| Artisan10-22-06, 01:04 PM | I'm joining a game of D&D tomorrow, and I was thinking of playing a Fighter, a relatively simple, if tactical, character for me to get my teeth into. And then I saw, sitting on my shelf, The Book of Exalted Deeds, and the image of a warrior wearing nothing but simple clothes, wielding a plain, unadorned sword fighting off the minions of Evil filled my mind. I like the idea of a man simpoly taking his sword up to 'fight the good fight' - perhaps a formerly corrupt Mercanary who's trying to repent for his past sins by forsaking material possessions? Would you let this sort of character into your game? |
| Cherubaddon10-22-06, 01:19 PM | You mean, allow it as a DM? Hell, yeah! I mean, somebody who has the courage to forsake material possessions as a fighter just has to be allowed. A monk with this vow might be not so special, nor perhaps a druid or a sorcerer, but a fighter? You will face serious problems but, especially in a good party, it might be great fun. I support the idea! Have fun with him! |

| Cherubaddon10-22-06, 05:18 PM | I am pretty sure it means "non-masterwork", so normal longsword should work. Check with your DM, but there shouldn't be a problem. |
| Fithero10-22-06, 09:15 PM | Yeah, i had a similar idea as this, i was going to take a Barbarian with vow of poverty and vow of silence. He'd just walk around with his spear and silently help people.... people who'd usually try and run because of his extremly savage appearance. But yeah, as the vow of poverty goes, you can only use simple weapons... so, no longswords sorry:weep: Good luck with it, which (if any) god will you follow? Peace |

| Fithero10-22-06, 11:30 PM | And you get your roleplaying XP for saying nothing?:D Yeah, im going to have him mime his intentions (cos he cannot read or write remember:P) and stay out of pointless converstions... or just growl :P Peace |
| shaynajassan10-24-06, 08:12 PM | I've played an asectic fighter myself. The biggest issue (mechanics-wise) is dealing with a crappy AC. He used a quarterstaff and followed the dodge tree of feats to compenstate for his lack of armor. The rp reason for his lifestyle was he admired the asectic monks. But he lacked the perception and wits to be accepted (i.e he had a low wisdom score) so he did his best without monk training. |
