Ok, here's what's up: I DM and my friends stink at Role Playing. A few are ok, but most are horrible. Our next campaign, they want to take on characters that are premade at first level, but each are unique in their own aspect. So I thought who better to help me than all you great people of the wizards forums. All you need to do is pick a race from the PH (plus Warforged) and a class that makes him unique. Weapons, whatever at 1st level. Stats no need. Maybe a short history or something to explain your Halfling Barbarian or Dwarf Monk. Thanks!

Ok, questions. What core books are allowed and when you say classes do you mean core classes or PrC classes? I'm going to assume you mean core classes from the PHB and those found in the Complete series and campaign settings.

Perhaps, instead of doing a motley crue of assorted adventurers, perhaps you could all have a theme. Let's take music as an example. Here are a couple ideas I've had lying around:

1. Julio Van McFunkenstein - Half-Orc bard who plays the piano. Terribly strong, he carries his piano strapped to his back with heavy ropes. When he needs to play, he unlashes it, let's it fall to the ground, and rolls over the top to start playing. The piano is a bit out of tune. :P

2. Dr. Lovecrush - Breakdancing halfling sorcerer. Instead of wiggling his fingers around, he lays out sweet moves for all his somatic components. He starts doing flares and fireballs shoot from his feet. He does a headspin and a mighty tornado comes down from the sky.

Obviously, these are just concepts that you could modify however you like (such as losing the rediculous names). But I think you get the idea.

those music guys are sweet, lol. Stuff like that.

All the PH is D&D core classes plus the miniatures handbook characters, if any of them are interesting.

Any other ideas?

Hmm, I would go with something more serious, but what is your campaign setting like?

I love the Idea of the breakdancing sorcorer. I can imagine him body popping lightning bolts into foes.

Add to the group a Gnome barbarian Cacophanus who is a one man band, has drum that beats when he walks, a harmonica at his mouth, bells on his wrists and ankles and an accordian strapped between his knees and his weapon is a pair of adamantine cymbols.

Think a setting somewhere between Eberron (just because of warforged and flying ships) and a rough fantasy style. I'm not opposed to comical characters. One player made a Paladin who's mount was a giant banana spider only because he knew people had arachnaphobia.

Here are bare bones descriptions of characters I have played and characters I have in the holding bin ready to be played.

A human wizard who was badly burned by an accident at his father's blacksmith shop in his teens and therefore stays away from all fire and acid spells.

A half-orc monk with a high level half-orc fighter and a human druid for a mother. He feels a need to prove himself just as daddy did.

A dwarven paladin who will give the shirt of his back to the poor, but who has a real big love of gems and finds it hard not to horder them.

A halfling sorceror who is an irrepressible flirt.

A half-elf ranger who barely speaks except if you get him talking about combat tactics... then you cant get him to shut up about the possibilites.

Those are some interesting ones. I like ones that allow for different plot hooks and stuff. Allowing each character to have his own agenda makes the games more fun.

Here's one of mine:

Elf Ranger who grew up in the desert pits as a warrior. He trained in using spiked chains and has a fierce enmity for reptilians because one had killed his mentor. Thus, he cannnot have a wild animal lizard pet, and he attacks them on sight.

By the way, I played the breakdancing sorcerer last night. I combined the two names listed above: he was "Dr. Julio Von Lovecrush". I took the leadership feat, so his cohort was the orc with the piano (named Major Chord, or simply "The Major").
Dr. Lovecrush basically dressed like Aladin.... baggy red pants, gold vest, no shirt... except he was a pasty white guy with curly blonde hair. And he had an Australian accent.... and I think he was a drug addict. Very fun character.
