Ok, here's the scoop:

I'm a half-celestial human warrior of an ancient order called the Trinity Knights. They were dedicated to the defense of a kingdom in Faerun, SouthWest of the Anauroch.

At one point during their successful defense of the royalty, the lord of the trinity knights fell in love with the royal princess he was a protector of. As a result, he swore a new loyal oath for the Trinity Knights to forever protect the royal family. A subtle, but extremely significant difference from the previous oath to protect the kingdom and it's peoples.

Shortly thereafter, the kingdom was invaded and a devil kidnapped the princess and left Toril. The Trinity Knights, loyal to their word to the end, split up and built citadels on dozens of planes as outposts for exploration to find the lost princess. I was one such knight, posted to Elysium. In my relaxed state, posting my guard at the citadel, hundreds of years passed. 800, to be more precise. An adventuring party happened upon a portal to the citadel in a related plot (I won't go into it) and I found myself on the road again, albeit much weaker than my previous status (Elysium has a way of making you forget....).

I became furious upon the realization of what had happened. Tyr's blind law had forced my brothers to follow their oath and be skattered to the planes. I became bitter with Tyr, and left his worship.

Now I find myself back in Toril, but hundreds of years later. I have some of my old equipment, and plenty of frustration. The world has changed since I left it. I find myself looking to other philosophies, other dogmas. The one of Kossuth looks dangerously appealing to the embittered....Life makes you stronger through pain. The worthy will lead because they survived, etc.

Other than that, I'm pretty much lost. I'll be joining another group with this character soon, and I'm concerned b/c I'm having trouble coming up with an appropriate outlook/deity/code of laws, etc. I like the idea of being an inquisitor of sorts for Kossuth, but I'm not sure how that would play, or what my "law" would be...

Thoughts?

Impressive....62 views and not a single reply.

You'd think I asked someone to solve an np unsolvable equation or something.

This is a pretty on-topic thread....on the correct boards....

I think most of the post viewers are not sure of what you want exactly...
Kossuth being a TN Elemental deity, worshipped as well by LG than CE populations, I'm not sure what could be the use of an inquisitor...

What is your character class? It might help to make suggestions...

ok it seems that character had his will broken

his friends scattered to the planes

no sign of the princess

the world has changed a lot

He is bitter at tyr and maybe deep down
he feels he has failed his mission as well

now you seek a motivation to devote yourself to
but perhaps at the begining at least you dont need one

maybe the party needs a guide in their mission and you know the way and so you half heartedly agree to guide them while you do some soul searching..

i would recomend being a paladin even if for a while (at least until you atone) you wont have access to your paladin abilities just for the role playing oportunities it would bring

as to things that could motivate you again

Word of the princess still alive and captive in some plane.

Word of a former friend who has also turned his back upon tyr and became a blackguard terrorising the old kingdom showing you a distant image of what you could become.

Finding an evil temple in ruins after it was destroyed long ago by adventurers on it you could find information about the former princess now a demon who was vanquished a long time ago but in the not so distant future the planets will be aligned right for her return..

etc. etc. etc..

talk with your dm im sure he can incorporate some plot after talking to you

hope it helps

Ok, well he was much stronger, but as I said, Elysium has a way of letting those old fighting skills drift away...

Now, Ftr4/Knight Protector 3/Planar Champion 3.

Soul Lord, thanks for your input as well. Here's some additional thoughts from my end:

I like the more edgy feel of Kossuth as a deity for him. A jaded person might take a more "might makes right and ideals be damned" view after one's ideals led to downfall.

Despite this view, I don't think a full decent into evil is in character, though it could be a threat (nice idea with the blackguard).

Do you think a different deity would be more appropriate? Would the Fire Lord care about anyone other than elemental fire creatures worshiping him?

If thats the way about how you feel about society
in general. why not turn your back on all?

go barbarian.

include a deity like malar or something similar

never to be bound again by the rules of civilisation
take what you want when you want it!

try to show other how much happier and free you are now

Actually, I like Kossuth as new god for your character: the destruction aspect suit your character wrath for having been forgotten on Elyseum for a so long time, while the renewal aspect express his quest for a new ideal. It's just the concept of an inquisitor that I don't like.

Like SoulLord said, your character could be searching what happened to your former order. It's truely credible that one of them could have turn into a blackguard or deathknight, if he had to guard a keep on a Lower Plane. Speak of this with your DM, it could even be the leader of the order who turned evil, and now he is gattering his former friends to raise an army. Having already turned your back to Tyr, you are somewhat immune against his corruption, and the only one to stop him.

EXACTLY what I was trying to convey Morka, thank you.

Now, where I'm struggling is how would a creature with an immortal outlook on existence (being half-celestial) and this broken past ACT on a daily basis with "normal" mortal PCs?

I'm having trouble with the day-to-day mannerisms and concepts to really USE all this great background material.

you could look at the other races somhow like some elves do

if you get close to them you'll get hurt as they'll die long before you.

with all of your years of experience you definitely know a better solution than the one the party proposes...
ex:
pc1: y saw we chase the demon and fight him
you: tsk tsk tsk if you do that youll fall right into his trap i remember this time.............................

An interesting approach, though even elves lifespans are short compared to an immortal.

Roleplaying the attitude and world-view with immortality (note I didn't not say invincibility...Galadrond can most certainly be killed) as your lifespan?

The barbarian response is a bit extreme. Society, after all, isn't what he's rebelling against, it's blind law and Tyr in particular. Kossuth is a good representation of Chaos, but I wonder if I could get any divine power from him as a cleric since I'm not of the elemental plane of fire.

Despite being immortal your life has been pretty dull. You've been stuck for hundreds of years. You'll probably be happy to be around mortals. They have so much drive and experience so much. It rubs of on you and you also want to live ife to the fullest. You might like their enthusiasm.

Or you go the other way, you see the characters' drive as useless. Their lives are to short to reach their goals. You could be a bit stoic, caring only about matters that have a very long-term impact.

One other possibility: Hoar (aka Assuran of the Three Thunders). Tyr is the god of justice, but Hoar is the god of retribution. This makes for a slight connection between your character's old faith and his new one, and it leaves open the possibility of future redemption, if that's something that interests you.

FWIW.
