Fifteen years ago, Joachim was born the second son of a well-to-do farmer from a small town in the western lands. Joachim never knew his mother as she died due to complications in childbirth and this incident sent his father into a deep depression. Though he had no predisposition towards violence and cruelty, his father took out his anger upon his youngest son. While he worked Joachim from dawn till dusk on the family farm, the eldest son, Joseph was treated like a prince. Luckily, his brother did stick up for him as he grew older when his father got out of line but Joachim knew he was meant for more then a farmers life.

Highly intelligent, Joachim felt out of place among the simpletons living in his small village and eventually found himself matching wits with a local eccentric who lived on the edge of town.

This strange man happened to be a bumbling wizard by the name of Simon who was surprised to discover Joachim’s lust for knowledge and intelligence having been born the son of a simple farmer. When Simon approached Joachim’s father in the hope of educating him in the arcane arts however, he flat out refused. Joachim was ten at the time and still had his whole life in front of him, a life his father planned to have him spend working for rest of his days. Dismayed by this, Simon bid him goodbye and went on his way, respecting the wishes of Joachim's father.

Joachim, however refused to accept such a fate and frequented Simon's home, begging the absent-minded wizard to take him on as an apprentice. He was turned down time and time again but he was persistant and a year later Simon gave in to the young man's pleadings. Joachim had suprisingly become even more brilliant over the course of these twelve months and had surpassed Simon in terms of potential.

It would have been a crime to subject such a mind to a simple farmers life and the wizard offered to educate Joachim in the arcane. His father was by no means going to accept it however, and shortly after Joachim began to learn magic he was confronted by his father. Putting his magic to good use, Joachim fought back and injured his father in self-defense. Deemed an outcast for what became known as a 'brutal assault' by the townsfolk, Joachim absorbed himself in magical study with Simon. Now he lives an isolated life in the hopes of finding acceptance through his art.

I've got to work on it but this is the basic idea.
Any advice, tips or critique?

When I generate a back ground I like to have a character in there that potentially could be a massive hook in a negative way.

EX: Simon is outcast from the village because he was grafting dogs to horses. The townsepeople don't know he was experimenting until he could try on ... humans ...
EX: Your character had a stuttering problem. Until he met Simon. Now the stutter is gone. But everytime he gets around a certian Town Drunk (an unknown warlock) his stutter comes back. And he has uncovered the Town Drunk in the most unusual places.
EX: His older brother was valiant, and ALWAYS stuck up for him. One time a bully of the town was picking on you, and his brother fought back. In the melee, the bully lost a leg and is now crippled. It's rather strange to have a Mayor/governer with only one leg ...

... something with more intense of a risk. Maybe the father would not only beat your character, but your mother ... and she finally left him. Now she (a powerful sorcerer) is in another village as a town sage.

Just ideas.

I appreciate that. Honest.
My 'brother' character is actually another PC who'll be playing a LG(Obviously) Paladin. Unfortunately my DM may not tollerate my writing a backstory for an NPC he created but I do need to work on my history a bit more. I'll post again when I revise it.
