| Adrez Nesnsid03-10-07, 05:43 PM | 1.) Behaves like a rowdy rock star. Trashes their hotel rooms at inns; Is addicted to potions of Good Hope, etc. etc. etc. 2.) Artsy fartsy poet type. |
| Bard-of-all-trades03-11-07, 05:13 AM | 3) The Hippy Bard "Peace and love, man." Knows every protest song there is and a few no one has ever heard of. Folks confuse him (or her) with a druid because of lack of metal armor and nature-loving lifestyle. Wears tye-dyed cloaks and has long hair. Has Craft (alchemy) and Knowledge (nature) for the proper concoction of vegetation for the right psychodelic reaction. His stories are "far out" though hard to follow at times if you're not. 4) The Bugler This is the military bard that specializes in Perform (bugle) to signal the infantry and cavalry during combat. Follows the commanding officer everywhere, ready to sound the alarm and ready the troops at a moment's notice. Uses his abilities to bolster the troops and strengthen their resolve in battle by singing war hymns. During travel often times pounds out a lively tempo on the drum while singing of home and hearth to make the boys forget how tired they are of marching. |
| Jear7703-11-07, 03:23 PM | 5) Loresmith -- a bard who takes max ranks in every Knowledge there is 6) Rogue wanna be -- a bard who maxes out all the rogue skills 7) Spellsinger (this one is tricky) all sound based spells (you might want to look at Malhavoc Press' "Songs of Power & Might") 8) The charmer 'nuff said (charm spells, maybe a few levels of wiz or sor) 9) The lady's man -- this can be played seriously or as a foppish swashbuckler type 10) The Jester/ fool 11) The Acrobat bard (take levels in the PRC thief acrobat) 12) The Dirgist (perfect for dwarves) One close to it "The Bagpipe player" 13) The healer (bard who maxes ranks in healing, maytake the "divine" powering of the bard) 14) The Paladin Bard (or perhaps "holy bard" multiclassing with cleric instead)- charming, ladies man, but ultimately serious, for the church. 15) The ranger or druid bard -- not a hippie as discussed earlier, but someone who grew up with nature and wishes to protect it, while still having an artistic flair. They have their animal companions and may still play music to "entertain" nature. They also can act as mediators between monsters and the civilized world Hope these help :D |
| Jarllaxle03-11-07, 03:58 PM | Okay thats 15 and these are great, thanks keep it up, i'll keep on checking up on these, thanks again:rofl: |
| Arcade03-11-07, 09:44 PM | From movies: 16) Chaucer from "A Knight's Tale" 17) The main character in "13th Warrior" |
| Adrez Nesnsid03-11-07, 09:46 PM | 16.) How about a beat poet? 17.) failing that, how about a poet who beats people? 18.) A bard with a low wisdom score could be played like one of Sir Robin's minstrels. They just don't realize when it may be a good idea to stop singing and that some things weren't meant to be chronicled in song. Lyrics to Robin's Minstrels' Songs, etc. (http://www.mwscomp.com/movies/grail/g-lyrics.htm) 19.) crazy, emo, Phantom of the Opera wannabe. |
| Adrez Nesnsid03-11-07, 09:47 PM | just add +2 to the numbering from my last post. Me and Arcade must've posted at the same time. |
| ericSHINRA03-11-07, 11:35 PM | 21. 'V' A dark, brooding bard with a talent for eloquent speaches and a swashbuckler mentality. 22. Haruko Haruhara A vibrant, borderline insane, powerhungry Bard with a repeating crossbow built into her guitar and a knack for manipulating men of all ages. |
| Sands_Of_Chaos03-12-07, 12:02 AM | Oh wait, this is one of my favorite bard types: The wanderer He knows little of where he comes from or where he's going, and he holds almost no ties to his past. Mysterious songs from unknown origins and an entire archive of ramblings. |
| Jear7703-12-07, 02:40 PM | The "mystic bard" a character with levels of monk, ninja, samurai or shamman (or some combination thereof) and has myerious knowlege, strange beliefs, strange weapons, stunning attacks The savage bard, the only way for cultures who don't have a method of writing to keep their histories/ ledgends |

| Vicki Cadae03-14-07, 03:05 AM | The bard I'm playing now: 26. Chaotic Evil Drifts through life, using weapons to get her way- and considers her music to be a weapon. |
| ToxicWiz03-14-07, 04:57 PM | 27. The action hero. He can do it all, battle with swords, throw spells, sneak like a cat... and so their list goes on... Swinging on chandeliers or battling from swinging ropes a must. |
| Nyt04-01-08, 02:37 AM | Undead bard-vampire bard.... I am Nyt i have raised this thread -Nyt the Black, dread threadromancer |
| Heliomance04-01-08, 04:06 AM | 29: The Lord of the Dance (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=979511) |
| Mr_Seth04-01-08, 02:59 PM | 30. The burnout. Convinced that playing music is all he's good at, has a hard time concentrating. Spends inordinate amounts of time drunk. |
| Panartias04-03-08, 03:16 PM | 31. The yellow-press bard: usually female, reports all the high society gossip and comments on the love life and the dress sense of VIPs... 32. The master storyteller: most often a grandfatherly type, found in the marketplace surrounded by many children. 33. The good teacher - spin off from master storyteller. 34. The snake- charmer: Instrument flute/pipe and snake-familiar 35. The (evil) agitator: tells lies about good adventurers, ruining there reputation and sending angry mobs at them. 36. The Herold: expert in heraldry and nobility - wears a fancy official uniform. Reads public announcements, introduces visitors to the court and knights to the spectators at tournaments. Often equipped with fanfare a some pole-arm. 37. The tournament-sports-reporter (Herold spin off): "And the two combatants circle each other - sir Rodrick takes a wild swing with his great-sword - but the black knight blocks it with his shield and counters with a hardy bow of his battleaxe - catching good sir Rodrick in the helm - sir Rodrick seems disoriented - Rodrick is in trouble!!!" 38. The professional diplomat: soft spoken and very good at socializing with people. Well traveled, highly resistant to alcohol and very charming. Often middle-aged with slight overweight (to many official dinners) and seen as harmless. The Lady's love him for his exotic flair, funny story's and good manners. 39. The tourist guide: often found in big city's or special locations he shows the new adventurers around. Specialized local knowledge. 40. The charismatic monster: for example the mentioned vampire- bard; I have an infamous NPC werewolf-bard, who is hated and feared above everything else by most PCs. Has a few levels of fighter and rogue as well... 41. A female gypsy-style fortune-teller |
| Mr_Seth04-03-08, 07:31 PM | 42. The Journeyman. Travels the world, writes about it in guidebooks. Cocky, self-assured, versatile, and quite possibly insane. His writings are often wildly inaccurate, but always entertaining. Always has an anecdote to spin. 43. The Information Broker. Listens to everything, and can inform anyone of what's really going on in the world... for a price. |
| Terjon of the Blue Rose04-05-08, 03:52 AM | 44. The well trained noble (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=913906) |
| Mr_Seth04-06-08, 01:37 AM | 45. "Wah-Wah" Graydon - Taciturn to the point of rudeness. Answers most questions with a single word - barely more than a grunt. Lets his intense focus on his Perform skill do the talking for him (max ranks, skill focus and any other feats that would pump it up). 46. Legend In His Own Mind - Actual skill notwithstanding, this guy thinks he's the next Bernard. Boasts endlessly of his own (imagined) accomplishments. Think Tenacious D, and you've just about nailed it. |
| Jacob_Crowe04-06-08, 03:52 PM | 47) Cockney Street Urchin: think the Artful Dodger, but more self-aggrandizing. 48) Skald: Viking bard, close to the bugler, probably with a first level in barbarian, to get that whole illiterate thing going, in touch with his wild side. 49) Ten-Year-Old: has a permanent case of ooh-what's-this, despite being 28 and heavily scarred from previous mishaps. 50) Exotic: comes from a foreign land, plays an instrument nobody's seen before, like a Quarterstaff carved in such a way that it plays notes when he fights, based upon his grip and how he swings. obligatory braid/beard/mustaches/muscles well oiled and well kept. |
| Xavon04-06-08, 03:55 PM | 51. The Kender Kazoo bard 52. The Insult Comic - instead of singing, he insults the enemies, their mothers, and their entire species, to throw them off their game. (especially useful against evil cockroach wizards) |
| Bone_Yard04-06-08, 08:02 PM | 53)Jhonny: A young fiddle player whos skill with the instrument has surpassed the devil's. |
| Melpomene04-09-08, 08:47 PM | 54.) Lawyer. While technically unable to be lawful (?) the skillset and abilities of the bard make for a very suitable barrister, lawman, or council. |
| Orchomenos04-15-08, 09:42 AM | 54.) Lawyer. While technically unable to be lawful (?) the skillset and abilities of the bard make for a very suitable barrister, lawman, or council. I do not think finding loopholes in the Law is being really lawful... :P I once wanted to make a "own-a-inn" subplot, and the PCs had to choose between 4 bards to help them: 55) LG retired human ranger. A good fighter, have good and diverse stories to tell, but is quite boring. 56) CN Half-elf bard. He's a sexist womanizer (he thinks the best place for a woman is in the bed, with him). He's a gambler, and always have all kinds of problems. 57) NE human bard. A racist who do not like what's not human, and frequently pick-up fights. Keeps on trying illegal things (gambling tables, black market alcohol, "courtesans"). 58) NG female human bard. She believes behing a bard is more a vocation than an occupation, so she dislikes anyone who acts as a bard. Good at divination and illusion spells. |
| Melpomene04-15-08, 03:03 PM | I do not think finding loopholes in the Law is being really lawful... :P If you wanted a PC to be a lawyer, what class would you give them? Bard has access to Diplomacy, Know:Nobility, Gather Information, Know:History, and Perform:Oratory. It's a lawyer skillset. |
| Orchomenos04-16-08, 02:16 PM | If you wanted a PC to be a lawyer, what class would you give them? Bard has access to Diplomacy, Know:Nobility, Gather Information, Know:History, and Perform:Oratory. It's a lawyer skillset. I totally agree with this part. The part where I disagree is "technically unable to be lawful". A judge would almost always be lawful, a prosecutor (or District Attorney) would often be lawful, while you can have all the spectrum of alignments for other general lawyers. The same way as you can have a chaotic but faithful cleric, or a chaotic wizard spending hours of dedicated study. |

However, lawyers are, as a group, at least theoretically Often Lawful (>50%). It is unfortunate then that the bard does not allow for any lawfulness. |
| El_Shawno04-17-08, 01:04 AM | 60. The Hitchhiker. Like Ford Prefect, this gent/lady wanders the known universe far and wide in order to gather information for a famous guide (based in...Sigil, I'd think?). He/she'd have profession: scribe and a high charisma but average intelligence at best. In short, he/she'd write well and tell stories well but wouldn't always be as accurate as someone ought to be. Would have a slightly sardonic, highly unflappable way about him. His retinue of followers would include one commoner human male, one human female sage, on ettin, and an almost terminally depressed warforged. |
| Anuer04-17-08, 09:45 AM | 61: If your DM will allow a lawful twist, I've always seen the LE Bard who sees music as merely a tool he has a subconsious need to perfect as interesting. He could really care less about helping the masses or his own fame--he just NEEDS to be a skilled performer. Throw him in a noble's court as an uncompromising court musician. |
| Tommyboy04-17-08, 11:37 PM | If you wanted a PC to be a lawyer, what class would you give them? Bard has access to Diplomacy, Know:Nobility, Gather Information, Know:History, and Perform:Oratory. It's a lawyer skillset. Another good class for those skills would be rogue. Especially for the Ben Affleck fans. Anyway: 62. The "house bard" hired by a wealthy aristcrat/merchant to teach his children music. |
| El_Shawno04-20-08, 11:45 PM | 63: The Carnival Barker/Ringmaster This Bard has a mastery of the perform (Oratory) skill and is leader/tout for a band of performers/side show types. His Diplomacy and Bluff skills would be maximized and he would likely have taken the Skill Focus feat for Bardic Knowledge. If evil, he could be a character similar to the Ringmaster from Marvel Comics. That is, he could be the leader of a group of petty criminals who fascinates villagers and or local nobles while his cohorts rob them blind. He could, for example, have a team of monks and rouges as performes/cutpurses. Or, if one is more inclined, he could be using a travelling circus and/or side show as a front for something more sinister. Perhaps he is using a travelling circus as a front while he searches for forbidden knowledge or an ancient artifact. Perhaps he is looking for a long-hidden portal to [Hell/the Abyss/the Far Realm]. He could be doing it for himself, or if one wishes to expand the idea into a campaign-length concpet, working for someone or something else (e.g. he's an Illitihd's thrall or willing servant). Alternately, he could be the leader of good-aligned adventurers who use a circus/sideshow as a front as they track down those who would seek to harm innocents (e.g. they're tracking a group of Ravagers through the countryside) or obtain forbidden knowledge. |
| SirSigfried04-24-08, 04:39 AM | 64) The Organist/Hymn Writer Loves nothing more than bringing the auditory power of the gods, into your temple/church, on the various days of worship. |
| Kuroimaken04-24-08, 11:39 AM | 65) The conspirator. Typically has higher Intelligence than Charisma. He's the real mastermind, not the BBEG, but the BBEG thinks it's the other way around. Uses his ability of Suggestion and Diplomacy skills to great effect. Usually has a much less conspicuous guise, such as the BBEG's lover. Hat of Disguise is a MUST. 66) The Obsessive-Compulsive. He plays, more often than not, because he can't do anything else. 67) The Self-Absorbed. Usually has a long, winding history of tragedy and woe that he's willing to tell to anyone who'd listen (and to those who would NOT listen) until he had them crying at his feet -- either out of boredom or because they're sick of listening to him over and over again. 68) The Anti-Lawyer. He doesn't just -find- loopholes in the law -- he stretches them beyond all recognition, claims that laws are inherently flawed and inspires anarchy. Typically has higher Charisma than Intelligence --WAY higher. 69) (YES! Took this spot!) The Spoiled Bastard. He's learned very, very early in life that the best way to get what he wants is to convince people that it's best they give it to him or, failing that, bawling and crying like a baby with a rash until they eventually crack. 70) The Escaped Madman. A Self-Absorbed spin-off. Instead of pouring his tragedy outwards, he focused it inwards and went crazy. Now, his EVERY action seems to follow the specific purpose of correcting his personal tragedy. Often has his eyes covered so people can't see his crazed looks. AKA Lucky Luigi. |
| Mystrich04-29-08, 03:12 AM | 71. A bard who's culture is not the norm in the area, and his songs/poems/stories don't sound quite as great as they should to the other people of the area. Whether boring to them, disgusting to them, or just plain odd. |
| Orchomenos04-29-08, 01:05 PM | 71. A bard who's culture is not the norm in the area, and his songs/poems/stories don't sound quite as great as they should to the other people of the area. Whether boring to them, disgusting to them, or just plain odd. I've always thought that a bard who performs (sing, oratory, etc) in the Common language should have some penalty... ;) |
| vrmh04-30-08, 07:38 PM | 72. The Failed Enchanter. Having spent too much time in bars and not enough time studying, his talents for enchantments and manipulations were honed in a slightly different way than intended when he enrolled in wizard school. |
| Orguth the Brawler05-08-08, 06:03 PM | 74) Elitist Artist. Better suited for Acting or a diverse array of instruments, and in my opinion best suited for someone playing a playwrite/director, or a conductor. After all, what's the difference between a conductor and God? God knows He isn't a conductor. |
