I was debating over in the CO forums about fighters and their usefulness (or lack thereof) and came up with this build.

Lesser Aasimar (28pt buy)
Str 14(6), Dex 14(6), Con 14(6), Int 14(6), Wis 10, Cha 14(4)
Level Increase stats go to Charisma.
Int 14 needed for skill pts to qualify for the prestiege classes.

Alignment (any good)

Progression
Fighter 4 / Sanctified Mind 6 (LoM) / Occult Slayer 5 (CW) / Annoited Knight 5 (BoED)

Feats by level
1 Wild Talent (XPH)
1 Iron Will
2 Weapon Focus (any)
3 Ancestral Relic (choose weapon with weapon focus)
4 Improved Initiative
6 Celestial Blood (Races of Faerun)
9 Outsider Wings (Races of Faerun)
12 Air Heritage (Planar Handbook)
15 Feat
18 Feat
18 Feat (from Annointed Knight)

Abilities
Darkvision 60ft
Acid, Cold and Electricity resistance 5
Can bypass AMF (ancestral weapon) at level 3
PR 5+character level by level 10 (also SR depending on transparency rules)
Saves vs Spells +1 at level 11, +2 at level 13 and +3 at level 15
Ability to Fly 30ft by level 9 and at 60ft at level 12
Spell Turning 1/day at level 12 and 2/day at level 14
Protected from Mind Influencing Effects at level 15
DR 3/- (annoint self) at level 16
Weapon hardness ^10 (annoint weapon) at level 17
Charisma +1 (annoint self) at level 19
Sentient Weapon with 2 lesser powers (annoint weapon) at level 20 (only possible if you added all ability scores gained from levels to Charisma).

Final Saves - Fort +14, Ref +4, Will +14
Additional Saves - +3 vs spells and spell like abilities

Thematically, it's like levelling up an angelic character complete with feathery wings and celestial race, which I like very much.

I'm quite taken in with the build and would like to explore her background. Assuming I start at level 6... anyone want to help me flesh out this pretty little Angel that becomes more beautiful with time (Cha +6 over 20 levels)?

:D

p.s. any suggestions to further optimize her would also be welcomed (even if this isn't the CO board, I'm sure everyone has some ideas on what to fill in for the last three feats).

Very cool idea.

Well, I imagine that, growing up, she would have always felt different from the other children. They may have flocked to her if she didn't have any particularly odd outsider features, and if not, then she would have been the leader of a gang of children, perhaps - loved by them, but always feeling a little out of place.

Then, just at puberty, she began to feel an itch at her shoulderblades - and over the course of a month or two, a few small, perfectly white feathers were sprouting from her shoulders. They stayed that way, just a few feathers, for many years, until the itch started to return, and a few more began to appear every year.

With the feathers came an increased desire to help people, to protect them, and so on so forth. Perhaps she was secretive, and ashamed of what was happening? Or, perhaps her father or mother drew her aside to talk about the family history?

[as an aside, I would get rid of occult slayer, but that's because I really dislike the class, thematically and mechanically. Also, you don't get the benefits of increased manifester or caster level w/sanctified mind unless you actually have a class that casts spells or manifests - maybe replace Occult Slayer with Psychic warrior levels, and switch the order around?]

I know I don't get the spellcasting progression - it was just an exercise at coming up with a non-spellcasting class that could fight and not be owned by spells.

From an optimizer's point of view, she would have been deadlier with other character classes (which I'm sure I could easily replace Fighter 4 with Paladin 4).

She's more like a character that will become an angel through her adventures (with self discovery and all that), much like how a Dragon Disciple allows you to become a half-dragon.

I always give a full progression chart to my DM so he can plan out pivotal points when stuff happens to my character (to make for more dramatic storytelling).

And I agree with you on Occult Slayer - but the abilities from that class were too good to give up. Well, I'll tinker with the build a bit more... no hurries since I'm still playing a campaign that's a year old now with our characters just reaching level 12.

Since no one else is contributing... I think I will cook up something and some of you can give me comments instead. :D

Tiatha Phayn never felt more spiteful and hateful in all her 16 years. It was only two weeks ago that she was still hanging out with the others, playing hide and seek and generally getting into all sorts of mischief that her mother Eshana would wholeheartedly disapprove of (if she knew, that is).

But Tiatha is not with the others. Alone and weary, she cries to herself even as she rubs the little feathery stubs that now protrudes from her back and recalled the events this past week.

The sudden appearance of those tiny feathery stubs was a painful experience, and Tiatha could do nothing but scream out in pain in full view of her friends.

Concern quickly turned to fear when her friends saw the feathery stubs. They left her lying there for hours for her mother to find.

Tiatha recovered from the pain after several concoctions were fed to her by her mother.

But no brew could cure the hurt she felt. The other children had been told to stay away from Tiatha despite Brother Markus' attempts to assure everyone that there was nothing wrong with Tiatha.

"She is a gift from the heavens," preached Markus, a faithful of Lathander. No one listened.

Her friends laughed at her when she tried to join them in their games again. The younger children were scurried away by their parents when she approached.

Now she is alone, unarmed, hungry and very lost... and it was all their fault! Tiatha ran deep into the forest to escape the hurtful words and acts. How stupid she felt. How gladly she would pay any price... if only for a taste of vengeance!

Or something like that... should I continue the story on this tangent and find some way of redeeming her? Seems like an overused plot though. :P

Comments welcomed. :)

Hrm. She could run into the forest, hurt and pained, and actually end up -staying- there for awhile. (That would be a good lead in to have her first level be Ranger, if you wanted)

Or, she could be the recipient of a vision, telling her that she is different, of divine ancestry, and that she's been chosen to be the Hand of [Insert LG or NG God [or Sune, if in Faerun]], which in turn leads to a good lead in for Paladin levels.

Or, if you wanted to go down the darker path, she could basically become a fallen angel - the torments of her peers scar her just enough to cause that seed of hate to bloom within her breast, and, over the course of her career, as she does more evil, the feathers (which continue to slowly grow in number, until finally, wings burst from her back) turn black - one feather per evil act. And then, instead of having the wings come painlessly, there is blood and pain...
