So I had this half-Retired incredibly high-level Swashbuckler Paladin/Mage (of Wee Jas, used the same stance as Paramanders of Azuth) who was constantly mocked irreverently for being a "bard", an utter fop, from the world of Oerth. He made his way to Sigil, and was content to being semi-retired as a member of the Fraternity of Order, with occasional duties from the Order of the Planes Militant. He's done alot, including adventured in the Realms as a Corsair along the Sword Coast. He picked up a Tressym as a Familiar, who had a habit for Running Numbers and setting up Betting Rings. During the course of his Adventures he came upon the language of the Aleph, and a brief reference to the Three Words. While not knowing the words himself, he came upon the knowledge of how to acquire them, and was named the Guardian of that Forbidden Lore.

That being said, I got convinced to "restart" him in 3.5 Forgotten Realms. What follows is the breakdown: His Ladylove got kidnapped in reprisal of a deal that went bad with Shemeska the Marauder (he was working for her on a "good" assignment as a freelancer, got wise to the ramifications, and pulled a switch which cost her time, money and reputation). It was revolving around an artifact known as the Tome of Silver Shadows, a book of prayers, spells and lore associated with an elder Mood God whose clergy dabbled in dark arts. In addition, it was one of the locations of the Lore behind the Three Words. Having recovered this Tome from a Corrupted Priesthood of Isis (the priests had been Driven Mad by reading it) he was trying to setup a trade-off to the Clergy of Selune, and unbeknownst to him Shemeska sold the info to Sharrans. Since she was his source in the first place, and because Shemeska was all for playing both sides against each other, profitting and handing off a fake, or recovering the real one later, she felt slighted by Sorin's interference in the deal, and it ends with him stashing the Tome someplace Creative and Wild, leading him into a Han Solo vs Jabba the Hutt situation with Shemeska. She retaliates by promptly kidnapping his beloved and framing the Sharrans for it. This keeps them off of her back, keeps Sorin occupied with an evil clergy on his tail, and prevents him from going to the Selunites, who hold -him- responsible for the Theft of the Tome. Delicious Revenge.

Unable to seek assistance from Selune, he had a Follower who was a Priestess of Sune Firehair. Communing with the Goddess, he offers service, reverence and tribute if she will help him save his Ladylove.

The Commune ends with Sune's Avatar sending an image of her posing into his mind, wearing his Beloved's features (She would -have- to be a redhead of course). "What would you give for me, Sorin Starke?"

"Everything!"

Sorin wakes up in Faerun, a young swashbuckler with little recollection of his earlier life in Flanaess as a Paladin, and none of his life on the Planes, in the Silver Marches, just outside of Silverymoon.

((The DM for this campaign has already been running with this. For each level of experience Sorin acquires, he unlocks the memories of a year of his life before, and so on. The Maiden of Love apparently redistributed many of his more important memories among the higher levels of her clergy, so Sorin must both adventure and go on Pilgrimages to unlock it all and put the pieces of his past together. In ensuing months Sune has briefly gone into hiding (a la War of the Spider Queen) having almost anhilated herself in an attempt to get the knowledge of the Three Words herself. What can I say? She's a chaotic risk-taker and a willfull individual. Sorin, remembering his guardianship of that, but not the reason he did all this, is ready to half-throttle "his" own goddess, once she gets herself back together.))

*bump*

Any suggestions? Anyone? (apologies for redundancy last time I'll post on this . . . wanted to know if I was "jumping the shark" with this storyline)

Don't know FR well enough to make suggestions, but for general style it looks good.
