| heinzk2311106-02-04, 06:08 PM | All, Looking for some help. I will be joining a FR campaign soon and need to come up with a background before rolling and creating the character. (DM wants to fit in my enemies, and background to group). I was thinking 1/2 Orc Fighter/Sorcerer concentrating more on Sorcerer after discovering his talent later than most. I envision a Attacking style of magic using "Rage of the Arcane" as a feat (basically a rage for 1/2 Orc spell casters). And swordplay (Bastard Sword or Falchion) for straight up mele. I want him to look more human than Orc but when you look more than casully at him you immediately know (underbite with Tusks, coarse black hair in topknot, tatoos, slightly pointed ears, but no body hair). Dress maybe a little like a Djinn (bare chested, loose pants)I will take skills in Intimidate, knowledge Arcana, Spell craft...(I'm hoping to convince the DM to allow the following racial mods Str:+2, Int: -2) I'm struggling with the background. Do I have him come from an Orcish background or human settlement. We will be adventuring in the Daggerford region and we are only able to be from the Waterdeep, Sword coast, Western heartlands, North,a nd 1/2 Orc regions. Any ideas?? |

| heinzk2311106-04-04, 08:42 PM | I've decided to have this character be from the Western Heartlands. Raised by humans. Born to a woman who was taken for ransom by Brigands run by a 1/2 Orc. She was raped before the bounty paid. Her father was the lord of a keep protecting a small hamlet in the heartlands. He had the 1/2 orc hunted down and killed. However the family couldn't bring themselves to do away with the baby (He did after all have at least half of the family bloodline). They treated him as the dirty little secret and he was basically raised a s a servant in the keep. His mother would teach him read/writing and be as close as he had to family albeit rather distant. He learns fighting skills in the keep militia. when his sorcerous talent awakens he decides to strike out on his own. At this time his mother tells him the family had a Sorcerer ancester i the Dales (before the family moved to the Heartlands) and that there was rumors that a far back unknown ancestor my have been a dragon. This piques my characters interest as he has had dreams where he is a dragon flying over the mountains, breathing a acid breath to vanquish foes. So he strikes out to learn his abilities and find out anything about sorcery. What do you all think? I was also thinking of adding a step father who married his mother when he was young and created the servant stature for him. A half younger brother who is arrogant always trying to make this character out to bad and have him removed from the family keep. |

If you wanted, you could take a prestige class called Dragon Disciple, and then choose the patron dragon that had the acid breath (im drawing a blank on which one that is exactly, maybe black? green?) and you start to evolve into a dragon-like person, which could (depending on your DM's creativity) could even lead you into more and more dragon information, and maybe more insight into where the sorcery comes from in your bloodline. Its not totally out of the realm of possibility that your ancestral dragon could still be alive, perhaps even keeping tabs on your character for some reason. The other thing I think you could really play up is the half brother who hates you. You could have him be your polar opposite, whereas you may be more magical and less melee, he could be more melee and less magical. He could be constantly plaguing you, especially if you are out of the direct protection of your mother. Play him up as the guy who always tries to make your life miserable, and pretty much has no life outside of yours. Whether he's a behind the scenes menace, discrediting you to people in power, or if he's an in your face thug, that can make for a very cool villain if he lives long enough, and especially if he is such a pain that your party just aches to separate his head from his body. Gotta make sure that your DM doesn't allow them to do so right away, and that the half-brother always seems to have some sort of "escape pod" to save himself. (if you've ever played the Baldur's Gate II and the Throne of Bhaal expansion, think of that guy Saemon Havarian who continues to mess you over and you never get teh chance to put him down once and for all.) The Dragon Disciple is in the DM's guide i think. Very nice start! |
| heinzk2311106-06-04, 12:30 PM | Thank you Rudysseus, I was thinking about the Dragon desciple already which is why I threw it in there. (it's in the Wizard/sorcerer specialty book, what's the name oh soo many to remember). And I like what you are saying about the Half-brother. I was thinking him of being a lord to be in the family keep. All others keeping my character out of the running because of the Orcish heritage! I think I have a good starting point and your comments encourage me. Thanks again, HeinzK |
