Sorry if this is in the wrong board but I'm looking for some answers

In savage species a list is given with a starting level adjustments and starting ECL. I would like to know the impact of each of these as i am unable to folllow what is ment by each.

When a character is started with a level adjustment of +0 and an ECL of +2 what does that equal out to for a 4th level character??

Is it a LVL 4 in a class? or level 2 creature and lvl 2 in a class?

Thank you,

Bjorn the deceased.

Level Adjustment is how many extra levels your race and/or templates are worth.

Effective Character Level is what level your character is after everything is accounted for, you use this number to determine how much XP you get for an encounter and how much you need to gain a new level. Character Level + Level Ajustment = Effective Character Level.

Character Level is all of your class levels and monster hit dice added together, you use this to figure out max skill rank and when you get a feat. You count only class levels to figure out when you get to increase an ability score, however.

So if you are playing a race with ECL 2 and +0 LA, but want a 4th level character, then you need to add on 2 class levels. This race would have 2 monster hit dice, 2 class levels, +0 LA for ECL 4.

Post on the Savage Species or Races board if you are still confused.
