| Hyrax01-31-08, 03:42 PM | So I'm making a lvl 12 build barbarian 2/druid 4/stormlord 5. Story line idea I have so far is that he grew up with an Ogre tribe, was beaten and abused (as if in an alcoholic parent type household). Constantly abused and beaten he's a bit insane. Somehow he gets struck by lightning magical or not... not sure yet... And that becomes the catalyst, perhaps, to becoming a druid... any ideas to fill in the blanks or other rp ideas would be greatly appreciated. |
| CrimsonDeath01-31-08, 04:18 PM | Isn't Half-Ogrea +2 LA? You have 11 class levels, which makes the character ECL 13, so he's not level 12 by any definition. Anyway, I can see how a half-ogre would be mistreated, especially if he grew up among ogres (an idea I almost used for a character of my own). It might be worth considering how the people around your character reacted to his acquisition of Druidic power. Did he earn their respect? Did he eventually use his spellcasting abilities to take revenge on them? Or did he just leave, seeking acceptance elsewhere? |

That sparked the titan blood within him( I was thinking of giving him the titan bloodline feat from unearthed arcana). He felt new power coursing through his veins, but became more and more unstable and unable to control it. As his power developed his mind wandered... How's that sounding? |
| Terjon of the Blue Rose02-01-08, 07:24 AM | It sounds a little, well, weak. I don't mean to be insulting its just not a very strong connection. Struck by lightning means a tie to nature? I would instead consider seeing a powerful warrior of the tribe or even chief struck down by lightning. This teaches you that nature beats even the strongest and you begin to venerate it. You call out and acheive a tie to Talos (or other appropriate storm god) and through devotion and dedication acheive your power. Also the 1/2 ogre is listed in races of destiny I believe. savage species is 3.25 at best and I get a vague feeling that many barely recognize it as D&D. |

Keep in mind that you don't need to determine your characters full personality and background before you make the character. Consult your DM, talk to other players and so on. My half-orc ranger / barbarian was ditched by his human mother in a forest when she was supposed to kill him under orders of the state (why the state didnt do it themselves is a mystery :D I guess its like austin powers getting out of dr evils poorly designed death traps). He was taken in by a pack of wolves and lived as such ferally till his teenage years around which he was encountered by a group of human scouts from said kingdom who proceeded to kill the wolves in the process of trying to capture and kill him. He escaped and exacted his revenge on them after they had set for camp. As orc skirmishers were later trekking through those parts on their way to a raid on the surrounding villages they discovered him and thought it odd for him to be running round in the woods without no clothes being unable to speak. But they found the dead humans and saw the fresh scars and decided its best to not kill him. Took him back to the tribes. It was decided that this was the lost son of the great raider who united the tribes from their squabbles against the humans which had violated trade agreements wi thseveral tribes to take advantage of the squabbling and snatch up more land. From this I can reason easily that the roots of the ranger come from living for more than a decade in the forests with wolves, the barbarian comes from not having been introduced to anything remotely resembling civilization for the same time period, and witnessing his pack slain for merely being in the way which could easily inspire one to a "blood frenzy". Both of these were capitalized on by the orcs in varying capacities. Humans found out that he still lived and executed his ma'. His favored ranger enemy of human makes good sense and his desired choice of companion as a wolf makes sense too. His alignment is CN which to me makes good sense considering amoral upbringings in the wild. He didn't quite share the orcs love of arbitrary violence, but by the time he could "reason" more deeply he saw their overtly physical power oriented society to be more "honest" than of the highly civilized human society with all the social intrigue. His charisma is 4 from scars and not living among humanoids for so damn long, not to mention battle scars and hanging out with orcs for a while. This could also help with his dislike of social intrigue. He's sh1tty at it! He also likes raw uncooked meat, the thrill of a good battle or hunt, and wandering around enjoying the bush. He's not the leader, but he doesn't take orders and doesn't help the party out if he thinks they are doing something stupid. He did some time as a swamp guide and made friends with a druidess who taught him how to crudely interact with animals without frightening them off entirely with his orc stench(low cha), as well as the basics of naturalistic magics. The rest is to be made up as I continue. He may take a fear of death and a greater hatred of undead since he's already died three times in the course from 7th to 8th level. Or having died as a half orc and being reincarnated back as an orc paragon he may irrationally believe that he has the favor of Gruumsh propelling him forward at all times. In what ways is your character insane? I could easily see the trauma of a lightning bolt itself bringing on mania / bipola or similar things. Maybe the druids blasted him as part of a test to see if he could part of their order? Not only did he survive but he now has the extreme variance and unpredictability of natures forces. I'd add in some dependent / neediness stuff from being beat up and left for dead. You could usually be a fearless fury, but sometimes a big whimpering lug who needs the approval of those around him. |
