I'm not sure if this is the right forum but here it goes anyway: I'm a level 5 NG Cleric. Back at lv 2 my group and I found a Trog nursery and I kept one (The DM told me it was about a foot tall, so very young) I've kept it with me every moment since. I've been using my diplomacy to try and get it to warm up, so far i've had great rolls for it. I've also been speaking Draconic to it.

My question is at what point should I try my Atonement spell and try to turn him to N G NG ect...?

Should that come before or after he warms up to me more?

Also if it does imprint to me how would I go about raising it?

Can I decide it's class or would it try and be a Cleric, like myself? (yes they can do that it's in the Trog description, only basics though)

How fast do Trogs grow up?

What kind of things would I need in order to try and remove the smell gland (I'm not sure if I want to)

And lastly, how much of this should be me rolling for it vs fate checks or the DM flat out deciding it?

Thanks for any info you can give me on this, also if you think this post belongs in another section let me know where.

- Atonement: I think after it likes you more, as the creature has to be willing to change its alignement for the spell to work at all.

- Raising it: hmm, feed it? Teach it how to behave? No idea what you mean about this.

- Class: I think you should ask your DM.

- Trogs growing: no idea, up to the DM I'd say.

- Smell gland: Is it even a smell gland? Maybe it's rather like sweat pores.

- Rolling and roleplaying has to be done, imho.

Well I think the fair thing would be to treat it as a cohort. Since a troglodyte is a sentient being he's not so much a pet as a good friend, perhaps a relative or something. Therefore the DM would probably choose for the trog what direction he wants his life to go. If he wants to follow you around and be just like "daddy" and be a cleric, that's justifiable. I don't think it'd turn on you or anything but you can't also think that you can dictate which class/feats/etc you want it to take any more than you can force your npc human rogue cohort that's been following you for a while to choose track cause you can't track things. In the DM's guide there's rules for leveling cohorts and such. Take a look at that I'd say.

I believe it is a gland, I seem to remember a spell in some book or other that has one as a material component.
