Arcane Familiars [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-28-05, 05:11 PM Im looking for any information thats officially published on familiars besides whats in the phb/mm and forgotten realms book. Im looking for alternate familiars to pick from in a campaign were just starting in a homebrewed world. Ill be starting at level 4 and just want to have more choice available to me for flavor and something to show the DM.

04-28-05, 05:41 PM Complete Warrior has the Guardian familiars, there's three types of 'em. Basically they are familiars that can also fight a bit, and they are constructs.

Libris Mortis has the Stitched Flesh familiar, which is an undead version of the normal familiar kinds out there.

Both of these familiars have to be created by their masters. The Guardian familiar is built almost like a magic item, requiring Craft Construct and the Stitched Flesh one I believe requires Animate Dead.

Edit: If you have a nice DM you could, of course, also create your own familiars... basing them on already existing ones so they're balanced.

04-28-05, 11:46 PM There's something on construct familiars in Unearthed Arcana.

Planar Handbook has outsider type familiars.

Draconomicon allows you Dragon familiars (young dragons only).

That's all I can remember at the top of my head... (books at home).

05-09-05, 04:07 PM Ooooh ill have to check that out, i wonder if theres a polar bear...i want a polar bear for him now. Anyone have any ideas on how to get a polar bear for a familiar? the unearthed arcana lets wizard/sorcs get animal companion instead of familiars but they couldnt get a polar bear til level 16 :\ and thats a long ways down the line :P of course i can see why it is too, kinda be nuts having a full grown polar bear at like level 4 or 5.
