because even in the highest of courts, he retains primal sincerity and is true to his inner nature, in a world of dark politics where malice and greed build up because the strict rules and manners of the king's court allows them no outlet. 6. The Visionary - Like the historical Joan d'Arc, this character receives direct guidance from her diety in the form of visions, even though she is not part of her religion's hierarchy. In fact, such a character could be in opposition to her diety's church if the institution is corrupt. Alternately, this character could be a "chosen one" of her faith who is fated to a divinely-ordained fulfill a mission such as re-uniting rival factions of a church against a greater enemy, leading her faith's warriors against those of a rival religion, etc, 7. The Undead Destroyer - This character sees themselves as a simple professional, but is fuelled and empowered by their deep, personal piety. Armed with mace, flaming sword, and holy water, this characters seeks out nests of the undead, and strikes suddenly, and finally, against the cancer of evil. 8. Outrider This paladin eschews the active pursuit of evil in the world to focus on preventing the forces of evil from preying on pilgrims en route to his deity's temple or holy site. He would patrol the roads from bandits and hordes of orcs, goblins, and the like while offering his services to pilgrims and wayfarers in need of protection and assistance. In a world with strife between religions he might also have to fend off attacks from the followers of rival gods. 9. the Last Bastion This paladin guards a temple, church, or holy site that is deep within enemy territory. This site may once have been part of his deity's holy land, but has be subsequently invaded by a hostile race or rival religious order. Now that the site is cut off from aid, the paladin and his allies are the last bastion protecting his deity's interests. The paladin may be in command of the limited forces that stand with him, or he may be part of a group with a communal interest in preserving the site. 10. Neurotic Paladin This paladin is very devoted to their cause and their code of conduct. However, their exposure to the real world, possibly as the result of traveling with a group of adventures has exposed them to worldly temptation. Because of this, they have become obsessed with the possibility that they will lose controll and give in to their baser desires. They try to avoid temptation, but their devotion to their cause inevitably pushes them out into the real world. This internal conflict threatens to drive them crazy. 11. Healer Paladin This paladin fights evil through healing rather than violence. Although they still posess substantial combat training, they use it mostly in self-defense. They wade into battles not to fight a foe but to heal the fallen, facing any risk to try to save a life. When they are healing someone, that person is under thier protection, and they will never give a patient over to someone who wants to harm them. 12. Paladin of Nature This former druid has decided to take up the cause of nature. Using honorable means, they take the fight to those who threaten the natural world. They view nature as a force for good and a thing of beauty. However, they sometimes choose to ignore the savage and harsh aspects of nature. 13. Paladin of Justice This paladin focusses on fighting crime and bringing criminals to justice. They view themselves as agents of the law, which they view as just and fair. They love to be viewed as symbols of peace and order, and are always willing to help the citizens of areas that they protect. 14. Oathbound Paladin This paladin has made a bargain with their patron deity. They needed the power of a paladin, often to gain revenge on someone who has done them a great wrong. They follow the paladin's code of conduct, not necessarily because they believe in it personally, but because they feel that they owe a debt of honor to the deity who helped them in their time of need. 15. Patron Paladin This paladin does not fight evil in general, but rather fights evil by being the protector of a perticular group of people, usually a group that faces perticular persecution or hardship. Unfortunately, this leaves them at a disadvantage when faced by a threat that comes from the very group they are sworn to protect. 16. Crusading General This paladin fights wars for their patron deity. They do not limit themselves to combat and magic, but also develop their skills in negotiations, tactics, and leadership. They dream of leading great armies into battle to defeat the enemies of their god. 17. Preacher This paladin thinks that the best way to fight evil is by preaching for their patron deity, getting others to worship that deity and support their cause. They will never convert people by force, but will often bargain for belief, solving people's problems to gain more support for their god. Their struggles against evil are also dramatic demonstrations of their deity's power. 18. Wise old knight: this knight, past his prime but still in fighting shape, has learned that there are as many great demon of the mind as there are of the flesh, and looks into himself far more, to find the meaning of his faith- after all, to enforce the word of the gods, shouldn't one know the truth of it? While they are more than willing to take up arms, these knights are men and women of intellect, wisdom and charisma, who prefer to manipulate things behind the political and military scenes and shift the workings of the well-oiled cogs of godly creation, allowing nature- human or otherwise- to take its course. 19. Ray: a slang term with a double meaning used to refer to those seafaring crusaders- sailors, sea elves and the like- who uphold the word of their god with spear in hand, they shine as rays of light and beacons of hope, but they can also sting with the cold, deadly skill of the ocean predators for which they are named. The passionate fire of the crusading knight seems to escape the hearts of these warriors, for they are at the depth of their souls marine creatures, and their struggle for good comes from the echo of the sorrowful song of the sea. 20. Lightshifter: while this knight's code is in full accordance with the will of his god, he has forsaken the martial ways of his kind and instead opted for the reality-shifting ways of the wizard, after basic training in the paladin's way. While he can still lay-on-hands and smite evil, his mind and heart, the mind and heart of thinker, tinker, and trickster, lie with the dusty tomes. He proudly wields a sword with the emblem of his deity and oft stores spells within it. |
| HammerHeart8102-04-06, 10:24 PM | 21.Dark Exorcist This Paladin isn't the typical "knight in shinning armor" as he battles the dark forces of supernatural that sends his mind to the brink of sanity. He specializes in fighting occurences of supernatural rather it's a haunting or the horde of the undead taking over the city. Many see him as spooky or recluse but an honorable and devout spook. |
| bassist3333302-05-06, 05:48 PM | 22. Chaotic "Vigilante" Paladin Believes that anyone who commits crimes should be punished accordingly, and sets out to punish those who've wronged anyone. Most likely elven, woships Corellon Laerethon (sp??). 23. Ex-Blackguard Whereas many Blackguards are "fallen paladins" this is the opposite. A "Fallen Blackguard" of sorts. They have done much evil in their life and would like to un-do everything they've done before in a "My Name Is Earl" like way (creating a list of wrongdoings and setting them right). |
| Baerdog702-05-06, 06:42 PM | 24. The Reluctant, World-Weary Paladin This paladin, usually past his prime, has seen it all. He has fought in countless wars on the Material Plane and the Lower Planes against the forces of evil. All he wants know is to settle down and have peace, but he can't escape the call to help those in need. -Baerdog7 |
