And then a level of Cleric Happens.... [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-25-07, 12:55 PM I created a character for my friend and my stipulations from him was to make it strange and powerful. So here's the build:

Feral Thri-Kreen Cleric 1 / Stone Blessed 3 / Goliath Barbarian 4 / Fighter 2

The level of Cleric was to get access to the True Strike and Enlarge Person spells; couldn't find a god though that granted the Fate and Strength domain.

Now for why I'm here. Part of the fun for me when making a build such as this is coming up with a backstory to make sense with it.

Here are the ideas I already have in point form:

He was born a feral Thri-kreen, always wild and disliked by the colony. As a result he was sent on many trading and hunting missions.
And then a level of Cleric happens to some unnamed God.
It was somewhat of a relief when he decided to join the tribe of Goliaths because he enjoyed their way of like better. Going on many missions to liberate Goliath slaves from giants.
Captured by giants and enslaved and taken from his lands.
Bought by an evil wizard from the giants and dominated and trained as a body guard; given all exotic equipment by wizard (Large size Jopar; a sword favoured by Eladrin)
Liberated by a group of adventurers, joins them; given a "normal name"
Becomes bored and returns to the wild
Then the group of current adventures find him

So any ideas on explaining away that level of Cleric; I came up empty.

08-25-07, 10:07 PM I'm guessing your Intelligence and Charisma aren't high enough for a level of Wizard or Sorceror to grant access to the spells in question.

Incidentally, who are you planning to cast Enlarge Person on? (Thri-Kreen are Monstrous Humanoids, so it won't work on your character himself.)

08-25-07, 11:26 PM Goliath are almost universally competitive athletes right? You wandered into the mountains, lost, and found a tribe. You would compete with the massive creatures in running and jumping competitions until, astounded by your natural prowess at such, they decided to make you one of them. The level of cleric was part of the training you underwent in order to reach full acceptance of the tribe before undergoing the rituals they place on stoneblessed.

Dammit. So I guess huge size is out; at least large still "works". Fate was really the important Domain really (none of the Goliath gods have it though)

The other trouble is that Cleric is rare for Goliaths and feral doesn't fit with the clerical life style.

08-26-07, 02:21 AM Have you considered favored soul instead. Works even better for the story I gave since you may have been blessed by one of the goliath gods and that is how you joined the tribe.
