I was thinking of an npc who could possible be the coolest npc ever ok, he is a dopplegager rouge/chameleon (races of destiny) who appears to the pcs multiple times, as a differnt persona or one they already know each time also the chameleons are assassins so some personas might help them if it works for him, or he could try to kill them with a differnt persona if they get in the way, any ideas

A fun twist is have some of the persona's work against each other. I once had a malcavian in a vamp game that had two personas. One persona was a ventrue, the other was a gangrel. And I had great fun getting other players embroiled in the power play between these two characters in the background of the main plot.

Or, take a page from the Prisoner/B5. Come up with a tagline, like "Be seeing you", that the NPC uses whenever the PC's talk to him. Just a subtle consistancy that attentive PCs can pick up on.

Not a bad idea, and if it also shows his authenticity I think I might use that. Also the catch phrase is a great idea Ijust need to think of a good one thats not to obvious.

I have a good idea for a persona. I have not really worked on it yet though. It is just a good idea.

If you have shifters in the campaign then you could do a shifter barbarian. This way if you put them in a fight they can shift and it will hopefully make th PCs believe it more; than just a lot seemingly different human who are different classes.

Your doppleganger could be in love with one of the PCs. It's not totally contradictory if the doppleganger is paid to delay or confused the PCs, not actually kill them. Each time he/she meets that specific PC, the doppleganger makes some good compliments. The PC will think everyone loves him, but in fact it's just one creature who loves him!
A few thing the doppleganger could do:
- As a waitress, drop non-lethal poison in a PC's food;
- As a wizard, ask them to secure a bezoar (sp?), and tell them they can find one in the middle of a marsh;
- As a guard officer, ask them to spy a suspect noble (who's only desperately boring);
- As a ranger, tell them some area is plagued by a chimera (in fact, the most dangerous predator in the area is a housecat).

I might just use that one in my campaign. Because one of my cities is saltmarsh (DMG2) and that is by a swamp/marsh. so that will be a good adventure hook.

Another way you could use him is to have him help the PCs as several different characters.
- As a ranger/scout, be a guide in a dangerous swamp
- As several different clerics, heal them
- As a bard of artificer, boost them or their weapons

Ok so I used the the cameleon as the wizard and it work out just as I had planned.

But my PCs want to know more about this guy.

So he is a human wizard who is about 5'3' (yeah short) who has lost one arm so he can not go out to the swamp as often as he wants. But I need a better story so I can get him involved more in the game.

Can you help me. And can you help me develope other backrounds for other NPCs that the doppleganger can play.
