Anybody ever try to play an Apostle of Peace? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I rolled a character to bring him into the Apostle of Peace PrC (we're level 5 right now) in case my sorcerer decides to die a very, very painful death in our campaign.

Anybody ever play one? Is it just too impossible to play this kind of peaceful character in groups that emphasize combat? Granted, I know I can still partake in combat, I'm just regulated to supporting my friends and calming the baddies.

Speaking of bad guys, if you did play an apostle, how'd you handle all those prisoners you took? (:

Manacles, drop off at the nearest town for charging. If it's amazingly difficult to get to a just judge, use Atonement.

Thanks. I bought a couple of manacles, I was just worrying over what I would do afterwards (:

I played in a game WITH an apostle of peace. I can tell you that it was the single most ANNOYING class to have in the party. Any use of lethal force is resisted by their abilities, and it ****** our barbarian and rangers off to no end. The barbarian because he had a blood oath sworn against goblins... he would actually knock them out and drag them bodily away from the apostle to slay them.

The ranger because he couldn't kill his favored enemy, which were Elves. (Roleplaying thing.)

The rest of the party just got tired of the guy's abilities interfering.

I think they make a great NPC, but can wreak havoc in a regular adventuring party. I feel you have to judge the temperament of the other players before you decide to play one. My experience is that members of the group that live for combat can become really annoyed when your character is doing everything in its power to stop or avoid it. The upside to the Apostle is that you become almost indestructible at high levels.

He'd be a good compliment to a Diplomonster.

I've successfully used an Apostle of Peace, its takes a bit of RP skill to get it to work properly, and your party should learn the saying "what he doesn't know won't hurt him".

Now this was in a campaign where the BBEG was a vampire lord with lots of vampire and other undead minions, which Apostle of Peace are free to kill, along with constructs. I used an accent like Apu from the Simpsons for this character, so the first time we meet a vampire, our Barbarian argues with him (this is in an inn), i try to break it up (without knowing the guy the barbarian argued with was a vampire), the party informs me he is a vampire. I paused for a moment, turned to the vampire and in full Apu accent "lets rock you undead son of a %$&#@".

That needs to go in the "Quote your Character" thread (if it isn't already).
