| Savras08-12-03, 05:38 PM | So, I'm going to have a Pirate NPC to vex, frighten and madden my players (he'll be neutral, but... well, you'll have to see his full writeup). What I need now is "Pirate-Speak"- I've got Savy? from PotC-CotBP (the idea for the pirate NPC dates to well before this film, though). I also got Walk the plank!, Land Ahoy, Shiver me timber, and that's that. Anyone got more? Thanks! If you help me, I'll share the NPC with all of you.http://www.geocities.com/sirgrimsage/Smilies/savras.txt Savras |
| Theocracity08-12-03, 06:11 PM | So a pirate walks into a bar, with a large steering wheel stuck in the front of his pants. A guy notices it and says, "Hey, what's that steering wheel doing in your pants?" The pirate responds, "Arrr, it's driving me nuts!" |
| Savras08-12-03, 06:54 PM | Saw it. Also saw the one with the Leg, Hook and Eye. Good ones, both of em. And that adds to the Pirate Lexicon the most frequant word: Arrrr!. Savras |
| TinySilverChalice08-12-03, 11:39 PM | Well, pirates often use boat vocab, like starboard and such. They go to the head, not the privy. And for some reason our DM's ship captains always talk about his "hardened seamen" crew. |
| Tzor08-13-03, 10:46 AM | Pirate talk should be filled with nautical references. It should also be filled with positive expressions of the unpleasant activities of robbery. http://www.piratehunter.info/pirateweb3.htm http://www.maritimepirates.com/jargon.html http://www.io.com/~sj/PirateTalk.html Apparently "Talk like a pirate day" is September 19th. Perhaps there are some things I don't really need to know. Someties Google can be overkill. :D |
| Domni Dalrose08-13-03, 11:10 AM | A great pirate site with a page of nautical terms and even has the various drinks they drank. :D Swashbuckler's Cove (http://www.aschulze.net/pirates/general.htm) A very nice swashbuckler core class by Silven Crossroads. It'll definately give you ideas about how to make one. :) Silven Crossroads: Swashbuckler core class (http://www.silven.com/adnd.asp?case=show&id=78) |
| Savras08-13-03, 03:24 PM | Tzor and Domni Dalrose- you are great! Thanks a bunch! Err, that is, shiver me timbers, that was done handsomely, maties! Arr, me hearties, I'll never put the black spot on ye, ye got me word! Let's splice the mainbrace and have some o' Nelson's Folly! Savras |
| cultjake08-15-03, 03:48 AM | "Have ye seen me mizzen mast?" "No, why?" "It's mizzen." Other pirate lingo: fo'c'sle (foksel) - the forecastle, which is the raised deck at the prow of a 3 mast ship. sheets - any kind of ropes or knots swabby - constantly used to refer to any compatriot gotta run, pirate jake |
