| Philusion09-16-04, 07:33 PM | I'm in the process of creating the background story for my player character, who grew up in Suzail, Comyr (in the Forgotten Realms). Basically, he was left for dead in a side-alley, but was found by a young human couple before he died from the elements. I'm also a GM though, and my campaign has gotten rather hectic lately, so I'm pressed for time in thinking up unique ideas in how he was raised, the mindset he would've adopted, the cruelty he endured, etc etc. Any ideas would be wonderful. Thanks! |
| Philusion09-16-04, 07:36 PM | I have the following so far: It was a cold winter evening, and a newly wed couple were walking home after purchasing supplies for their small business. They recently discovered that they couldn’t have children, which didn’t help their normally jolly demeanor during the peak business hours of the day. As they were passing through the nobility district within the Suzail metropolis, they began to hear a soft muffled cry near one of the darker alleyways. Investigating, they discovered a newborn elf child wrapped tightly in a blanket, laying in the bottom of an empty water barrel, who’d apparently been left to die. Compassion was in the air as they realized that this could be the answer to their dilemma. Taking the baby home, they nursed him back to health and adopted the elf as their own. Edit: As a side note, the character is starting out as a chaotic good rogue. He specializes in the dagger, and has a good score in Dex, Int, and Cha. He tends to be overly polite but is somewhat paranoid. He relies on wit and speed over sheer skill and strength. He is an elf that is torn between what his natural instincts are (as an elf) and what he learned to be by personal experience and upbringing. Suggestions, anyone? |

Even if they live to old age, the elf will be barely into his adolescence won't he? 2. Why won't any elves come by to seek out such a person and try to re-elf them. 3. Will the character be seriously screwed up by not being raised in a forrest and naturaly environment that his people are accustomed but soulless city? |

Which would be interesting...they may have adopted other children as well, who were likely human, and grew up and left the house before the elf could even be allowed to do things by himself, due to his immature child-like nature. 2. I'm sure there are/could be a variety of reasons. Maybe his parents didn't want him 'corrupted' by elven society, and possibly taken away from them. Maybe the elves that noticed how different he was avoided him, even shunned him. Maybe the child himself didn't trust anybody, possibly because he was treated so differently than any of the others, which would make sense because as others grew up, he stayed a child. 3. Haha, seriously screwed up? It's possible :) Which is why I'm looking for the right mindset for the character, as well as some possible personality flaws, etc. That's the whole point, really. I don't want to play anything resembling a cliche character...I want to have a history the GM can have tons of fun with, as well as using it in shaping the elf's mindset, perspective, motives, etc. into a very unique character. |
