Yea, it's a contradiction, because fighters and barbs use entirely different tactics. It's a topic that's been thrown around a lot.
Thing is, it happens to be an extremely powerful combination.
Some(i don't remember who) have told about how they successfully role-played this class combination, but I really don't have a clue how it could be done. Could someone enlighten me?

I dont see the difficulty. Especially when think back to the old 2e rules where barbarian was a race not a class. The new barb is sorta like the old barb fighter. So you can have just about any story you want. A few levels in fighter might just mean the charecter has a little more refinment in his style or more specialized with a particular weapon. While a few levels in barb could translate into someone who is a bit more recklass, passionate, and/or comes from a non-urban background. The two are so similar I dont see much contridiction.

I fail to see any difficulty as well, as Fighters are built to adhere to any tactics your character has. And, yes, this is a powerful multiclass. My first character is a Dwarf Barbarian who has ended up multiclassing into Fighter. He makes my DM very frustrated, as without min/maxing him, he's become very strong with tons of HP, great feats(Knockdown? Hell yes), increased speed, and some pretty decent skills, too.

Plus, if anyone else has realized, the Fortitude save gets a boost by 20th level. +14 together with 10 levels of each, instead of +12.
