Hello,

I've made a character who's very nice to 'normal' people and stuff, he makes personal sacrifices, like a good character would do, all that kind of stuff. But he has one nasty trait: he thinks evil should be punished in the worst way. When he lays his hands on some evil humanoid or some other intelligent evil being, he wants to torture it to death, in the most painful way. Or do some other horrible thing to it. Now what would you make the alignment of this guy? and why? I really wouldn't know

LE probably. He's lawful and has a place in society but takes pleasure in inflicting pain on other sentient beings.

LE seems to fit best. Whether a person is doing evil in a good cause or doing evil in an evil cause, it is still evil.

You could be LN. The key is how you feel about it. If you see evil as being so terrible that it must be punished - even if that punishment is, itself, a horrible thing - but you find having to do it a burden, say, you're looking at LN. You're crossing a line, but you know you're crossing it, and you wouldn't if you could see another way. Likewise, if you believe in the ideals of good, but find yourself driven by rage to go too far in punishing those who willfully flaunt and oppose those ideals, you could be LN - you'd be good, but you don't have quite the moral courage to be as forgiving as a truely good character would be. If, OTOH, you see evil beings as convenient victims - since no one cares about them, and they deserve punishment - upon whom you can vent your sadistic urges without consequence, then, yeah, you're evil, yourself.
