Ok, havent got a name for this guy yet, but he is a character that i rolled up randomly from the back of PHB2, 'Dark' and 'Militant' traits and the 'Explorer' archetype.

This is what i have so far-

-He is only a 1/4 orc (3 parts human, 1 part orc) as his father was a half orc himself. Im just using the half-orc race here, as i read in the half elf entry that not all half elves are actually 'half' elven.

-He was forced into a militia by a wandering hobgoblin army at an early age and spent the next several years of his life in a sort of 'never ending boot camp' where he was drilled and trained day after day.

-Under the rule of the hobgoblin army, he was forced to fight enemies that werent his own, and for reasons that werent his own either. He was trained to be a forward scout, used for recon and pre-emtive stirkes against foes.

-By the age of 21 he figured out how to escape with several others, though they all died during the escape. He made his way to the nearsest town and told the guards men of the hobgoblins location, numbers and strength. With this info, after a few days the guardsmen managed to gather a large enough force to take out the entire hobgoblin army.

-For his hand in the defeat of the hobgoblin army, he was excused for his crimes against the land that he was in, but was told to leave and never return.

-With his skills in travelling untaimed territories alone, he found work as a guide in a neighbouring kingdom. But soon discovered that certain people paid better for unknown lands to be mapped. Now he uses his skills to travel into areas in which nobody has ever been before, map them as well as list possible threats, such as natural hazzards and creatures/people that would be considered dangerous.

Thats the basic outline of the characters history, as for his personality its pretty much as follows-

-His years in the army (although he hated them) have given him strict self discipline. He is a very serious person, never taking part in jokes or pranks, and has little time for small talk. Every day he follows the same routine, tend to all weapons at the start of the day and exercise before each and every meal.

-He never talks of what he had to do in the hobgoblin's army, if asked about his past, he simply said he was in the military and fought in several wars.

-He has serious trust issues, and has a strict '1 strike and your out' policy. If someone betrays him, he will never trust them again. If this happens to be a party member, he wont help them in a fight, and will fight as though they arnt involved (cover an exit they are covering, for example, for he belives they wont be able to do it properly)

-He is very tactically minded, analysing each and every situation (combat or not) before he gets involved. In game terms this means he will sit back for the first round to get the best initiative.

-As a quirk he will never ride a horse. Back in the army, when they fell on hard times, the militia was forced to eat their mounts. He never felt right aboutit when he was forced into riding them after that, now that he free, he refuses to.

As for his physical desription, he has some sort of brand or tattoo on his body, showing that he was part of the hobgoblins militia force. He looks more human than orc, albet somewhat of a primitive and neaderthall human. His limbs are long and well muscled and his teeth, although human in size and set, are pointed, as are his ears. His hair is red and cut into the standard modern day 'marine' hair cut (think black hawk down).

Thats the basics of the character, what do you all think? Any advice or ideas would be great.

Ps: He will be true neutral, he doesnt want to save the day, or be important, he just wants to be free.

Peace

Mabye let some of the fellow prisoners that he escaped with live? -This would be obvious plot hooks for your GM, and would make some interresting role-playing, as he/she/them will know about your "dark past"?

What is this character working towards? - You have an exiting backstory, and a good describtion of what his qualities are, but what are his goals? -to live his free (now) free life without a care? -to eventually settle down with a nice woman/orc? -get rich or die trying? (i know.. i know, im a bad person..:P) -Getting ultimate revenge on the hobgoblin race?

At the beginning of the game, he doesnt even know himself what he is working towards. He was trapped in the military life style for so long that he doesnt know any other way of life (hence he keeps up the strict routine).

So he just earns money for each new area he maps, but gets someone to hold it for him, since he doesnt really have any 'want' to spend it (unless its for reparing or replacing equipment).

Although he doesnt know what he wants, he sure as hell knows what he *doesnt* want, and thats to be trapped and forced to do things he doesnt agree with. Thus, he steers clear of any sort of organisation (cos that takes away his free will at times) and pretty much keeps his top priority of keeping his choices as open as possible.

So yeah, hes not really interested in a woman (though one ma come along) and gathering wealth isnt a goal for him either. Basically he is sort of floating around and the moment, with no real direction, though the possibility of finding one still remains.

Hope this answers a few things.

Chiers, any more comments?

Ps: I was thinking about a few of the other prisioners surviving, of course he doesnt know that. Theyd be pretty P.O. that he left them there to be captured (thinking that they were dead)

Anything else guys? Im kinda unsure about this character, and thinking of dropping it for a barbarian/berserker/frenzied berserker.

So yeah, any ideas on how to improve him would be sweet.
