This is my sword. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me my sword is useless. Without my sword, I am useless. I must swing my sword true. I must run through straighter than the enemy who is trying to kill me. I must slash him before he slashes me. I will. My sword and I know that what counts in war is not the gleam it makes or the swishes it makes. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit.

My sword is human, even as I am human, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts, its accessories, its pommel and its hilt. I will keep my sword clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other.

Before Torm, I swear this creed.

My sword and I are the defenders of my faith. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.

Such symbolic faith in a sword is more fitting for a weapon master than for a paladin I would think.

"My sword is human, even as I am human, because it is my life. "
- For a true paladin a sword would always be secondary - a mean to an end (if one would want to borrow thoughts from I. Kant).

"Without my sword, I am useless. "
- There is more to paladin's life than being with his sword. Paladin's life is a strict way to accomplish some greater good, it is more than a simple fighter's way to reach a victory. Paladin would say that without his "faith" or his "motivation" or "strive for greater good" he is useless.

The idea is great, but I've been in the army and I hardly see that "prayer" fitting for the embodiment of good. Modify it to fit idea of spirit before force of arms. The soul before materia and you have a true paladin there.

I think it is prefectly reasonable for a paladin to have a prayer for his sword, in similar lines to that of the original post. However, I think the prayer needs to be directed to the deity, not the sword itself. It should start: "Oh, Pelor, giver of light, this is my sword, which I dedicate in service unto thee..." or similar. Yes, the Paladin would have other devotions, and his first duty is to his god, however, the sword is very much a part of that (as is his armour, his horse, etc.) and a paryer incorporating it and its symbiosis with him is a great idea.
