| spectralent12-14-05, 04:23 PM | I am creating a feind blooded char for a campaign i am soon to start in. He gains his power from a contract his g.g.g.g.g.g.g.g.g.g.g.g. grandfather made with a feindish entitity (devil) ages ago. and he is basically the last generation it affects. Now, i was htinking the terms of the contract would come in on the last effective generation. But what could those terms be? i am thinking along the lines of "eternal servitude" or "must kill everyone on the plane" or something equally horrible. any ideas? |

The few times my PCs have made deals with devils the tasks they were given were obscure and strange and generated a large amount of paranoia. After all who can make sense of the plans of creatures that exist for thousands and thousands of years? Here is one of the most notable examples from one of my games: In return for the life of a friend, the Devil Moloch asked the PC making the deal to swear to deliver an imprisoned Nymph in a small glass bottle to an old crone. The crone in turn would give the PC a golden pear that he must have an Aasamar child with a pure heart willingly eat. Under no circumstances was the PC to free the Nymph from the bottle. The reasons for all of this were completely unknown to the PC, who accepted the deal. However, there was much adventuring generated from this simple quest, and the paranoia generated from this obscure set of tasks caused the PC to eventually FREE the Nymph from the bottle…. Once he did that… all hell broke loose… but that’s another story! Heh! |

That's a really good idea, actually. You might come out with a very interesting characters, specially if he's exalted good and has to commit an evil act. Unfortunately, I'm way too tired to think of any ideas... too bad. :( |

My own inclination is to say that if you want anything more specific than "eternal servitude", you should probably ask your GM - any specific actions would basically just be adventure hooks, which should be tailored to fit the campaign. But for the sake of your thread, here are a few ideas: Base it on the number of generations. Say, your character has to do the Devil one favour for every generation through which the power was handed down - just replace "favour" with whatever you like. An interesting way to use this might be to have the character required to kill <number of generations> powerful evil creatures on the Prime material plane, so the Devil could recruit their souls into its forces in Hell. Killing said creatures wouldn't violate even a Good character's alignment, after all, but it would mean that every important fight would bring him a step closer to providing the Devil with God knows how powerful an army :p Another fun idea might be that the contract said that the final generation would be consumed by the Devil on their (x)th birthday, which would basically means the party gets a high-level encounter to fight when he comes to collect. If you worded it well, you could even provide a loophole for stopping your ageing with magic or whatever, and weasel out of it - Devils are lawful, after all. Depends entirely on how you'd like to get out of it (or not get out of it, if that's the case). Another one might be that the firstborn child of the final generation (ie, your character's first kid) would be taken by the Devil as a servant, or something like that. Provides a nice angsty villain idea if your character had a fling in his teenagerhood (how old is he?) that he's forgotten about ;p |
