I originally posted it in Races, but was directed here. Whatever, here we go!

Is it plausible that a Darfellan after the genocide would not only leave religion alone in bitterness, but the sea as well? What if he left the sea regions entirely to do his wandering, turning his back on it all? I think it might be an interesting concept*.

*Granted, my idea of a eunich bodyguard escorting a hot beguiler had more flavor, but my girlfriend shot that one down.

Why'd your girlfriend shoot the beguiler bodyguard idea down? I think it sounds entertaining*. That aside, without knowing what a darfellan is (probably Eberron, though), I can only say that if he was able to survive genocide, then leaving his past alone makes perfect sense to me. He would try to find a new life, away from those who wanted him dead.

*Please take note, I am also a guy, so that might explain why I like the idea.

The Darfellans are in Stormwrack and are a race of hunter-gatherers that live off the sea. They're totally black and white (black with white splotches), hairless, and built the downside to this is a decrease in dexterity. They were driven to near-extinction by the sahuagin and have been pretty humorless since then. I have been planning to make bodyguard character for my girlfriend's beguiler, and I like the thought of a Darfellan leaving his home to try something new. Why shouldn't he, if what they were doing led to that genocide. Leaving the shore and the religion of their Whale Mother, he could be free to do as he pleases and try whatever out. If I made him, he'd keep a cutlass with him from his homeland but otherwise would be part of a land-dwelling class.

What are they, half-orcas?

Think of the Whale Mother as the "Gaea" of the sea. Creator of sea-life and all that, especially porpoises, whales, and seals. No, they aren't half-orcas...but they do have a 1d6 bite attack. That is pretty cool, I've got to admit.

It sounds like a very logical thing to do, leaving the shores in search for better things. It happens all the time, just look at all the refugees from wars all around the real world. A loss of faith is very possible as well but depending on how religious the person was it could leave an empty shell of a person.
Like a man who trusted in God all his life but later as all sorts of bad things happen begins to realize that God isn't real and that all he lived for was a waste. Still that on its own has a nice roleplaying path as the person goes out to look for something else that makes life worth living.

Because of the lack of religion, my character will be devoted to three things.

First and foremost, guarding my girlfriend's character.

Second, fighting.

Third, drinking. Actually, fighting and drinking sort of tie because both can let him forget what happened. He is true neutral, though Apathetic would be more accurate. I wanted to make a warblade (though not the common variety) bodyguard and couldn't think of a race, so this works.

I imagine if anybody insults the girl he'll go into a crazy rage, or if he sees a sahuagin. In such a case, he'd probably keep the sahuagin alive for a day to torture it and use his Bite attack. Yeah....

Other than that, he's the sort of strong, silent type...doesn't need to be noticed. 16 Str (14 +2), 16 Dex (18 - 2), 16 Con (16)

He'll probably keep a cutlass from his home around. Though he doesn't want to be reminded of it, in the case he finds one of those dirty little things he'll use that. Plus, what's the use in throwing away a good weapon?

"Second, fighting." Its a little flat when its put like that. It has a ring of "Oh boy. I can't wait for the next fight so I can really let go again."
"Honing his skills until perfection seeking to balance his body with his blade." suddenly sounds a whole lot diffrent.

It may sound different, but he doesn't care about honing himself into a perfect killing machine, though that isn't bad if it happens along the way. It's that he simply doesn't care.

I didn't shoot down any bodyguard idea...just the fact that he couldn't have sex if he was a eunich. And plus, the darfellans seem kinda cold, rightfully so, but still. And it looks like a PANDA! ^_^

Fixed it!;)

You got a problem with pandas?!?

No, she likes pandas...but the thought of my awesome guy being likened to a furry (no hair for me!) and cuddly thing is too much to handle!

I could get into semantics here, but what's the problem with cuddly things? That said, pandas are too big to be cuddly. I envy those giant raccoons, not having a care in the world, doing what they please, everyone thinking I'm a bear when I'm really more of a raccoon... They must love their lives.

Truly. Worked on him some more (still nameless) with my brother (knight) and girlfriend (beguiler). Don't have feats or skills, but I think he'll do well

I'm currently playing a Stormwrack campaign, so am familiar with the Darfellan. I have to say I love the character concept!

How about adding a little survivor guilt as the basis for his three devotions? Somehow he feels responsible for the fate of his race and is trying to deny or repudiate that feeling. His devotion to duty and his readiness to "prove" his prowess in combat fit right in with this, not to mention his desire to drown his memories whenever possible.

Hehe. Thought the line "drown his memories" is ironic, and very fitting at the same time. Good stuff.
