Okay, first all, here's what I'm allowed to work with, remember, this is a pretty high-powered campaign.

(BOOKS)
PHB ; DMG ; MM1.2.3 ; FRCS
and FEATS ONLY from the Complete Series.

(RULES)
No items that boost ability scores allowed.
36,000 gp starting (lots for 5th level)
96 Point-Buy. 1for1, starting from 0. Only one stat can go over 18, and that stat may not exceed 22.
Characters must have a decent backstory.

Okay this character (nameless) is going to be a Fighter2/Sorcerer3, who much enjoys learning all he can about everything he can. He especially likes to research the mage Elminster, who is also of his faith. He kinds of models Elminster as a hero of sorts (which he is well suited for!). This character will probably be C.G. , but will have had a bit of going back-and-forth in his past, and because of his very clever decision to not burn any bridges, still has decent connections with a few...er questionable people and places (i.e. The Red Knives Guild). He also has a spellbook (I was thinking to give him the feat in FRCS that lets him prepare some spells as a wizard would (thus killing metamagic time restrictions...))

I'm trying to make the character into an image I have in my mind.. a young, eager-to learn mage, but who is also fairly practiced and knowledgeable, and very patient. He's cunning and smart, but very, very kind hearted when it comes down to it. Strength and Constitution will be his weak points, but what he can't do with his body, he makes up for with his mind and heart.

---So I'm looking for any suggestions I could add to this character at all. Plot, Story, Feats... anything to make him more into the image I am seeing. He loves Mystra with all his heart, and devotes all of his actions to his goddess.

What do you mean by He loves Mystra with all his heart? Is he in love physically with Her, or is he just a devoted believer?

Are you starting Sorcerer or Fighter? If Sorcerer, why do you take levels of fighter, especially if you have a low STR and CON? Do you plan to specialise in bow, or crossbow?

Do you plan to take the Eldritch Knight, or perhaps Spellsword PrC?

He loves Mystra with all his heart.. I.E : He is completely devoted to her as a diety.

Started with the levels in fighter. I'm not trying to optimize the character, merely make him good for roleplaying. He started out in a small town, and he learnt to fight before anything else.

He uses the Light Crossbow, and a Scimitar.

I'm not sure how I'm going to go as far as classes/prc's in the future. Probably mostly just Sorcerer, but it's hard to tell. I'm mainly looking for story ideas, or building ideas on how to represent what I see him as best.

Instead of taking levels of fighter, if you want to flesh out his learning a bit, take toughness and martial weapon prof. scimitar or something like that.

That way, you have him growing up in a ruggid area and learning a bit of martial prowess, but still retaining his magical abilites.

You may want to look into taking the spell casting prodigy feat. Put high scores into chr and int, probably more so into int.

You said he's eager to learn all he can and carries a spell book. Maybe his magical talent is innate, but his drive to learn more of his magical nature leads him to take levels in wizard, learning a more focused outlet for magical energies.

He could be a country bumpkin who travels to shadowdale to meet with his idol, to beg to be tought by the great wizard. what happens there could influence how he studies magic.

If he's turned down, maybe he takes level of rogue and looks into dark tomes of necromancy and illusion, to one day take down the man who spurned him. Or maybe the rejection causes him to take his studies that much more serious, to show Elminster that he is a good mage. or, if by some weird chance of fate, Elminster actually takes him in, he works himself to the bone to prove himself to the man he idolizes.

I'm kind of attached to the first two levels of fighter, because when he was younger, he had to fight for respect among other things, and he didn't know he had any magical talent. Then he started having some weird dreams, and woke up one day and looked around. He got quite angry with what he saw.. his house had been ransacked in his sleep. Things started shaking with his anger - prestidigitation maybe? - and that told him he should look into it. He met a fellow sorcerer, who taught him how to harness his innate power.

I doubt Elminster would ever take him as a pupil, but he probably will try. Not getting accepted wouldn't hurt him too bad - I mean, he does have some common sense. He will just try to always better himself, in hopes of one day becoming as powerful as the mage.

Instead of Fighter, he could have two levels of ranger, it would give him more skill points and would be good for a character from the Dales. Or perhaps start as a bard, they doesn't fight too bad. Or perhaps starting as a sorcerer with the regional feat Militia. You could also start as a rogue and become an Arcane Trickster...

Anyway, if he didn't know he had any magical power in the beginning, he wouldn't have worshipped Mystra at all. Perhaps Selune, Lathander or Tempus, they are more down-to-earth. My suggestion is he got some relic of Her (perhaps from Elminster), and his magical talents developped at this time.

Its a very long story that supports his levels. I've got to get some sleep at the moment (starting a new job in the morning) ; but I'll be sure to get it up sometime tomorrow.
