3.5 Oriental heavy setting. I decided to be a sorcerer. Being a 1st level Sorcerer just screams young, so I decided to try to be as young as I thought I could get away with. Please read it all the way if possible, I think you'll like it. Here we go.

Toshiro was an orphan in a big city. He was placed in an orphanage, but by the time he was 8 his powers were readily apparent to him. He tried to hide it best he could, and went to the local library to see what he could find out (Orphanage was just really a place to eat and have a roof over your head, so Toshiro was used to taking care of himself). He confided in the young new librarian who turned out to be an apprentice wizard. She helped him with basic magic theory and knowlage (gotta justify those ranks in spellcraft and knowlage Arcana). He also meet a stray cat when he was young, which he fed and it wouldn't leave him alone after that. Like most orphans who never knew his parents, he was quite lonely, so he kept the cat as a pet and named it Neko. When the Librarian saw his pet, she told him about familiars and soon, he and Neko were Sorcerer and Familar. He soon decided it was time to go of on his own. He wasn't gaining anything by just staying around the orphange. He had a gift, he had to try to use it. So with a good-bye to the Librarian, he set out to make his way in the world, still at a mere 13, having no family, and no real freinds other then the librarian and Neko...
He met up with a rather angry professional fighter and a seemingly cold but beuitiful Elf Assassin, despite his child-like behavior and super cuteness, he was soon a part of this group, and he began to think, maybe he had found a family...

This is where things get whacky. Because of his age and inexperience, the binding with his familar was a bit...off. Usually the cat is simply an extention of his mind, but this time, while they are linked, Neko is very much herself, but she was "awakened". With this intellagence and her empathic link with Toshiro, she began to realise things. She realised that Toshiro was just a child, while she an adult (adult cat anyway). Furthermore, she saw how despratly lonely poor Toshiro was. She stopped seeing him as her "master" and more like a lost kitten without a mother....her heart went out to poor Toshiro, because she to knew the pain of being all alone, so she decided to take him in as her own. To be the Big Sister/Mother he despratly wanted. There was just two problems....

Problem 1. Shes a Cat. Toshiro cares deeply for Neko, shes his "bestest freind" but Neko wants to take care of Toshiro, not vice versa. She realises the best way to do this is to become human. And the best way to do that? Well....Toshiro IS a sorcerer isn't he?

Problem 2. The Elf. Duiing this time, Toshiro has become quite attached to the beuitiful elf assassin, and sees her as his big sister, the position Neko despratly wants. Furthermore, she sees right through the Elf. She knows that this "Assassin" is trained to approach everything unemotionally and will sell poor toshiro out for a pack of cigarettes. (What she doesn't know is the elf is also an orphan and is quickly becoming fond of dear toshiro. Hey, shes still a CAT ok?) Neko begins plotting, both some way to gain power to protect toshiro and a way to "get rid" of the threat to her charge...by any means nessicary. The link being two ways, toshiro senses the animosity Neko has for the elf, but figures she just needs time to get to know her..after all, shes a Cat, right? (hey, hes a KID)

Well, what do you think? Not to shabby huh? The familar is just as much an active part of the character then...well the character itself. It would be especially interesting to see Neko be tempted by evil...if something ever read her mind and offered her what she wanted..if she delivered the bothersome Assassin and Fighter to him, or had Toshiro do some work for him. Or perhaps her affections will become a bit to real and when human, might have a romantic relationship with Toshiro. Or perhaps, she'll hijack some of toshiros power and become a human, changing back and forth in secret. Thats just a sample of the insane possibilties that may spring from this.

Everybody, give a warm welcome to Angry Fighter #2...quite a session, no? I must admit, I didn't think anyone from the campaign (other then the DM, who i linked to inform her of my devious plans) would read this and find out about my devious plans(sorry for saying it twice, its just so devious)....now that you know, you to must die at the paws of Neko....AHAHAHAHA...HA...haha...ha...ha?

Truthfully, I'm usually not into playing super cute characters, but I don't believe in doing anything half way...how am I doing?

Hmmm, how'd "she" end up reading "he" there? :thinks: Chalk it up to still not getting any sleep, I guess.

Anyway, Toshiro and Neko are... odd. The clinging to Lillian makes a bit more sense having read this, though. As for the whole, familiar thinking it's taking care of the master rather than the other way around thing, I've seen it happen before a couple different ways, though not this particular spin on it. Interesting, and could be fruitful. As for the temptation and weird interspecies attraction possibilities, hey, if it ain't weird it ain't D&D, right?

As a cat, I wouldn't find Neko particularly believable, but as an awakened creature with a familiar link, it works. From what I've seen thus far, Toshiro has potential to be a pretty richly RPed and believable character, though the pacing of the first session didn't lend itself to much roleplay, due to being a dungeon crawl. We'll have to see how things develop when we're not rushing to find trapped miners and get out with our lives.

Oh, and it's Arkus, not Angry Fighter #2. :P I really need to develop him a bit more when I've got the time and coherence to do so, I didn't know up until the last minute whether or not I'd be involved with the game, so he was kinda a rush job.
