I’m not exactly sure where to put this post as it will include most, if not all of the aspects of a character. I am currently making a new character due to the unexpected death of my dwarf wizard. I would really like to create a new character that has some ideas that are spawned from a brain not my own, as right now my own thoughts are not cooperating with me.

Goal of Thread:

The idea behind this thread is to see what ideas or twists (nothing sick please) other people can suggest in the making of a character, probably a wizard. That is ideas from background, to ideas for stats, to odd personality quirks, gear, ect, must anything is helpful. The character is to be a role-playing first character, then a roll playing character.

There is a good chance that I could end up playing another character of a different class as well, so I would encourage people with ideas as to other classes to post there ideas.

When this post appears to be dieing out I will probubly comepile the info into one character and post his/her info here.

Rules/Guidelines:

The character will be level 4, and the gear available to him/her would include +2 bracers of armor and around 3000 gp to spend on additional gear (a little much for a 4th level character I know, however the dm is very liberal with treasure). Were using the third edition Forgotten Realms Campaign setting (really annoying because I found out right after I bought all the 3.5 books) due to the dms lack of funding, although he might allow feats/magic items ect. from 3.5. There is not to much concern as to being a major party spell caster as we have another wizard non multiclass wizard in the group that plans to go the whole 9 yards as a wizard. This kind of opens up the possibility for multiclassing, although by no means is this to be some min/max character.

The books I have available to me currently are:
Players handbook 3.0+3.5
Dungeon Masters Guide 3.0+3.5
Monster Manuel 3.0+3.5
Song and Silence
Tome and Blood
Complete Warrior
Unearthed Arcana

I also have access to all other 3.0/3.5 books as other group members have most of them.

Thanks for all the help in advance (sorry if the post is a little jumbled)

Perhaps he was cast out of his local Mage U because of some sort of mishap where he accidentally summoned a minor demon, who then ran amuck.

Quirk: Fear of dark due to said events. Constantly replaces random words with the name of the demon, Fav`ro; doesn't notice it.
Personality: Cowardly. Try's to change the subject at any mention of the extraplanar, even an oath like "By the Pearly Heavens!"
Possessions: carries several sunrods at all times.

What's the party like? We already know there's another full-fledged wizard, but that's about it. Knowing what your party needs would help a lot with multiclassing options.

I like to create characters based on the god their worship. Take Ghaunador, for instance. The patron of oozes and slimes and jellies. You could play a half-drow wizard who worships him. He'd be an outcast, he'd smell bad and he'd be drawn into the campaign unwillingly. Say he's seeking a relic, something his clouded mind has identified as a holy artifact. Kinda like the Fisher King (the 80's movie).

Spells like amorphous form, acid glob (?) and such would fit him well flavour-wise.

But I've mentioned this pseudo-concept before, so let me suggest another one.

So you want to play a caster, huh? Hmm.. how about a misguided fool who believes he's the Chosen of Azuth, aka The Magister? He's paranoid because he thinks others are out to get him. He eyes other casters suspiciously.

At the same time, he's conflicted: he wishes to abide by his god's will, and teach the use of magic, but he fears one of his student will one day take his place. So he picks the most unlikely students, those he feels will never achieve great sucesses in their mastery of the Art. He reaches for the masses, but imparts little knowledge into each "student".. ie Quantity over Quality. Basically, he goes from town to town and teaches cantrips to the poor, in exchange for some food and lodging. He figures he's safe with the downtrodden, because no Chosen of Azuth would live in such miserable conditions.

Quirks might include:

- never taking the straight path to his target (both literaly and figuratively speaking); he quickly learns to navigate the mazes of back alleys in those towns he visits, and he avoids the avenues at all costs. He formulates his querries in such a way as to make others reveal information about themselves, possibly malicious intent.

- extreme paranoia, which he dismisses with (nervous) laughter when confronted about it. ("That comment about you possibly being a spy? Oh, that was just a joke. Ha ha ha. A verbal prank.")

- excessive use of abjuration spells. He makes liberate use of protective spells. For instance, upon entering combat with a trio of Orcs, he might cast Spell Turning on the first round of combat. If confronted on the matter, he claims one can never be too cautious.

- makes cryptic allusions to some people having been "chosen", or being born for a greater fate, then snickers to himself. Tries to look unconspicuous if spotted. He doesn't want to be hunted out/found out by other casters, but at the same time, keeping this glorious honour to himself is too much of a burden for him, and he wishes a "clever" companion would discover the truth.

Anyway, there's an idea. If you want more information on the Magister, I believe he's discussed a bit in Magic of Faerūn.

Forget it. I have a few new ideas. This thread was dieing anyway.

Nedlum, LiXinjian, thanks for your ideas. My character is drawing aspects from them both.
