| Dorian_Gray04-13-06, 08:20 PM | Hi, this is my first post, so please don't flame me :) Anyway, our DM is making us restart our campaign, so this time I made a Level 7 Telepath, not uber-generic, but not exactly unusual. Power selection is a bit too munchkiny for my taste (the party cleric has a vendetta against me OOC, so I needed a way to deal with him), but I really like this character. My backstory is that an alchemist messed up with an experiment and permanently changed himself to a different being (think dr Jeckyll and mr Hyde) and is now living in a metropolis, using his telepathic powers to be part vigilante part sell-mind. He has also been a freelance helper of the "night watch" which is run by a charcter who is a friend of mine OOC, and we plan to be working together. What I really need your help with is a cool way to RP him. My mental scores are Int 21 (after headband and +1 for levels) Wis 8 Cha 10 And I have maxed out all my social skills. So far, I have been planning to play him as a mentat (if you've read dune) for hire, who applies his intelligence in a systematic manner in order to accomplish some goal. Very buissinesslike and cold and calculating. I plan to trust very few people (only one) and will work very efficiently. So far I have decided that he will never let anyone cast spells on him, and will do his healing via potions, (which he will check first) or by draining them with empathic transfer, hostile... However, I need some quirk, something that would be fun to roleplay, and, frankly, I am out of Ideas, please help me. Also, if anyone has any other suggestions on how to RP, please tell me. I really appreciate it. Dorian |

You have a character who is very clever but lacks in common sense and willpower. His personality is not very strong either, although he is sociable. Clearly, he wants people to like him, and is eager to please, although he could come across as manipulative. He strikes me as a character who would be employed as a consultent by the watch ... he's a bit wierd to them, but he can deliver results. He probably spends a lot of time theorising and living in his own world. Think the lead character in Numbers. He can disect any problem, but doesn't see what is under his own nose, ao act oblivious of queues at times. |

| Need_A_Life04-14-06, 05:10 PM | Focused. Not just psionically focused, but focused in general. You don't have much time to miscellaneous(sp?) sideobjectives, the mainobjective is what matters so when that is done, then we can worry about the rest. Always good for the cerebral type. |
| Jaime_Wolf04-14-06, 06:16 PM | I'd say belay that inquisitive suggestion. The PrC is fairly weak, and builds upon a feat that I personally would never allow in my game. Basically, it's a feat that helps you solve mysteries and puzzles with the rolling of dice rather than with your brain. It's sort of a like a diplomacy skill check (another skill that replaces what should be RPing, hence why I use the one found at our friend the Giant's website www.giantitp.com), but even worse. I might suggest that you simply stay a telepath. Mindspy from Complete Warrior is also an option and it makes for a decent character. |
| Dorian_Gray04-14-06, 10:17 PM | Yeah, I really like the uber-focused thing, that could also partially explain his pathetic wisdom. He is so preoccupied with his goal, he does not notice anything else. I am definately going to do that. Thanks. I wrote up my backstory/description, I am not a very good writer, so please pardon me for that, but still, here: A tall, slender man stands before you. His ash gray hair is neatly combed to one side, and his deep blue eyes are sharp and focused. Tastefully dressed in a gray and white outfit, he looks like some sort of upper class businessman, except for several slight details. Under his clothing, chain mail can be heard clinking very gently. He has two stunning crystals on his person. One hangs around his neck, radiating a very gentle golden color. The other is a small diamond in one of his hands. It moves like a spider on ectoplasmic legs around his body, though it spends most of its time on his shoulder, although during negotiations and such, he keeps it hidden. Dorian has a strange past, even he has not fully understood it. As a young man, he was an alchemist, one of the best in halcyon. Then he found something. He discovered a way to make himself into a different form entirely, an exaggeration of himself. While he was smart, this new persona was simply brilliant. While he was inattentive, this new form could barely see. At first, he maintained control, but the more he used this alter-ego, the more of it transferred to his original personality, until only the exaggeration remained. As his former self faded, his new powers became apparent. Minds of man became playthings for him, easily manipulated and destroyed. He eventually drifted into the inner city, where his talents could be used to their fullest. During his mercenary career, he has met the night watch whose methods he approves, and who he has been helping as a freelance agent. He has grown to have a distrustful alliance with their leader, who dislikes Dorian’s methods, but can not deny their unparalleled effectiveness. Solus has never been overly kind or evil, and has never followed an orthodox path. The trauma of his transformation left him uncaring and cold. He has a very analytical mind, which he has applied effectively to his chosen career. A problem of his is that he is often too focused on a specific task, so much so that he becomes oblivious to everything around him Despite this, he has earned a rather fearsome reputation. |
