| Daxen03-07-07, 07:22 PM | I had an odd idea just a bit ago about an alternate racial history for a sub-race of Dwarf. Which came about as a result of making a backstory for a Dwarven Monk character. I am not locked into monk as a class and recommendations are welcome if something jumps out at you. The Creation Myth : Long ago before the elves descended from their arboreal homes and before humankind was a glimmer in the eye of creation, a call rang out in the world and there was a stirring deep within the "Oerth" (insert setting appropriate planet). This stirring seemed desperate to answer the call that had come and began to claw, crawl, and reach toward the sound of "The Calling". There was a glimmer of sentience in this writhing mass of life energy and it did split. Each small piece searching out a path to the call. These smaller bits formed into humanoid shaped figures hewn from the very stone. This is known as "The First Divide" These creatures are known as "Erdleute" or (Earth People). It is at this point that Moradin (Appropriate Major Dwarven Diety) did take notice of these creatures. He came to them and said. "Follow me unto my forge so that I may transform you from raw ore to worked steel. Come and be reborn within my hearthfire and I shall guide you in your way" Most of the creatures did follow Moradin and were glad to find a purpose and a Father. Some of the "Erdleute" though stopped and asked. "Are you that which called to us while we were within?" Moradin answered "In Truth I am not" "Then we cannot follow you unto your forge. We must answer unto "The Calling" This is known as "The Second Divide" That is who we are my brother. We are the "Erdleute" people of the Oerth and answerers of "The Calling" Philosophy: Over the centuries the Erdleute have developed a philosophy that is vastly different than their Dwarven brothers. Though they are nearly identical in appearance and physical make-up, the Erdleute believe that it is only through struggle that their lives are their individual answers to "The Calling.". Rare indeed is the Erdleute that seeks monetary fortune or personal fame as these are usually looked upon as distractions. Introspection and Awarness are valued highly as are new experiences. The Erdelute believe themselves tempered by the Oerth rather than Forged in Moradin's fire. The Erdelute tend to gather only in small groups and it is usually for mating purposes once every couple of decades (optional). They are wanderers by nature and tend to be even tempered and charitable. Favored Class: Monk Racial abilities as Dwarf except lose Stonecunning and Encumberance special rules for "Tremor sense" The character would probably be a wandering Vow of Poverty Monk. Do you guys have any recommendations for how you think he would play? Stats if they matter would be: Str:16 Dex:14 Con:14 (16) Int:13 Wis:16 Cha:12 (10) |
