| Friar Tuck07-30-03, 03:51 PM | Have enyone seen"X-men 2". You how had, You know "The nightcrawler", I'am trying to Build up a D&D Nightcrawler, I'am gonna be something like him and i need help with the build. |
| Campeador07-30-03, 04:36 PM | Monk Shadowdancer. Though it's not necessarily Monk to start out with. Rogue can work just as fine, but Nightcrawler seems to be keen on some nice hand- and footwork. Get Hide and Jump high as well as Sense Motive. A shadowdancer has the Shadow Jump abilitiy, allowing him to jump from one shadow to another, within a certain distance. Also just the Hide in Plain Sight ability will be sort a teleporting. Suddenly they don't see you anymore and you only are visible at your next action....;) This is the closest I can take while working with just classes. You could also work with making your own template. Nightcrawler having the ability to use the spell-like ability teleport (like the spell) for a certain times a day, equalling 5 times, plus CON modifier or some such... |
| I_cannt_speel07-30-03, 06:32 PM | If your playing in FR, Unaproachable East has a prestige class practicly made to be nightcralwer called Telflamaar Shadowlord. P.S. You probably won't get too many responses here because this is the wrong board, you might want to try the character optimization boards for better results. |
| TheDarkestOfAngels08-03-03, 03:12 AM | why not be a psion with the psychoportation discipline? "Psychoportation: Powers that propel or displace objects space or time. A psion whose primary discipline is Psychoportation is called a nomad." pg8 of Psionics Handbook. Teleportation, Teleport w/o error, plane shift, temporal velocity, fly, time hop, etc.... all those are powers within that discipline. I believe that they might fit him rather well... plus he'll get a number of other great powers from other disciplines as well. |
| Kinson Shaldyr08-03-03, 05:26 PM | While this doesn't fit as well RP-wise...it fits mechanically for what you're trying to accomplish. Try using a "Shade" template from the Forgotten Realms' Races of Fearun. The +4 ECL hurts, but the move-equivalent action dimension door ability at will is perfect for him. The invisibility at will & darkness enhancing abilities are just gravy on top. If you don't want the last two, perhaps negotiate with your DM to remove them and lower the race's ECL (since this is being used for conceptual mechanics, not strict RP...thus you're building from a shade template, but you aren't a true FR shade character). That and the physical appearance of a shade from FR is rather close to that of Nightcrawler. Hope that helps :) |
| GoblinBiter10-06-03, 12:35 AM | Half-drow: for coloration, darkvision 60ft, ECL+0 Ranger 3/Rogue 5/ShadowDancer 1/Horizon Walker 6/Telflammar Shadowlord 5/ horizon walker: dimension door every 1d4 rounds Telflammar shadowlord: shadowwalk; shadow discorporation (if you recall when he was shot in the back he disappeared leaving only traces of dark smoke) |
| Campeador10-06-03, 04:59 AM | Goblinbiter: The Shadow Jump ability of the Shadowdancer and the Shadow Stride/Shadow Walk abilities of the Shade are like dimension door as well. I think a Shade Monk/Shadowdancer is the best solution. |
| dorkknight2310-10-03, 03:24 AM | Ok, although I love how they did Nightcrawler in X-2, I'd rather do a version truer to the comic: He should have incredible dex, and at least decent intelligence and charisma. Strength, constitution, and wisdom, can be in the 10-11 range; constitution doesn't necessarily need to be there if you roll badly. He'd have at least a few Duelist levels (he fashions himself a Swashbuckler of sorts) He'd have some Shadowdancer levels (to mimic his teleporting and his exceptional hiding in shadows) And the rest being rogue (climb, jump, balance, tumble, hide, move silently, perform [dance,] perform [comedy,] more based on intelligence, I'd suggest some ranks in Know (Religion) because of Kurt's piousness) I'd say rogue 8/shadowdancer x/duelist x (this needs some severe tweaking, but maybe at level 20 being a rogue 8/shadowdancer 4/duelist 8? I'm not sure about this...) He'd be Neutral Good. In terms of feats, more than you could possibly ever want/need (read: take your pick) Dodge Mobility Combat Reflexes Weapon Finesse (Above all prereqs.) Weapon Focus (Rapier) Improved Unarmed Strike Expertise Improved Disarm SKill Focus (Climb, Jump, Tumble, Hide) Um...that should be it. Thanks for asking for an X-Man in D&D terms who isn't Wolverine :D ! |
| nick01200010-10-03, 03:59 AM | Hmm... be a Githyanki from Manual of the Planes. ECL +2, but 2 HD, and Dimension Door, Telekinesis, and Mage Hand at will. |
| Lord of the Ninth10-10-03, 12:22 PM | Why not a fey'ri? I believe they can get dimension door, plus they have tails, pointed ears and a slight demonic look to them. Of course I think the dimension door might be 1/day so that might not work... I'd say shadow dancer would be the way to go. Dorkknight23, what's wrong with his portrayal in the movie? Sure they didn't show him swashbuckling, but that's just because it never came up, if you look at his profile on their site it does mention him being a good fencer. I myself you just give him weapon finesse, he probably doesn't need levels in PrC to cover it. |
| dorkknight2310-10-03, 12:47 PM | Hmm, perhaps not. Just a rogue/shadowdancer would suffice then, I just liked the idea of giving him his intelligence bonus to armor class. Okeydokey, that sounds cool too! :) Githyanki, with a little pigment difference, might work too. I hadn't thought of that. And I wasn't knocking X-2, by the by, I in fact thought they did an almost perfect job with Nightcrawler, I just wanted to represent the fencing. Gotta represent the fencing, yo. |
