I want to make my newest character based on a picture from either Races of Faerun or the DMG. Don't ask me why, they've just captured my imagination somehow - I wanted to make a half elf bard and Devis seemed like the most obvious role model:

Especially as in this picture where he actually looks good . . .

But then I saw this picture in RoF:

And I think this guy is pretty cool, too . . . being a half drow in our campaign might be interesting.

So, based on the art, which guy would you rather have in your party?

The half-drow guy looks a lot of fun to be around, but as always...."I aint hanging around with no stinking drow!"
But then people hating you makes for a much more fun experience! *Remebers the joys of being hated when my avariel was polymorphed into a drow....*

How about this one?

Bard (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/EPIC_Gallery/Gallery1/44199_C1_bard.jpg)

and here (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/EPIC_Gallery/Gallery1/44201_C1_tumble.jpg)

I think that one is really cool. And he could be a half elf.

If not, then I think you should go for the half drow.

I'll start off with picture number 2. It's hard to tell much from the picture because it looks "posed." At least I hope it's posed, because with smiles like that I'd worry ... a lot. Personally she worries me more than he does ... and I'm not sure about the dire rat in the picture either. The more I stare at the image the more "Joker" comes to my mind.

Devis never really captures my imagination and the picture, which uses five immovable rods (only four are really needed, or actually three) doesn't show the fact that he still has to reach down to keep picking up the bottom rod to move it to the top.

So I'd probably play the half drow. One last thought to consider, notice that the drow bard is wearing leather gloves. That's an interesting thing, considering that leather gloves would make it hard to play the instrument he is wearing. So when making the character try to come up with a reason for why he wears gloves.

I really like the images suggested by Mr. VanderMeer - especially the first one. Nice!
