| goneorn10-30-07, 08:33 PM | I am a little confused. In the complete mage, the Abjurant Champion, list mage armor as one the spells they rely on in the section labeled “Abjurant Armor (class feature)”. But it is not an abjuration spell. The big problem I am having is that the section on this talks about how this class feature adds to these spells. Does this class feature work on mage armor spell, as it is a conj. spell? If it does not, there might me a lack of AC for the class as it’s a fighter type that does not wear armor. I found the Customer Service email addy in the officail 3.5 FAQ and the addy thay is listed got bounced back as not good. So I am here asking. The build I am going for is Pally 5/Sorcerer 1/Abjurant Champion 2. I am not sure if important, but I am using a Sorcerer variant, Blood of Siberys (Dragon 351 p79). The big thing about this variant is that I give up my familiar for "Your Charisma is effectively +4 for the purpose of receiving extra Sorcerer spells and the maximum Sorcerer spell level you can cast." But thats just background for my question (see above). -John |
| goneorn10-30-07, 08:44 PM | Just an FYI, this character is to be a major role-playing character. The problem is, that when it comes to combat, I have to contend with other characters that love to read the OP boards. So if mage armor wont work, I need some type of idea on how to get some ac. Thanks. |

The short answer is no-- though they are releasing an erratta for the book soon, so it is possible it might be revised slightly. If you take the Arcane Preparation feat, you could use the Luminous Armor spells in place of Mage Armor, however. Paladin 4/Sorcerer 2/Abjurant Champion 2 would have access to 2nd level spells and the first version of the spell. It would last for 8 hours a day, and by the time you finished off Abjurant Champion you would be up to 22 hours a day and would only need one more spellcasting level to have the 4th level version, which is equivalent to full plate. |

| CrimsonDeath10-31-07, 01:15 AM | I believe Arcane Preparation is in Complete Arcane, and Luminous Armor (along with the Greater version) is in Book of Exalted Deeds. Or you could buy a +X Twilight Mithral Chain Shirt. 0% Arcane Spell Failure. |
| goneorn10-31-07, 01:27 AM | After looking in the book, Luminous Armor spells cant be cast by a Sorcerer and cost 1d2 str each time its cast? |
| CrimsonDeath10-31-07, 01:24 PM | After looking in the book, Luminous Armor spells cant be cast by a Sorcerer and cost 1d2 str each time its cast? The first part is solved by Arcane Preparation. That feat allows you to prepare spells you know, as a Wizard does, largely for the purpose of casting Metamagic spells without increasing their casting time. Since you don't need to know a Sanctified spell in order to prepare it, so a Sorcerer who can prepare spells should have access to it. As for the Strength damage, you're a Paladin. Just cast Lesser Restoration on yourself. |
