I'm currently playing a 3rd level cleric of Hanseath (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20040807a)named Horace Horklump. Hanseath is the Dwarven god of war, carousing, and alcohol.

Horace is days away from having his first set of dwarvencraft full plate made. He is going to seek the blessing of his god by anointing the armor with dwarfshead stout in a religious ceremony performed during the forging process.

My DM liked this idea so much he offered me a small mechanical bonus granted while wearing the armor if I write up a full description of the ceremony.

That's where you guys (hopefully) come in. I'm looking for ceremonial ideas and descriptions. And perhaps even ideas for the small mechanical bonus or magical reactions of the armor (example: how Sting glowed blue when orcs were about.)

If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Thanks!

The purpose of the ceremony is twofold. First, it is a symbol to Hanseath of devotion and a request for protection and power. Second, it is a celebration of Hanseath and of the completion of the anointed item. And like any good Dwarven celebration, that means getting drunk! The first step of the Anointing Ceremony is to acquire a barrel alcahol, the darker and stronger the better. It is thought that the quality of the beer is proportionate of the quality of the heart. Dwarves often spend great amounts of money and time in finding a proper alcahol for anointing.

Once you have it, the alcahol must be poured into a large basin (large enough to submerge the armor) and blessed. Though only one blessing from one dwarf is necessary, many choose to have a host of dwarves present. Afterall what's a party without drinking pals?

After the blessing process, you must declare your intention for the armor to Hanseath. With the final words of your declaration you must spill your own blood into the alcahol (though not too much, wouldn't want to ruin the beer). This is another symbol to Hanseath representing your loyalty and willingness to spill your blood in his name.

Next, the armor to be anointed is submerged in the alcahol while a final blessing is spoken. Once the blessing is completed, remove the armor and light fire to it. If Hanseath approves, the armor will catch flame but be caused no damage.

Finally, if Hanseath has given his blessing to you and your armor, the ceremonial alcahol must be consumed. Everyone present for the anointing must help drink the alcahol, and it is considered a great blasphemy to leave any of the beer untouched, so drink up!

As far as the bonus goes, I can't think of many right now. Many it allows for a healing spell to be maximized for free once per day or give you an additional +1 to AC if you have alcahol in your system.

Thanks, HP! You gave me some good ideas that I've combined with my own ideas. The ceremony goes on tonight so hopefully ol' Hanseath likes it. ;)
