My name is Maring, what does this have to do with the story I'm about to tell you, *cough*, well, of course I'm the hero, well ok, I lied about that part. Well, where shell I begin....

Let's see, our story begins atop the rooftops of Telflamm, with a man running away from something, or towards it, I can't remember. So he's running, and he stops, and slides down the building and sneaks up to a pretty well-known thief. Most know of him as Joel, the quickhanded. He prided himself on being the best thief in town, fact was, his name and face were known, that doesn't equal best thief, just sloppiest. Now this guy I'm talking about, he's a ghost, no one knows his name or face. The only thing people know about him is the hawk they sometimes see flying before something goes down. So that's what he's called, the Hawk.

Now, the Hawk is not a guy whose bad side you want to be on. Don't steal from kids, or people with little money, and don't kill anyone who doesn't deserve it. Let's just say the last time someone killed someone and left his kids orphaned, the next day the local orphanage had a sizable "donation" left in their father's name. I've seen my share fair of violence, theft, and murder, but that's not the Hawk. You can think of him like the Crimson Mask of the city, helping out the downtrodden and the weak. I remember when I made the mistake of crossing the line and the Hawk was none too happy. Let's just say I became an honest businessman after that encounter.

That lucky bastard beat me on every roll, even though the dice was rigged, or so I thought. He switched out the fake dice for real ones, and let Tymora decide our fates, looks like I was the unlucky one. He then passed me a piece of paper and walked out of the room, I sent some hired thugs to follow him after he shut the door, but he was gone. A little spooked, I unraveled the note, and it read, "give back all the money you unrightfully earned or I'll take it back." Of course I didn't believe it at the time, so I went about my business and one night I awoke to a bird at the foot of my bed.. It dropped a note and then flew out the window. This note read, "maybe you'll be luckier in another life." First thought was that I had been poisoned, but then I looked at my picture on the wall with a piece of paper sticking out of it. I read this note and it said, "you're getting closer". In a panic I threw the picture to the ground and opened my hidden safe. All of the money in the safe had vanished. I ran to the basement into the secret hallway bypassing the trap leading to the vault. When I got to the end, I noticed the door being ajar. My fears were realized, I had been cleaned out, all of the money I had gained was lost, except for 100gp with a note under them. "Take this money and start a real business, and don't try and cheat luck, because then you're cheating Tymora out of her fun."

So after that day I became an honest businessman, with my own tavern. I decided to pray to Tymora the next morning, and went to a gambling house. I tried my luck and won just enough money for the payment on a tavern being sold. So that's where I am today, running the bar, and charging fair prices for good beer.

Now you're probably wondering how I matter in any of this. Well, I really don't, except for what I've seen and heard. It appears luck smiles upon someone only for so long, and then forsakes you like a jealous woman. I saw the Hawk in a fight with a local wizard who I heard has been using magic to "persuade" people into doing things against their will. They were going at it, it was really flashy, spells being thrown around and a hooded man dodging them with ease. Until I saw the wizard shoot lightning out of the tips of his fingers and right before it hit the Hawk, he disappeared. And then reappeared directly behind the wizard, as his sword begin to glow as if it just came off the forge with a flash he gave 3 quick hits to the wizard. It was easy to see the wizard was on his last legs.

The Wizard yelled in some strange language, and a minotaur broke through the back door of the shop came charging at the Hawk. He stood his ground and right before the minotaur reached him, he leaped over the minotaur, grabbed onto the horns of the minotaur and rode it into a wall. A blade extended from his knee and sleeve and as he landed a few quick stabs and the minotaur slumped to the ground before it was even able to free itself from the wall. The wizard said a few curses in a foreign tongue and then began chanting something.

As his hand turned red hot, fire erupted from it and exploded directly on top of the Hawk, all that was left behind was a smoldering corpse.....

so,what do you guys think about what I have so far?

Nice. Presumably The Hawk is the PC your developing. Is he actually dead then?

It's a little strange that a devotee of Tymora is a defender of the downtrodden. Its true that Tymora generally represents good luck and Beshaba foul but she doesn't grant luck based on whether one needs it so much as on what they've done to deserve it. The best one generally hopes for from a Tymoran cleric is usually "Don't worry, you're coin will turn in time." type statement. Presumably a rogue would have a similarly detatched point of view if he truly followed her teachings

I like the story, but as Terjon said, is he dead now? I'm sure the hawk could have evaded this fire ball, but perhaps he was scarred in the proces. But the story is cool.

Keep up the good work :D

he's not dead, and I'm trying to think of an imaginative end to this one, I've got a little bit of it planned in my head, I'll flesh it out put it on paper later.

and my take on it was anyone cheating luck, was cheating Tymora.

The rest is just general do-gooder stuff, if you see something bad happen, you do something about it.

I figured I'd have the story follow a few of her portfolios, Good, Fortune, Skill, Victory, and finally Adventurers.

The wizard, cackling, confident in his victory, walked over to the smoldering corpse. His face turned pale as he noticed horns sticking out of the charred flesh. He had burned the minotaur, and another body was no where in sight. As he came to this realization he felt something warm on his chest. As blood began pouring out of it another blade went through him and as he fell, he saw the face of the Hawk. As he tried to mutter out a sentence, he kept repeating, "Tor...Tor....Tor....", as his last breath escaped his lungs and he fell silent.

The guards finally arrived, and drew their weapons hoping to apprehend the Hawk The Hawk blew a strange looking whistle and a bird in the sky returned the call. From high in the sky four or five smokesticks hit the ground around the Hawk, and when the smoke dissipated, he was nowhere to be found. The guard spent the next few days searching to no avail. The Hawk had disappeared, and as usual, no one would ever find him. To this day, that wizard's last words are the only clue to anything related to the Hawk.

That's the end, cough up five gold pieces for the story, nothing in life is free. Now if you want to hear about the rest of the story, it's 10 gold pieces, and it's a bit longer than the previous one. It takes place far from the walls of Telflamm, in a distant place......

and I don't know where the campaign is taking place, so the rest will have to be a mystery.
