| SirRolandGrant06-27-03, 09:28 PM | I have come up with a character concept that I need to elaborate. Raymond Lanchaster Tair Baleford is an air genasi who grew up with formal "fighter" training. However, at 16 he finally is able to go study at a Wizard University in Haluraa. So then he is a Wizard who does not want to be known as a fighter. The other PCs wont know he is going to take levels in fighter. I am starting at level 1 with wizard. So it is going to take some time to get him up to where i want him. The way I see him is flamboyant and showy about his Wizard abilities. He will shun his fighter history, but when backed into a corner, he will pull out his long sword and (hopefully) be able to kick what ever is the problem. My problem is with his personality. I want him to be a ... well, ecentric character. He wears a Dark blueish gray robe, has white hair, Stormy blue eyes, and sky blue skin. Keeping with Air Genasi characteristics, his hair will be slightly below the shoulders and unkept, giving him a ragged look. I want people to be interested in him, but at the same time, he is not the type of a person you just go up to and start talking. Or if you did, he would talk down to you. He is not a personable person. What do you think? and how can you help? Thanks |

As for being interested in him, I'd say that NPCs would quite probably be very much wondering what this characters deal is, but very very few would ever dare approach, so if not finding out about the interest is OK, I'd say you're fine on that count already. If you want a bit more attention, be obnoxious. When ordering an ale, don't just order an ale.....smash your staff on the table and shout "Bring me an ale, barkeep." Follow long periods of silence with loud declarations that surprise. |

| Otto the Bugbear06-27-03, 10:17 PM | If you really want to keep the long sword, just take the easy way out when describing why you have it. Lie. "This is my father's sword. I wear it to honor his memory. Next question!" Another was one I did quite some time ago. Ended up being one of my favorite characters. Straight classed wizard, but he made double sure he didn't look like one on first glance. Carried a short sword, several daggers showing, and a buckler dangling off the short sword's hilt. No robes, no staffs, familiar was a dog, tried to disguise the fact that his backpack carried a spellbook, and other things like that. When anyone asked, he claimed that he was a scout (and everyone assumed thief), but once battle commenced, the sword and buckler stayed put and the spells started flying. Not precisely the direction you're going, but you could convince everyone that you only wear it for show. If they've ever discovered that you lied, just keep with the suggestions that Augustus Semaphore gave for personality. ::: after a battle which the "wizard" slays somone with his longsword ::: PC: You said that was just for show and you don't know how to use it! Wizard: Correct! PC: But you lied to us! Wizard (with disgust because someone that just stated the obvious): Yes I did. (Then walks away, ending the discussion.) Random quotes may be another good way to express the flighty, ethereal nature of an air gensai. Take a little more prep, but have a list of quotes that pertain to nothing and spout them off at odd times. Perhaps without regard to who is around or what situation the party is in. Cheers Otto :) |
