| bjdaredevil0107-10-07, 04:16 PM | I'm having issues being a true follower of my God... I'm a Sorcerer who decided to follow Olidammara because I'm a prankster in nature and mostly because is one of the only CN Gods. The problem relies in How to role-play a follower of Olidammara without being a fanatic? This is the first time I will try to really invest time in a Religion on DnD. Any tips? |
| Fithero07-11-07, 12:46 AM | just call on him for luck when your gambling or stealing from someone, ask him to help the dice roll well or to make sure the guards dont see you... the sorta stuff people ask for in real life.... but theres actually a chance it might work :P |
| warwinner07-11-07, 02:09 AM | Ask for his favour when doing something important When nothing seems to be going right, invoke his name Express gratitude once in a while to him |

Toss a coin for things you're uncertain about ("which tunnel? left or right?" *coin toss* "Heads, we go left!") and play harmless jokes on your party and others. Mild stuff like that may give you the flavor you're looking for without being a constant focus. :) |

Unless you're a cleric you don't need to do everything just like your god would and even then clerics dedicate themselves to certain aspects of their god, which is why they pick two out of three or sometimes more domains. You didn't even need pick a Chaotic Neutral god (although in the core book Olidammara is the only god that would fit your needs as a prankster anyway). Anyway here are a few things to think about; Are you a devout follower, a follower of an aspect (think of each domain as an aspect) or do you just pay lip service to your god (say you follow him do just what is convenient to you but don't bother going to church or pray much)? Do you have any actual dealings with the church of Olidammara? From what I could tell the church is actually very secretive. if the Temple Raider of Olidammara in complete divine is any indication the churches are usually hidden and by invite only. Following an aspect of Olidammara by domain Luck - You like to take risks because you believe that luck will be on your side. Consider taking some luck feats out of complete scoundrel. Take the gambling idea that has already been posted. The Coin toss thing is great to and you can use it for more things, like choosing which enemy to attack. With your personality be complete reckless because you know you have luck on your side. Always take the long shot in every situation. Trickery - become a practical joker. You may be neutral but if you lean a little more toward good play harmless but inappropriate jokes on the party members. Laugh a lot even in the most bizarre situations. You're a sorcerer so max out your bluff skill. Take feats that alter you spells and how you cast them (Energy substitution, Silent Spell). Chaos - Have an ever shifting personality. Don't always do the same things unlike luck were you will always take teh long shot because you feel lucky with chaos you will do some things the easy way and some things the hard way. My suggestion is make lists of actions for different situations and number them so you can roll a dice to decide what course you'll take. Chaos can be anything so take any feats you like but consider getting yourself a rod of wonder and possibly taking the wild mage prestige class from complete arcane. Character Development If you want to become a more devout member of the Olidamarra church consider taking some cleric levels and then a class like mystic theurge that let's you go up in both casting class. If you don't mind losing some spell levels multiclass in to rogue or if you haven't gotten that far into the game maybe your DM will let you switch to something like Spell Thief, I've never played the class but it could be a lot of fun story wise for a follower of Olidammara. If there are skill points you aren't using a lot of (you may only be buying Spellcraft and Knowledge [Aracne]) consider investing in bluff, hide, move silently and sleight of hand if you follow the trickery domain. Bluff, diplomacy and sense motive if you have luck on your side. Also pick up complete scoundrel in the beginning of the book their are roleplaying, feat, spell and PrC notes for different types of scoundrels that may help you. |
| bjdaredevil0107-13-07, 12:03 PM | Wow great post this is very very helpful to me being new to religion on DnD. For starters and really new to the game just started playing on and off 1 year and a half also only been in 5 campaigns and from these only this last one i'm in at the moment i got to use religion to my advantage. Also i didn't know that my GOD didn't have to be CN if that was the case i would have chosen someone else. Our cleric is a follower of Olidammara and i already use my GOD to advance the plot of the game, so it would be to late. To answer another one of your questions i only pay lip service to Olidammara to my convinience, the reason for the start of the post is so i can learn how to properly use religion. I defenetly don't want to be devoted (going to church all the time). |
| h4ttori07-25-07, 07:56 PM | Hi, im playin a Rogue that follows Olidamara in fact is very devoted in His Way, first that all hes praying every time but how a Rogue can pray? easy as a Prankster Olidamara Likes Good Wine so he Drinks Alot wine in his name obvius ly when he is going out of town dont drink so much bcoz can die in a dungeon Trap, also he gave 10% of his gamble profits and always ask for Favors when Disarming Traps or looking for hidden tunnel o so |
