| Chrono Nexus02-19-07, 03:14 PM | Well, I'm toying with the idea of playing an inexperienced fighter who has a goal to become a night... He is an orphan, and is raised in the care of his adoptive uncle, a retired knight. He learns the ways of the smithy and of war from his uncle. He is enamored by the concept of honor, and seeks to live by it's code... from the age of about 11 he's been working as a squire under his uncle, but as a right of passage at 18 he's assigned to be the ward (bodyguard) of a fledgling arcane spellcaster (whoever the arc. caster will be in the party). To attain the title of knighthood, he must adventure with the mage for a year to gain experience. I don't have a name, or an idea of his appearance. In fact, I don't even have abilities rolled. Please post some ideas for this theme! |
| Blackened_Blade02-19-07, 06:48 PM | There are some questions you need to ask yourself before advancing the character concept. First: How is honor defined? Is it a warrior code as is commonly associated with the knighthood, or is honor a series of rules to be bent and interpreted for personal gain? Second: How ambitious is your character? Is he willing to ill-gotten gains and garnered secrets to advance his cause? Third: How does he feel being attached to the party's arcane spellcaster? Is he dutiful or resentful? I may come up with more later and I don't have a lot of time from writing now. See you round. |
| Chrono Nexus02-19-07, 08:16 PM | First: How is honor defined? Is it a warrior code as is commonly associated with the knighthood, or is honor a series of rules to be bent and interpreted for personal gain? For him, the term knighthood is almost coterminous with hero. He wants to become the knight in shining armor- and for him the code isn't so much an aspect of knighthood as it is a stepping stone. He knows that by obeying the code, he'll be recognized more as knight material. By the way, I'm discussing the knight class as per the PHB2. It only has one basic code, which is "fight fair". No flanking, no CDGing, no attacking flatfooted opponents. Second: How ambitious is your character? He wants to live up to the tales he was told as a boy. His parents were killed by (insert sad and horrible story here) so he wants to be able to save others from the same misfortune. Is he willing to ill-gotten gains and garnered secrets to advance his cause? No. Third: How does he feel being attached to the party's arcane spellcaster? Is he dutiful or resentful? He's a little resentful that he was matched up with such a weakling... but he knows his duty and does his best to be a dependable Ward. |
