does your party have a healer? msot clerics are healers and your character would be a great addition if he/she could heal as well, if your party already has a healer it may be that you want to gain some of those abilities from that gods domains, gainging so casting bilities only increases your vharacetr's support abilities which the ranger uausally is unless you are the team tank,

if this doesnt help please add some more detail and by the way what god is that i havent heard of him/her

You could always say that somewhere inbetween the PC's adventures, he was out hunting and he stumbled onto a huge, wrecked temple. He walked in cautiously, fearing traps or some hellish creature. The inside of the great temple, partially looted, is still grand and full of religious splender. Some walls lay in ruins, but most of the statuary and holy artifacts remain on their pedastals and in their cases. Soft light filters in through the stained glass windows. He is struck by the beauty of the old temple, and in his mind he can see scenes of Priests holding mass, and things that go on in the church. The Priests helping villagers find safety during an undead attack, then driving them off with their righteous fury. A near-dead innocent brought back from the dead so he can help his family. He suddenly decides, that he wants to share this splendor, and help people in need. He realizes his wilderness skills might come in handy, so he decides to worship Shaundakul. He comes back to the party as a changed man, and then a further source of adventure could be finding him a mentor.

Have fun!

This is a continuation of the last post, because I can type forever!

Something else could have happened, like he was saved from death at the hands of drow raiders, and woke up to the gentle and careful ministrations of a wandering priest of Shaundakul that happened to see his mangled frame.

Or, one of his siblings was hurt when he was a child, and the priest healed him.

Maybe he just had a burst of inspiration one day.

The possibilities are endless!
