| Archmage_of_Blood01-10-07, 03:56 PM | I am soon going to start playing with a new group of players, mostly older siblings of my other group. The world is apparently a steam-punk style setting, set in a world where all existing land has been reduced to desert due to an unidentified "Calamity" 40 years previous. This leaves only sand and water left in the world, where pirates with skyships try to liberate the survivors from an oppresive empire of creatures who wear white, featureless masks at all times. Okay, now that I've explained that, my character is a human male (17 yrs) rogue with aspirations to become one of the fearless Sky Pirates in the future, and joins up with a rebel group of orphans (the rest of the party). My request: please help me figure out what has happened to him in the past. Oh, and a name. (Not Vaan please. I've heard that far too many times.) |
| BlackZed01-10-07, 04:59 PM | My name. Such a simple word, and such a simple thing, but something that has been denied to me for so long. The empire strangles all, allowing those like myself no claim to identity. What need has an oppressor to know those it oppresses? But I call myself Velnor. A small act of rebellion, to claim a name as my own. I grew up under their thumb, in a city with a number rather than a name deep in the heart of the empire. I had parents then, a mother and father that bowed their backs without thought. Those of the white masks had achieved true dominion here. Better than whips, better than beatings, than torture, they had instilled obedience so deeply into us that thought no longer raised any alternative. Our lives were obedience. I asked too many questions. A curious child, I began to see injustice that others ignored. In part, I know it was because my parents rarely had time for me, and so I wasn't as brainwashed into believing that obedience was the only way. I never knew what they did, or what their jobs were that they spent so little time with me. I was met with blank stares when I asked why I should follow their rules when those rules made no sense. I'm certain that these creatures are breeding us to ignorance and stupidity. In time it became clear that I was not the only one capable of such thoughts in this most obedient of cities, though whoever the culprit was, they were far more extreme than I would have ever taken my beliefs in the matter. People began to grow sick. Eventually it was determined that the water supply had been poisoned, but not before several had died. Innocents whose only sin had been to follow blindly. My family was tumbled into a mass grave for the victims, buried under the sand. I was left debilitated, weak and barely able to care for myself. Luckily I had made it to my teen years, and knew enough to keep myself alive. |

| BlackZed01-10-07, 06:16 PM | You're most welcome. I've always loved coming up with backgrounds. My very first character I wrote about 3 and a half pages of background story. :dancin: I may have a tendency to go a little overboard. hehehe. |
| Archmage_of_Blood01-10-07, 06:49 PM | I'm almost reluctant to play him, as to avoid not doing justice to the material.   Cookies for you.:cookie: :cookie: :cookie: |
| BlackZed01-10-07, 07:24 PM | mmmmm cookies. I like cookies. *munch* Aww, well thank you. :w00t: Piffle, use it. Let me know how it turns out, though, because it sounds like it'll be an interesting game. |
| Archmage_of_Blood01-10-07, 07:37 PM | You got it. First game on Friday. |
