| deskr09-15-05, 04:50 PM | I am having trouble with alignments. I understand the basics of most I think, but I have a character (or rather, my friend does) that we really don't quite know how approach. Maybe a little backstory first... Leyna is a conniving, greedy, rogue. Everything she does is driven by her greed; she cares not who lives, dies, or gets hurt so long as she gets what she wants. She won't go stabbing somebody in the back for no reason, but if she determines that they are of no use, except that they have a big purse, she'll knife 'em and take the purse. The only real exception to this is her brother. She'll exploit him at every opportunity, but she would never deliberately hurt him or put him in too much danger. Leyna's brother isn't too bright, and he's loyal to a fault. He''l do anything Leyna asks, and without question. he wouldn't hurt a small furry animal, but he has no qualms about smashing something that is causing Leyna discomfort. My trouble is, what would the brother's alignment be? He's a pretty good sort, but even if Leyna told him to murder an innocent for no reason at all (not that she'd do that, but just for example) he'd probably do it, though that's something he'd definitly not enjoy, and he'd regret it even before doing it. Would that be a lawful, since he's following the "I do what she says" code? Or chaotic because he does things even when he really doesn't want to? I'm thinking maybe that's a chaotic good? I'd really appreciate any insights. |

If that's the case probably true neutral since he doesn't have the capacity to distinguish right from wrong, just enough capacity to have the most basic empathy skills. If he's not mentally handicapped I'd say LN. He follows a code (his sister) but isn't concerned enough with right or wrong to make his own decisions. Evil alignment would mean that he would want to hurt others, good alignment would mean he wouldn't hurtd others unless necessary (self defence, etc.). |

| The Smartest Lemming09-16-05, 04:40 PM | The Sister sounds like a Neutral Evil person to me, maybe with a bit of chaotic in her, where as the brother sounds like True neutral in general, and Lawful Neutral with anything concerning his sister. |
