Hi,
I am currently playing a goblin sorceror who has a bad case of amnesia so that he neither remembers who he is nor that he has magical abilities, so his spells are triggered subconsciously or through emotions. Last session we did get so far to make him realize he is a goblin, however.

Now I am a bit stuck on how to develop this character. I could make him be the annoying goblin that has all kinds of strange things happen to him (elf aims bow at him and bow slips out of elf's hands [grease spell]), but that will get old after 2 or 3 sessions. Has anybode got good suggestions?

He's going to need still &silent spell to pull that off. Also, eschew materials. That's his feats at 1, 3 and 6 taken care of... bit of a hefty investment; have you thought of a prestige class?

Hi,
I have Eschew Materials. Concerning the others, we houseruled it to fit the character concept. Since the excels at absolutely nothing, we did not find it unbalancing. The character has been played for 1 session so far, and it did not seem to be game-breaking.

He gets to cast stilled, silent spells for free?

This is a lot more powerful than it sounds.

1) He can wear armour without any spell failure chance - this would still penalise his attack roll to hit... but see below.

2) Still + Silent to me says stealth caster + wish fulfillment says mind control.

3) Does he still provoke an AOO for casting in a threatened area? If not, this is extremely powerful (and if he does provoke, how is that explained within character concept)

As your campaign sounds like it's using more flavour than many kick-in-the door campaigns, perhaps you could load up on direct effect (including some mind-affecting) spells. Things that don't need a roll to hit in any way. Explain it as others bad luck - grease is a perfect example.

Bestow Curse, Charm Person, etc. A little subtleness goes a long way.

Hi,

Basically, yes.

1) He can wear armour without any spell failure chance - this would still penalise his attack roll to hit... but see below.

He's a goblin. In rags. With a spoon. And a rope. I cannot find any motivation for him to wear armor.

2) Still + Silent to me says stealth caster + wish fulfillment says mind control.

Maybe this was not as explicit as I wanted it to be in my previous posts, but this character is a confused weak goblin that happens to walk into trouble wherever he is. He is more concerned with what the hell is going. Stealth is not on his mind at all (except for the "frightened little guy hiding behind a rock hoping the guys with the pointed sticks dont notice him" kind of stealth)

3) Does he still provoke an AOO for casting in a threatened area? If not, this is extremely powerful (and if he does provoke, how is that explained within character concept)

This situation has not come up yet, but I guess he would simply cause an AOO, since his spells usually look like accidents. Like when he turns and runs from an ambush, trips over his feet and the rope in his hands entangles the opponent (animate rope).

As your campaign sounds like it's using more flavour than many kick-in-the door campaigns, perhaps you could load up on direct effect (including some mind-affecting) spells. Things that don't need a roll to hit in any way. Explain it as others bad luck - grease is a perfect example.

Yes, Charm Person is a good idea, I will pick it up the next time I get a 1st level slot.

Thanks for your input,
