This is kind of like a diary-style description of my Grey-Elf Wizard character. The first part is just explaining my family/friends and involvement in an arcane college in the city. The second part is explaining why I start to go adventuring. Anyway, here goes:

My name is Arahel Korlisim from the Rilynrae house. I live in the city of Kethdul (Windglade: approx. 5,000 residents) with my family. My family is highly involved in the Elven military and hold a high social status among the Elven community. We are Grey Elves. My ancestors settled in Kethdul centuries ago. A famous ancestor in our family (Solis Rilynrae: a commander in the Elven military) contributed greatly to win a major war against the Drow hundreds of years ago.

My family is well-known both from my ancestor and our involvement in the military. My parents Jazair and Tydretae both are serving as a swordmaster and combat medic, respectively. My older brother, Eiraer Maiemarthier, serves as an archer. All three are considered the best of the best in their fields. My younger sister and brother: Keranisri and Amaith are starting their training. Keranisri shows potential as a swordmaster like our father and Amaith is showing interest in the divine magics like our mother.

I don't have many friends, but the ones I do have are very close to me. Ro'caldrimhel and Kyraee Vilikitas are brother and sister. Ro'cal is always getting into trouble and also likes cooking. Kyraee works at her father's herb shop and aspires to be a physician. I've been infatuated with her since I could remember but I don't know if she returns those feelings. My other friend, Aelimil Killemitore is a practitioner of the arcane arts like me and attended the Arcane college to learn as I did. We were the most talented in our class with him admittingly besting me in most areas.

Aelimil is like a brother to me and we share many interests and I secretly look up to him and hope to be as great as he is. In school, one of my classmates began to dislike Aelimil and I for some reason. He struggled mastering spells and didn't seem like the studious type so maybe he was jealous of our talent? I don't see him anymore so it is of no matter to me. After some training, I plan to join a military organization that puts my arcane prowess to good use.

(After some time, he writes this entry)

Aelimil left the city about a year ago without a word from him and no one knows where he has gone. He is a great wizard so I am sure nothing happened to him, but I miss him still. After all, I have to show him what I have learned since he left. For the next few months, I will travel before I fully devote my time to serving the military. I told my family and friends that this was just a way to take a break from my studies, but the real purpose of this venture is to find my best friend. I'll travel first to the smaller villages in the region then make my way to this larger city where I have a hunch I'll find something...

This is my first fleshed-out character background for any DnD campaign so please give me some criticism and advice for making my character more interesting. Thanks! =)

My current plan for his advancement is this:

Wizard 5 / Incantrix 10 / Archmage 3 / Geometer 2

He'll be a little bit older than 125 years which is the normal age for an elf to go adventuring.

He has pale golden hair and violet eyes, has a somewhat serious personality but can be more outgoing when he wants to be. (I'm just going to go along and see how I let my character act and build on that as I play).

If you need any more info, ask me and I'll provide. =)

I agree with JamesC... just take the '1' 0ff the elf's age and youve got my opinion....

As if the elves would waste 100 years or so doin nothing.... there just as likely to start adventuring at 20yrs old as a human is....

Thats my optinion anyway...

Well, rulebooks say that Elves mature around 25 years of age, but don't go adventuring until they are around 125 years old.

Elves don't know what "wasted time" is. They live so long, they take their time doing everything and 100 years is a good time for them to learn various crafts and arts.

Either one works. An elf at 25 is just as capable of adventuring as one at 125. Its all a matter of when they decide its time for them to go or when they are forced to start. Many elves (and members of other races) never adventure so take into account that being an adventurer makes you an exception to most rules. Of course that doesn't require you to break them either.

As far as the background goes its fairly well written though I'm not sure why he's commenting in that entry on an old rival. Presumably this is plot related? Otherwise it should be from an older entry or have something have occurred recently to bring it up.

Last I'd want to know why you chose to leave the comfort of mystic towers and arcane colleges for the life of adventure. I would guess it has to do with your old friend having gone missing for several years now but you don't seem worried enough for that to be a sole cause.
