hey guys,

i guess i've become the historian of my group, cuz i'm having people ask me to get histories for their characters. But anyways, this one is for the rogue in our group. He's a lvl.5 chaotic neutral half-elf rogue who has black hair and onyx eyes. He's a loner who enjoys the spoils of a good adventure. Despite being a rogue, Dante is good in combat with his crossbow and two shortswords. I was thinking about making his history a little something like this:
Dante was always the loner. Even as a child, he rarely talked with the other children, and when he did, it was for their lunch money. Very early in his life, Dante had several run-ins with the law. Because of his young age, he was usually let off the hook rather easily.
Dante ran away from home at an early age and forgot his relatives rather easily. It was not until he was a teenager that Dante started to gain his own amount of fame.
Dante had become a world renowned theif when he was only 18 years old. This quickly caught the attention of the clergymen of the temple of Olidamarra. When they came to him with their proposal, Dante replied with silence. The Olidamarran priests figured he wasn't interested and left. When they returned, they found their most precious artifacts gone. Dante returned the next day with the artifacts, and said in a confident voice, "I think that you boys have yourself a member."

Hey Vacerious fro one more time!

Why don't you link Vacerious' (the cleric's) and Dante's stories.
Simply say that Dante had already joined Olidamara' church and had as his first task to steal something precious in order to prove himself. The silvertongued Dante then used all his skill in Diplomacy and Bluff and brought to them... Vacerious, the Planetouched.
That's how Vacerious originally joined Olidamara's cause.

That way, Dante and Vacerious have a past and can either be great friends (the most logical) or dislike each other.

How is this character a world renowned thief at just 5th level? I mean, that's quite a bit of fame/infamy for one of his level. Then again, maybe 5th level is higher then most other infamous thieves and criminals in your campaign.

Also, maybe you could give him a reason why he was such a loner and a bully as a child. Was he insecure? Was his parents abusive? It sounds like his family wasn't very loving at all, as he quickly forgot them. Maybe they treated him like streat trash, and beat up on him whenever something went wrong.

I believe a character's background should deal more with drama then fame and glory, as the latter comes more with playing the character, but the background is what gives the reasons why the character acts, thinks, and feels the way he does. Also, being halfelf tends to (depending on where he grew up and how he was raised) cause a lot of malice and prejudice from others. They're often seen as a bastard halfbreed, and many are born under less then fair circumstances, such as from an unwanted pregnancy that may have been caused by rape.

Anyway, I would just suggest to find reasons why the character's mindset and perspective on life is the way it is, and let the background give the GM some good room to work with. Who knows, maybe his family will come to his aid when he least suspects it, as a way of trying to make up for their failure to support him as a child...
