Basically in my world part of the history is that 3000 years ago a powerful race of Wizards opened a few to many portals to the lower planes. Most of the Human, Elven and Dwarven civilisations were destroyed by marauding demons. The few survivors scattered to reclusive parts of the continent or managed to hide somewhere (Dwarves underground, Elves magically, Humans remote areas etc). The demons were eventually driven back to the abyss over the following 3000 years, although in some areas they have a higher incidence of Tieflings and half fiend creatures. One whole forest has a large number of fiendish Dire Bears for example. Anyways back on topic the race responsable for the portals (Darzhi) were wiped out by the demons. My storyline involves one of the last Sorceror Princes of the Darzhi putting alot of his subjects into Stasis where they get to wake up in my campaigns current storyline. Alot of these surviving Dharzhi are epic levels from a ancient civilisation that fell over 3000 years ago. So what do you think any such being (including any human or elf etc) would do after 3000 years of stasis do? In real life it would be like a ancient Sumerian/Egyptian or something waking up in todays world. In my world the tech level has actually gone backwards though. The Dharzi of old had a tech level say of 17th century Europe without firearms where my current age is around 400-1400AD tech level depending on location. As my campaign goes on I want to introduce the Darzhi as a player race (humanlike +2wis/Int skill bonus's etc +1 ECL). The PCs are also about to discover the Darzhi weren't as extinct as the world believed. In addition to the Darzhi waking up I've decided to add a hidden city of contempory Darzhi who have abandoned the old Darzhi ways and a handful of Liches/Vampires left over from the 3000 year old Demon Wars. In Forgotten Realms terms if it helps you could have an ancient elf come out of Stasis who lived during the Crown Wars for example- or a Netherise I suppose. |

They'd probably see themselves as the rightful 'obvious' rulers, particularly since technology has regressed, and would almost certainly react harshly to any suggestion otherwise. Or, on a completely different tack... The Darzhi could be filled with guilt and remorse for their role in allowing the demons in, and could dedicate themselves to protecting and serving the rest of the world's inhabitants. Or, they could do both, resulting in two rival factions of Darzhi struggling against each other. |

I think the ones waking up from stasis would recognise the folly of demon worship but would be dominating and see themselves as superior. Theres not really enough to conquer the world- maybe a small corner of it. Meanwhile the lich/vampire survivors will be trying to manipulate them back to the old ways (one of the Liches is the former emperor of their empire). |
