| TheAnthroDM06-26-07, 06:59 PM | I need help on added some flavor to the following three Warlocks, who are intended to be very long term NPCs in my upcoming campaign. Feraess(Krazmaith) NE High Elf Cleric of Krazma* 3/Warlock 2/ Eldritch Disciple 3 Head of the Akran Mages Guild and secret cult leader of Krazma* though noone in the local populous(and mage guild) simply view him as a kind hearted nobleman. He gained his guild status by uprooting a Cult of Nerul and destroying it's members.(Necromancy is forbidden in Akran but worship of evil deities is not.) He is a known bigot among the Mages Guild believing only Elves and Half-Elves have a right to use magic, and he's also part of WAEM(Warlock As Equal Mages) but professes to be a Sorcerer. (He possess a skill trick that allows his invocations to be misread as spells) Problem: I have listed his background and his goals, but I have not been able to develop a personality for him... nor a name. (ASA 101 phrases for a deceiving Cult Leader) *Krazma is a Pit Fiend(Warlock 20) who grants trusted followers admission into the Warlock class. He does not(and can not) grants divine spells, but his cleric drawl their power from Baator. Grat-zon CE Human Warlock X+3(Average Party Level +3)(6-23) Grat-zon is a disciple of Krazma. He's also a renegade bandit. He operates solely in the region of Akran, and how he gets by stealing from three farm and four towns would be a mystery if it wasn't for his means of persuasion. Unlike most Warlocks who worship Krazma, Grat-zon is actually a descended of the the fiend, and has inherited a signature means of Eldritch blasts, specifically, shooting an orb of energy out of his mouth. He first takes Eldritch Essenses and Blast Shapes to augment his signature power. Anyone who refuses to give Grat-zon what he wants end up on the wrong end of this spittle. So far this has only happened a few times, but all the local security services have a massive reward offered for anyone who can put Grat-zon in custody(with something to keep his mouth shut perferably). Problem: This Warlock also his own selfish ways lined out, but his personality and character quirks remain a blank sheet.(101 Reasons to go psychopathic and raid nearby villages) Warlock in need or renaming. LE High Elf Warlock X(Average Party Level)(3-20) A member of WAEM and a fey-blooded warlock. He professes to only know a few invocations and mainly be a sorcerer. He is set on proving that Warlocks are equal to all other spellcasters. Using his variety of invocations to show that Eldritch blast is simply on of many tools a Warlock can use. Problem: Okay, this ones a little easier, the only thing I don't have on this character is a background and a few quirks.(ASA 101 character quirks for the stereotypical spellcaster) Anything I made unclear just say and I'll add it. A simply outline of the Invocation lists can be found in the second post. |

| Terjon of the Blue Rose07-09-07, 06:38 AM | I would make Grat-zon a lazy, low ambition character who sees his power as giving him the right to do pretty much as he pleases. He has more than enough personal power to start recruiting lackeys or other brigands but he just doesn't care enough. He prefers to terrorize a small populace rather than set his sights on bigger targets because it's less work. Against a small village he alone is capable of taking pretty much whatever he wants but against a more powerful force he would need to organize a proper force of backers. |

Interesting, this fits to how I played him last session(the parties first encounter with him). I first time they saw him he had just ransacked a house, kill both of the Regional Guards(in two rounds) before dashing away with his prize. He didn't do any unnecessary killing not because. Next time he was seen robing the Tavern the PCs were staying at, the PCs initiated a fight Grat-zon fought back, but when reduced to 1/3 of his HP(By a impressive critical and several jets of steam) he simply knocked the one if front of the door prone and fled. Now he has a opposing force within his reaches, so I'm thinking of having him use his empty feat slot(Miscalculation on my part) to begin recruiting bandits to assist him in disposing of this new threat, of course, this doesn't mean he won't dispose of them when they fail to be useful. |
| Terjon of the Blue Rose07-12-07, 01:14 AM | If you really want to have fun try subtley letting the PCs learn that they are the reason he keeps getting stronger. He doesn't really feel the need to gain strength on his own but needs it to defeat them and get back to his easy life. Can be accomplished through any number of old author's conviniences up to and including a revocation of bounty based on the fact that increased bounties only seem to increase how dangerous he becomes or even rants from Grat himself. |
